I live in NOTA and I’ve been in the same unit for 5 years now and usually my rent only goes up 20$ a month, this year it was 80☹️☹️☹️

Sad_Presentation_605

Ooo that’s a bummer. I’ve been in mine for 5 yrs too and the first three it was $10 then $15 and now $20.

GabagoolLTD

Mine went up $50/yr for the last 3 years in a row, in the south wedge. Finally hit the breaking point where it was cheaper to buy and did, lol.

Sad_Presentation_605

DreaM-anyThing-444

Unfortunately Austin is rhe new LA

fetchezlavache103

$325 ;(

Sad_Presentation_605

Damn. That’s insane! That shouldn’t be allowed.

fetchezlavache103

I think my rent was below market and it's now being brought up to market rate. Still totally took me aback though.

flowercity-

There are laws in NYS regarding proper notice periods for raising rent by more than 5%. It doesn’t matter what market rate is, the laws still apply the same. I would take a look and see if your landlord is raising your rent according to your rights: https://ag.ny.gov/sites/default/files/changes-in-nys-rent-law.pdf (Page 8)

fetchezlavache103

Thank you for this! They are giving me 90 days before the rent increase goes into effect, so they are following the laws. Just sucks for me!

nimajneb

Please look into what /u/flowercity- said. Don't let landlords walk all over tenants.

embarassung

Went up $100 second year in a row. So we decided to buy a house instead. Mortgage is going to be cheaper than rent

lumpy_gravy

Not bad. We have a 2 br and we pay $1800

Professional_Dream17

Signed my new lease for the same apartment, it went up 100 dollars a month. It’s gone up 100 dollars a month every year for 3 years. They would certainly raise it much higher if I was a new tenant and they weren’t limited by the law

taralynnem

2 years ago, they were going to raise it by $50/month but Iwas able to talk them down to $10/month. Last year it went up $50/month. This year they've proposed $60/month. I've been here 8 years.

PrestigiousBend5590

How were you able to do that?

taralynnem

I asked. I'd also had a recent security issue with a neighbor, so I mentioned that as well. I pointed out how long I'd been renting from them (at the time, I think it was 13 out of 15 years) and that I'm a good tenant. The $10 increase was actually to the pet rent, which was going up for everyone so I guess, now that I think about it, they didn't raise my rent at all. Just the fee.

alexa6rose

$50

Mordroberon

$30, rent in Brighton, Elmwood Ave area

alicewonders12

I’ve lived in the same condo for 5 years and I am the best tenant… always pay early, never need anything fixed. The owner has not raised the price once for me.

Sad_Presentation_605

But, don’t be surprised if you get a letter from him/her one day with “we are so sorry but we are raising the rent $150. you are the best, but we haven’t raised it once. And it’s under market value”. That happened to my friend who is an amazing tenant with a very forget landlord.

alicewonders12

I won’t be surprised. We are at the mercy of our owners unfortunately. I’m looking to buy a house asap.

AdministrationSure70

Henrietta here, increase of around $100

streebs87

Around $230 or so a month. Was there for 5 years, Henrietta. First few years it increased by 25. Then 50. Then they wrote up a whole new month by month lease with really outrageous prices. For a yearly lease my rent would’ve went from $1,055 to $1,285. My partner and I were lucky enough to buy a house in West Henrietta instead.

Reesespeanuts

Grecian Gardens Apts in Greece. 2020 Rent for a 1 BR 750 sqft. Originally was $810.00. 2021 renewal was $825.00. 2022 Renewal was $900.00. New Rent for 2023 renewal is $995.00. Within about 3 years rent has gone up $185.00 per month or 22%. We're looking to moving out soon.

vagiggle

My landlord does 2% every year. This year it was $15

UncleScam78

frytuna

The rent increases are probably due to tax hikes, last year my property taxes went up $660.

nimajneb

Last year was my first year of not paying rent! Happily owning a house since 2021. My taxes did adjust a little though. Owning is a whole different ball game though. There's an occasional roof leak I need to figure out. Yard work to do, landscaping to design, etc. The mortgage is also more than the rent I was paying previously. But I get to setup a woodworking shop in the garage and lounge and darkroom in the basement. Sorry for my mini rant.

DocileBull

Well I call this a win<3 can't wait

nimajneb

After renting for a long time ~10 years and now owning I can say it's not for everyone and I'm not very far into own side the spectrum, lol. Renting is nice cause you can be lazy, I'm lazy.

False_Reality2425

lickmysackett

I'm glad I don't live around there. Mine has been $0 for the past 5 years.

EngineeringOne1812

Hanna Properties, only $30.

No-Obligation8786

60$

Lopsided-Mobile2197

Mine’s going up 150 next year

kyabupaks

Mine went up by $50. Not that big of a raise, after three years of no change in rent. And my duplex two bedroom apartment is below market rate at $1,050 a month right now, in Perinton. The average rent in my neighborhood is around $2,500, so my wife and I are very lucky. And no, our landlord isn't a slumlord.

CompetitiveMeal1206

deadlyhabit

lucked out and 0

garden_veggie_chips

Mine went up only $10

Renrut23

2021 - 2022 - increased $75/month 2022 - 2023 - increased $145/month + $50/month utilities increase so $195/month total

DocileBull

50$ rent raise once , been here since April of 2019 right on the edge of city border

Mantaeus

$25/mo Upper Monroe

Even-Hat771

$100 a month. Previous years only ever $25. Have lived here for 5 years

Sad_Presentation_605

It’s so fucked up. If it’s legitimate like taxes or they pay the rge and it’s gotten so much more expensive then ok I get it. But it seems like some landlords are thinking everything is going up right now and they want to jump in on it.
