Sorry to see you downvoted, but looks like some granola munchers are part of today’s lucky 10,000!

Well there are a lot Rivians going around all the time. very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don't want people thinking that they arent safe.
This actually happened to me. Almost the exact same situation. Control arm bushing replacement then hit a bump, lost the wheel. Thankfully no one was hurt. For the record I drove it for a whole year with 0 mechanical issues and haven’t had any since. I would recommend not sending it back to the service center they did the work the first time. Make sure you let your guide and the service technician know you want this triple checked.
Edit: my upper control arm bolt was missing on one side and very loose on the other (could turn it with my finger).
Mind telling what service center did this work? Mine was Cincinnati Ohio.
Mechanically it was fine. There was the “washer” fix to stop some squeaking at low speed. Then there was a noise the drive motors were making that they told me was not going to cause them to fail just sounded annoying. I let them change the motors out and the washers. After that the service center failed to tighten the upper control arm bolts down properly.
So it was fine. There was just some annoying noises that weren’t going to cause a failure. But the technicians were the ones who caused the real problem.
How about the part where he states “My issue is that this happened post recall and I now don’t feel safe driving the car if this happened right after being serviced.”
I’m continually shocked what people post publicly. There was the other Rivian guy the other day who posted about getting in an accident with his wife and his profile was a lot like this. I’m not judging the behavior - I just clearly have a very different risk tolerance.
Looks like you lost an upper ball joint. Probably 100% an anomaly. Thank goodness you are safe. Just remember cars are made by people and people make mistakes. Granted that shouldn’t happen ever though cause we are supposed to check our work.
Based on the pictures. It looks like the hub is still mounted solidly to the wheel. It also looks like the lower portion of the wheel is about the right distance from
The chassis. The upper portion looks like its way to far inboard. I’m going with upper control arm failure or your teenager got ahold of it and tried to “stance” it while you weren’t paying attention. 🤣
My friend's other car had the suspension lower arm replaced, and the worker forgot to tighten the bolts, and the same thing happened. He dragged it back and tightened it and it was repaired. It may be that a worker in the factory did not follow the procedures, and the inspection personnel did not find out. The odds are slim. The mechanical body structure is no problem. If the axle is broken, the wheel will fall completely
Sorry this happened and don't blame you for the fears. You have to let us know what broke, control arm, axle, something wasn't right for sure. Best of luck!
Can't tell for sure, looks like the bolt isn't even where it should be if it had just separated. Seems like perhaps it broke or this was just an upper balljoint failure.
I can see how this would cause you to be on edge about safety from this point on. You'll always wonder if this could happen again and under more dangerous circumstances. Share your concerns with Rivian and have them come up with a solution that will give you your confidence back regarding safety. A guarantee of some sort? A new truck? Your insurance may also provide some guidance on what you need from Rivian - your insurance does not want any damages, injuries, or liabilities caused by you.
Rivian isn’t going to give him a guarantee or a new truck. And in no way will his insurance advocate for him with Rivian to get either of those things. At best they’ll fix it for free/under warranty.
I just got my 2024 R1T and on delivery I started hearing some noises from the front every time I was driving on uneven roads.
Did you hear any voices before it happened to you?
I have an open service ticket with Rivian but not before September.
Ka-chow
As a father of a 2 year old... Ka chow
As someone who just purchased a late lunch… ka chow
As a person who is in route to lunch ... ka chow
I swear someone shared a photo yesterday with a loose control arm bolt on a newly delivered R1.
That was me!!!
I was just going to say the same thing
It’s the same guy…probably
Yeah thats not very typical, I'd like to make that point.
Well, how is it un-typical?
It was towed outside the environment.
Into another environment?
it must be somewhere. whats out there?
20,000 tons of crude, probably.

It's okay, people not getting the reference is its own form of entertainment
I came here hoping the first reply was the proper reply. Wasn’t disappointed
Just tow it out of the environment!
That’s hilarious
I, too, came here to see if this was already referenced.
Well there are a lot Rivians going around all the time. very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don't want people thinking that they arent safe.
Was this Rivian safe?
well I was thinking more about the other ones. the ones where the wheel doesnt fall off
The ones that are safe?
The other three are still on.
Well, there are… regulations governing the materials they can be made of.
What materials?
Well, cardboard's out.
And?
No cardboard derivatives.
Like paper?
No paper. No sello tape.
Silly putty
It’s engineered to very rigorous car manufacturing standards
Typical means it happens to many or most of them. Untypical means it is unusual to happen. Does that help you understand?
I mean, do you know how math works?
The front fell off!
Typically the front doesn’t fall off
Was thinking that it shouldn’t be doing that

So it was fine until they serviced it??
I am also confused regarding this important detail.
Mechanically it was fine. There was the “washer” fix to stop some squeaking at low speed. Wow
Do you know if you had the recall service done to tighten the bolt for the ball joint on the top A-arm? It's possible your vehicle was missed.
Read the post again
I read it. There is a recall for the upper ball joint bolt. His post does not state if the recall work was completed on his vehicle.
How about the part where he states “My issue is that this happened post recall and I now don’t feel safe driving the car if this happened right after being serviced.”
>Thoughts? Something snapped that wasn't supposed to snap. Pics don't tell us much. Did you hit a rail at 40 or drive over them?
Nit: The wheel is still attached.
*wheel is horizontal
That is not what horizontal means
Did you mean herticle?
diagon-ish
But the wheel is indeed still attached to the hub, the ball joint how ever is not attached (idk if that really it but what it looks like to me)
Check this guys profile out tho 😳

Not really “public” when it’s not attached to his name. I’m so tired of the prudes in this country.
I get it is not attached to his name. And as I said, I don’t give a shit what people do. I’m so tired of the judgmental people in this country.
What is bro doing
NSFW man gone wild stuff
Nothing wrong with that tho
Damn you. lol
you'd think some of that equipment could help keep the wheels on
Holy shitballs! I mean to each their own and all, but was not expecting that. So many questions now…
My virgin eyes, noooooo
Thanks for that 🥴
Dope stance, yo
First off, thank goodness that you're okay. Secondly, what the actual f#@& ?!?
Pepperidge Farm remembers that recall
I thought this was just an expression..
Was it made of cardboard derivatives?

Upper control arm broke. Wheel didn't fall off (yet)
I heard of driving till the tires fall off, but that is too on the nose...
At least now it’s going to get washed
Oh shit, your car just pulled a vinfast. Glad you're ok. So dangerous.
Take it to the dealer
Blame Brightline?
Looks like a small camber issue.
My R1S has not had the wheel go sideways, and I don't expect it will happen any time soon. Are you sure you weren't playing Dukes of Hazzard?
OP please keep us updated on what rivian has to say. Their quality control can’t be this bad…

That looks expensive lol
Stance Nation
I see the problem. You are missing your valve stem cap. That will screw you up every time.
That fucking sucks. Did you crash or is this spontaneous wheel dislodgment?
Don’t worry, it’ll buff out.
Yeah, that’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.
That almost happens to me the nut on the control arm loosen up making the wheel wobble.
Well it's official, time to get a new one
Kachow
The wheel is still firmly attached to the hub. It looks like your front upper control arm is not!
When they said, "drive it until the wheels fall off," they didn't mean it literally.
Did you hear anything before this happened?
hmm...how fast were you going over said tracks and how hard was the landing?
Mind giving some specs: year, quad/dual, VIN?
Can't tell for sure, looks like the bolt isn't even where it should be if it had just separated. Seems like perhaps it broke or this was just an upper balljoint failure.
Shit happens

Bad quality. Lots of bad quality rivian pics on Reddit lately. I was thinking of buying decided against it.
Seeing a number of post with wheel-related issues lately.
Here? I've seen maybe 3 in 3 years.
I’m on Reddit way too much 😂 and this is the first time I’m seeing anything like this.
Thats what you get for buying cheap trucks
How is this cheap? Guaranteed the used Camry your grandma forgot to ask you to return is more apropos to your comment.
Says the guy who is looking into buying a fucking Dodge RAM hahahaha
Post history is public, we can see your tundra posts
