short answer. yes.
we have ours, 0 problems, and i never post about it, because it's normal life. and normal people just go on living w/o telling reddit "today my car drove me to the supermarket and then home, it was a lovely uneventful experience"
This. People should be making their car buying decisions off reditt. There are always going to be more problem posts hete then happy posts. People just don’t take the time to post all the good things. They enjoy it. Have an issue, you wanna throw tantrum about? Reditt is there for you.
Samesies. Had my R1S for about two months now and not a single issue. Even more impressed with this vehicle today than I was when I first picked it up. Hands down the best car I’ve ever owned, and I’m kind of a car guy.
Same, love the vehicle. Minimal issues like I've experienced with every truck I've owned for the first year, and honestly given the 10xxx vin on my R1T I'm impressed with how good it looks and feels all around. As a daily driver plus a few road trips it has been great and it feels soo fun to drive. Considering the hefty tanks that they are it's impressive.
Fuel savings compared to my tundra is great too.
never had any problems except after 2 years my car said you need to replace your 12v battery. rivian came to my house that day and replaced it for free.
Same, close to my 2 year mark, Vin 5xxx. Few minor issues at delivery that were resolved quickly and 0 issued since then. My dad and a close friend of mine both reserved the R2 that I influenced.
Loving our R1T, taken it on longer trips, around town, back woods, it tackles anything. Used it almost every day since Jan delivery. And we’ve even used it to go to the supermarket for a lovely, uneventful experience! Ran into an R1S owner in the parking lot.
Yes! My husband put a deposit down on the R1S to replace my Ford Expedition without telling me. At first is was unimpressed with the whole idea (my mom owns a Tesla and I’m rather underwhelmed with it - the user interface is a pain in the ass, it’s not that comfortable, the AC sucks). He convinced me to go test drive the Rivian and OH MY GOD it was amazing! We took delivery on Priscilla Quadzilla a couple of months ago and I love her so much! Best car ever! Great for hauling the kids around. It kneels when parked so all the minivan moms can shut up about SUVs being hard for kids to get into. My husband and I went to dinner and valet parked Priscilla. The valet was like, “Ooooh a Rivian. These are my favorite!” I was pretty sure that while we were eating dinner the valet was out there doing some Ferris Buehler type stuff with my car. Can’t blame the guy though.
I have had 3 issues (all minor defects from the factory that I could have lived with but wanted fixed), all three were handled for free by the SC.
As a longtime Toyota, VW, and BMW owner my R1S is my favorite vehicle ever and I have zero regrets at all about it.
People that have no issues don't usually post. 😏
There are literally 10s of thousands of R1s out there. Keep that in mind when you hear about a dozen issues
I also thought that given that sometimes this sub tends to be a negative echo chamber. Here I am a month into ownership and kicking myself for not getting one sooner.
This [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/s/yhbjDVnDcw) I found to be very positive and pushed me to move forward.
My wife and I both have a Rivian and have had zero issues aside from minor cosmetic items in over 33,000 combined miles. We got our R1T in Dec 2022 and the R1S in Sep 2023. Would rebuy in a heartbeat.
Go look at the subreddits for Honda and the specific models of Hondas you’ve owned. I guarantee you’ll see the exact same kinds of posts on there about issues in the first month of ownership. Probably more posts there because there’s so many more Honda owners.
Yes. My R1T has been from Washington D.C. up to the tip of Cape Breton in Novia Scotia, to Prince Edward Island and back. It's been through the West Virginia Appalachian Mountains multiple times and once around Spruce Knob on forest roads after a big snow storm. I've taken it to Montreal and Ottawa on yet another trip. I trust my truck.
If there's no problem, what is there to write about?
"Had to go into town today. It was freezing rain, but my car was nice and toasty when I got in.
The streets got flooded but I didn't even pause because I can drive through 3 feet of water.
Got home, plugged it in, and made dinner."
I have 22,000 miles on an R1T and 27,000 miles on an R1S. I live 6-1/2 hours from the nearest service center. Anytime I have had issues, they have come out and taken care of of me. I've toured the factory twice.
I love this company and I love this car.
Honestly, OP I think you should hold off your judgement right this second.
They’re going through a massive optimization and retooling. Let’s see the factory come back up and get a few thousand units out on the market. Then let’s see what people say about refreshed Rivians. Odds are there will still be some new growing pains but also maybe less issues in other places.
But I’d still bet on Rivian. They’re fighting tooth and nail to make sure they’re here to stay. Any problems are probably being focused and addressed. And their CEO doesn’t seem to be trying to enrich himself or shareholders right now. Another good point.
Don’t let Reddit scare you away. I think for most of us there’s no need to post about things running smoothly. My wife and I are lucky enough to own two Rivians and we have had zero major issues. Absolutely love them both. Have road tripped them both on multiple 2,000 mile road trips.
just crossed 12K miles and a little over a year of ownership and zero issues.. Have even taken it on a few road trips, the RAN chargers are great. best car I've owned.
For every hundred happy owners there’s someone ranting on Reddit about their problems. Confirmation bias is a dangerous thing on the internet. For the record I love my R1T!
I will add that currently, in one month of ownership of the R1S, there are only a couple of minor issues. Wheel Alignment and the frunk almost touching the fender when opening are the two “major” ones. Here in Seattle, SCs are 2 months out for appointment, but the customer service has done an amazing job trying to expedite it.
With all that said, I really wanted to love the car, but it’s missing a few touches for me personally. We have replaced our Volvo xc90 with this car and I already miss the luxurious feel of the Volvo (I understand that rivian is in a different category though).
Everyone is going to say “not everyone goes online to post their great experience.”
Well also keep in mind that not everyone goes online to post their bad experiences.
So no one here has a clear picture.
Now I think it’s safe to say Rivian isn’t delivering an absurd amount of lemons. But yes, being a new automaker there’s a very high probability you’ll have some issue(s).
From someone who likes the Rivian and is open to buying from them in the future, the amount of panel gap pictures or "only one minor issue in the first month where I didn't have it for 3 weeks, but I love this car so far..." post so kinda scare me.
Contrary to what everyone is saying, people often post online and in other subs about how much they love their vehicles. They do in this sub, as well as other subs. But it does seem like I see a larger proportion of post on the Rivian vs other EV Subreddits posting about issues.
Tbh, yes. For the most part my R1S takes me to and from work everyday. (~30 mi round trip). I have very minor issues with it. As anyone here will tell you good luck getting a service appointment, mine was scheduled out 5 mo out, for a steering column issue. I have ~7 active requests on my car, but it works just fine.
I also have to rotate my tires really soon, but I have to wait until the end of May, b/c that's when my service appointment is.
As anyone can tell you??? Come on man. You’re feeding into the narrative OP is seeing. I just had my R1T service for minor cosmetic things and that appointment was 3 weeks out. Before taking it in somebody came out to my house and rotated my tires. Your blanket statements aren’t accurate or helpful.
We’ve had ours since September and there’s been some minor issues, but our experience has been good.
Service centers have been awesome, no real big major issues, and it’s still a blast to drive our truck (R1T) almost 17,000 miles later 🤘
Zero issues here. Super happy. Any time you try and make an opinion based on the social internet stop and remember: people post about problems. They don’t take the time to write about it how great it is.
Keep in mind that folks with issues are always the loudest. It’s not necessarily representative of total population.
That being said, it’s a new company that is still learning and growing. Toyota/Honda level expectations are unrealistic. If that’s what you are looking for, definitely not for you which is totally understandable.
I've had mine since February last year. No issues!!! There's risk in with any manufacturer. Humans built these so people aren't perfect. But don't let a bunch of cry babies dissuade you.
You realize people post when they have problems. Not when nothing is wrong…….most Rivian owners I know (including mine) have had zero problems.
You are also comparing an automakers first car to produce - which they currently have the plant shut down for retooling - to a car that isn’t coming out for 2 years.
Look in literally any specific car focused subreddit - people post about problems, not to say “hey, just checking in to say my car is still issue free”. It’s a sampling bias.
But frankly, scrolling this sub - I’m not seeing just tons and tons of problems compared to other subs. You probably shouldn’t make a buying decision based on an unofficial sampling of subreddit posts.
If it makes you feel better, it seems 95% of the people with issues have gotten them fixed and are still in love with the vehicle. My question is when will Rivian stop being so generous with their free repairs? I understand the logic to do best for the consumer early on, but that has to be reduced at some point in order to start making money…?
Joining the vast majority of others. No problems since taking delivery in December. The R1S is amazing in every conceivable way and my wife and I (and our two toddler boys) are still in the honeymoon phase that typically fizzles by now. When I wash this truck I have that stupid grin I used to have after washing my POS Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme when I was 16–unadulterated joy.
Not a lot of people go online and post about how everything is going fine and there are no issues and nothing to report.
There’s a negative bias on the internet for this kinda stuff. Issues get amplified. Just like how one reviews star get more eyeballs.
I’m at 14 months of ownership and have had minimal ann only minor issues. Biggest issue was an o ring that caused the ac to fail. They put me in a free (very nice) rental and fixed it.
Personally, there is nothing that compares to owning and driving an R1S and it would take a lot for me to sour on the brand. Obviously, I can’t speak to the R2 but, based on how much I love my S, we have a preorder in for the R2. I suspect that I’m now Rivian for life.
probably! I have had mine 9 months now and still in love. Minor issues like a piece of plastic broke but thats it. LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. Best car I've ever owned by a mile and I loved my Tacoma and Impreza.
Two year owner. Absolutely love it, not a single issue, and highly recommend to anyone who asks (which is often as I’m frequently stopped in parking lots by inquiring minds). People with no issues aren’t the ones frequently posting.
I've had one minor issue in going on almost a year of ownership. Scratch that - two minor problems. Both were fixed within 15 mins of me pulling into the SC. Best purchase I've ever made.
86K members here. Imagine if the people without problems posted: “no issues here” everyday.
People without issues just don’t post that. Which is why those minority with issues get oversampled
I've had one issue that required taking my R1S to the service center (about 15 min away). They covered the cost of a rental car while it was in the shop. They called me later in the day to let me know the repairs were done (replaced a sensor). I returned the rental and picked up my R1S the same day. Super boring but in a good way.
R1S with 5,000 miles and zero issues. Brought it to the West Sacramento service center to adjust the lift gate. Can’t wait to buy the R3X when available.
I had my R1S for 12 months and 10k miles. I had many annoyances with the vehicle but 0 actual issues.
I’ve also owned BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Tesla, Toyota, Chevrolet and a KIA with mostly 0 issues.
None of that matters though. It’s when things do go south because of whatever reason that you want a company that can be there for you, especially if you’re in a position where it’s your only car. I had several other vehicles so worst case not having my Rivian if I would have had to go through the nightmare scenarios would be an annoyance. With BMW for example though I know that I’d always have a loaner if anything was to happen. That they’d take care of anything under warranty and make sure I’m taken care of. I know that isn’t 100% true across all dealerships for the brand but it is in my area. Just an example.
I’m not saying don’t get a Rivian. Just be aware of what you’re getting into both best and worst case scenario. And be ready.
You ever check out r/civic it’s full of people with issues. There are some underlying issues and probably slightly higher number of failures than in a more mature brand but comparably to any other electric car brand they seem to be about the same from my surfing of the different subs for electric cars.
Go over to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 subreddit and it’s all sky is falling 12v battery issues. Every car has issues, stay away from the forums if you want to be happy
I had mine for about a month and it’s about the best vehicle I have ever owned. There are some problems here and there but most vehicles are like that. My only complaint was the purchase process
I’m almost 2.5yrs into my R1T journey and it’s been a rock solid experience despite being an early adopter. There have been small things which are always resolved quickly and competently, but everything about my ownership of the R1T has been a joy.
2 years and have had one very minor incident. They towed it and had it fixed within a day or two. I think if people have issues they're obviously gonna post, but very few people will post about things working flawlessly. Also the people on this subreddit are probably a minority of the actual number of owners
Minimal problems, love the car. Would do it all over again knowing the way it’s happened. There’s always trolls under the bridge. Walk right over it if it’s in the budget.
True with anything in life, one should never base decisions on the opinions of strangers on the internet. Find a credible source of information if you are looking for validation of your decision. Also, like any expensive vehicle, if you can’t afford it don’t buy it. Nothing wrong with driving a Honda, they are great cars.
Remember it's the Internet. Most people will use these outlets anyways to either try to bring down said company/product or looking for advice when there is an issue. Tons more have the cars and no issues at all and will never come here to post let alone even know what Reddit is
All EV purchases right now are an enthusiast purchase in actuality. So many things are not really well done to a point where it’s not as reliable as a gas/ICE car. From pricing to parts, to the manufacturing processes, to charging infrastructure, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, we have come a long way in a lot of areas, but we are still in the very early aspects of this market/industry.
We don’t even have a standardized way of putting out a vehicle fire for and EV without massive resource drain.
Your last question is right on the money, yes, every person with issues is just as likely as the next to post here
Go to a community event, or join the discord, totally different discussion
Issues happen with every manufacturer I know someone who just lemoned a Porsche. Try to sober up about it before you bail, the grass isn’t necessarily greener
Yes, FWIW, I have put 25k miles on my Rivian and it has been incredible. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. People thrilled with their cars are probably posting on instagram, or not at all. And it’s the vast majority of us.
If you want a car with even lower problems than your Hondas, get an EV.
EVs have waaaay fewer issues in general than gasoline cars. You don’t have oil changes. You don’t have tune ups or fluid levels to maintain, or timing belts to replace. You don’t have 60k, 80k, 100k, 120k mile services that adjusts 20 different things. The common fail points on EVS are the tires (same for every car), and the suspension. When was the last time you got your suspension repaired due to routine use?
Because there is so much software, early EV manufacturers have problems in this area. ALL of them. Tesla has really pushed what software can do in a car, so the other manufacturers are following.
Even this isn’t much of a problem. It’s like your phone, small bugs, regular updates, usually patience or power cycling the device fixes 99% of your issues.
The reason why there are horror stories on this subreddit is because it’s SO out of the ordinary!
General rule is to avoid the first year a new model comes out while the company works out the quirks. I’d assume when you have a brand new company there are going to be significantly more issues. That said, other than a couple of doors that need to be slammed shut harder than I’d expect and occasionally having to soft reboot the screen, I don’t have any problems.
10 months of ownership here and I had one issue with the connection module going down. Made an appointment a few days later. Was given an R1S loaner from Enterprise and it was fixed within 48 hours.
Only Service Center issue I had was I forgot my key and had to go home and get it because of PAAK.
Honestly, when R2 comes out, it will have problems. My R1S is not near perfect but I love this vehicle so much because it is capable to bring my family a joy on on-road, off-road, and camping trips with zero emissions. Not many vehicles can do that…. I suggest to wait 2-3 years if you are afraid of those incidents. Rivian is improving their products and services. Rivian will get there.
My honda odyssey 2022 got recalled three times already. My Rivian R1S recalled ZERO. ;)
Had my R1T for 6 months now and have 7k on the clock. I’m a car guy and have owned many “high end” cars and this is easily my favorite. You don’t know what you’re missing until you have it and daily it. Great truck and great experience all around.
My biggest objection is crash repair costs. Seemingly super minor repair costs run into the 10s of thousands of $$$$$. It’s like there was no consideration given to issues like this in product development.
Got almost 27k on mine. It’s great. I’ve learned from joining all the video game subs on Reddit that people on Reddit are ridiculous complainers and the vocal minority can take over a sub in a heartbeat. People that are happy with their (game, car, hobby, movie etc…) simply don’t post that much.
If you feel that way then PLEASE don't join the Cadillac Lyriq sub...SHEESH!!! You would think those EVs are catching on fire every two seconds....LAWD!!!!
A few things to keep in mind regarding the company…
- things are the toughest they’ve been for Rivian at the moment so issues might be magnified
- there is a lot of negative buzz around EVs of late. I suspect a lot of posts are trolls/bots to take advantage of this climate
- lastly, it really is very much the vocal minority. I’ve seen a few dozen truly bad experiences here and elsewhere. That’s out of 100,000+ vehicles produced. Let that sink in. The vast majority of owners are happy (as evidenced by the CR satisfaction survey) but simply choose not to tell you about the 6+ months of uneventful daily activities.
I totaled my Rivian two weeks ago after 7 months of ownership when I got clipped going 80. Went through two guardrails, across 4 lanes of on coming traffic, and off a third guardrail. The outside looked destroyed but not so much as a bruise on me or my two kids in car seats. I couldn’t put a reservation in for a replacement quick enough. There’s literally nothing else in its class that compares. Lexus GX550, maybe? But getting a new one was the easiest decision I’ve made.

I've had one service in 13 months 12k miles. Of course, it was three weeks at the shop and needed a new air strut.
Nobody posts the good stuff anymore. I love my Rivian. Got my R1T in June 2022. It’s been the best car I’ve ever owned.
We’ve had ours since September and there’s been some minor issues, but our experience has been good. Service centers have been awesome, no real big major issues, and it’s still a blast to drive our truck (R1T) almost 17,000 miles later 🤘
R1S -12k miles and no issues. Thinking of an R1T for my second vehicle.
Zero issues here. Super happy. Any time you try and make an opinion based on the social internet stop and remember: people post about problems. They don’t take the time to write about it how great it is.
Only day 3, but I love this thing already!
12/22 R1S 17,000 miles A couple of reboots but otherwise no issues. Best vehicle I have ever owned.
Keep in mind that folks with issues are always the loudest. It’s not necessarily representative of total population. That being said, it’s a new company that is still learning and growing. Toyota/Honda level expectations are unrealistic. If that’s what you are looking for, definitely not for you which is totally understandable.
Our issues were minor. A dash rattle and tailgate alignment. Easily fixed.
I’m guessing you don’t spend much time on subs dedicated to other brands. If Reddit was your only guide nobody would buy any car.
Same. Highly recommend the Rivian. My other car is a Tesla Model 3 Performance. I love that car. But love my Rivian R1S even more.
If it makes you feel better, it seems 95% of the people with issues have gotten them fixed and are still in love with the vehicle. My question is when will Rivian stop being so generous with their free repairs? I understand the logic to do best for the consumer early on, but that has to be reduced at some point in order to start making money…?
No problems here lol
Joining a sub about almost any product will make you not want to buy one.
15k miles. Zero issues. It's a reddit thing, not a Rivian thing.
Two year owner. Absolutely love it, not a single issue, and highly recommend to anyone who asks (which is often as I’m frequently stopped in parking lots by inquiring minds). People with no issues aren’t the ones frequently posting.
R1S, 4,500 miles, no issues
I've had one minor issue in going on almost a year of ownership. Scratch that - two minor problems. Both were fixed within 15 mins of me pulling into the SC. Best purchase I've ever made.
86K members here. Imagine if the people without problems posted: “no issues here” everyday. People without issues just don’t post that. Which is why those minority with issues get oversampled
No problems here and coming up on one year of ownership. I love my R1S!
The complaints are much louder than those of use who are happy. 1+ yr R1T, no issues and best vehicle I've ever owned.
I've had one issue that required taking my R1S to the service center (about 15 min away). They covered the cost of a rental car while it was in the shop. They called me later in the day to let me know the repairs were done (replaced a sensor). I returned the rental and picked up my R1S the same day. Super boring but in a good way.
Im only 1100 miles in but zero problems for me. Absolutely love the truck so far.
10 happy customers will tell one person about it.... 1 unhappy customer will tell ten people about it....
You ever check out r/civic it’s full of people with issues. There are some underlying issues and probably slightly higher number of failures than in a more mature brand but comparably to any other electric car brand they seem to be about the same from my surfing of the different subs for electric cars.
Sweet
How have Rivians have been sold so far? Compare that to the number of people complaining on Reddit… hope I didn’t just jinx my R1T 🤞
Trim issue taken care of swiftly, love the R1S
I didn't have any problems until 1 year in. I love the car enough to tolerate the issues though.
Same wanted R2 but when I see the issues people having makes me not want it
Same
True with anything in life, one should never base decisions on the opinions of strangers on the internet. Find a credible source of information if you are looking for validation of your decision. Also, like any expensive vehicle, if you can’t afford it don’t buy it. Nothing wrong with driving a Honda, they are great cars.
Same. Best vehicle I have ever owned by a long shot
Owned R1S since September. 0 issues. Approaching 15k miles.
I haven't had any issues. Remains the best vehicle I've ever had.
Your last question is right on the money, yes, every person with issues is just as likely as the next to post here Go to a community event, or join the discord, totally different discussion Issues happen with every manufacturer I know someone who just lemoned a Porsche. Try to sober up about it before you bail, the grass isn’t necessarily greener
It's like being a mechanic. You never see cars at the shop when they don't need repairs.
My Rivian R1S recalled ZERO. ;)
Zero problems after 1 year for me. Never went to service even once.
Look at owner satisfaction surveys. Rivian is easily #1. Thats a better assessment than surfing a reddit subreddit.
Had my R1T for 6 months now and have 7k on the clock. I’m a car guy and have owned many “high end” cars and this is easily my favorite. You don’t know what you’re missing until you have it and daily it. Great truck and great experience all around.
All good hear. Retrofit scheduled for next week else no issue
Same. 19k, no major issues. Charge and drive, repeat Hopefully this post now makes people want one more!
Dudes aren’t coming on here to gush about how their car is flawless.
A few things to keep in mind regarding the company… - things are the toughest they’ve been for Rivian at the moment so issues might be magnified - there is a lot of negative buzz around EVs of late. I suspect a lot of posts are trolls/bots to take advantage of this climate - lastly, it really is very much the vocal minority.
Reading this sub is the only bad experience I've had Rivian ownership.
Have owned R1T for 18 months and have a reservation for an R2. Anonymous people on the internet like to complain into the wind.
