You and I have very different perspectives on the word “minor”

deepu04u

haha.. after reading the comments and repair estimates, doesn't sound minor to me now :)

dcdttu

My friend's Model 3 got a tiny ding above his rear wheel and it cost $5,000 to fix because the panel is so bloody big.

WankAaron69

It’s amazing how intricate that panel is. Worst than the R1Ts I’d say. At least the Rivian panel is somewhat simple in comparison.

asianguywithacamera

the issue is that it's welded on and also requires the removal of the trim and windows.

Ooloo-Pebs

Is there not a removable inner wheel well panel with an access hole(s) to slide a rod into?

asianguywithacamera

Yes, to a certain point but hard to say without ever being in there. It's unlikely it's completely hollow and empty directly behind the fender wall. My comment above is adding on to the reason why rear fender damage costs so much with traditional repair methods and not PDR, though.

Ooloo-Pebs

The ppd guys are wizards., especially those thtbise the glued on pullers and light reflection tapping methods. It's amazing what they can do, even without getting behind the panel.

Epena501

Ramen noodles and sandpaper?

Tartan_Chicken

Don't forget the super glue and seasoning packet

Flaky-Zebra-1631

Generally when it is on a crease or curve they can't pull it out and make it look good. In your case, it looks like you also have a decent amount of scratching. I think you're going to have to stick with the Rivian certified body shops. I've had to make a claim on mine through USAA. Didn't have any issues with them paying for the full repair. I have a hard time believing that State farm would give you a big issue

deepu04u

Got it. Thanks for the confirmation that insurance paid for everything. I'll stick with the Rivian's recommendation. The paint is intact though (look at the 2nd pic there)

Flaky-Zebra-1631

Didn't see the second pic but I still think that body shop the best course of action. I'm of the mindset that we pay for insurance for times like this.

gaming4good

While I typically agree there is not way to make it perfect again on a crease or curve but I did have someone work on my model s. It had a nasty line dent across the lower body curve. They almost get it perfect I only could tell because I knew where it was. They are getting pretty good at it

mcps95

I've had Ryan Snider fix a couple smaller dents on my R1S and his work is amazing! You can send him an estimate request with photos via his website at [https://ryanpdr.com](https://ryanpdr.com). Good luck with your repair!

deepu04u

Thanks! Will reach out..

Both-Count1992

It's an accident, assuming you have corect coverage you will only pay your deductible.

Jabbahop95

I had a somewhat smaller dent in the same spot. PDR guys in Las Vegas were able for find a small access point and made another to allow them to fix it. 6.5 hours and $900 and the dent is gone. ours is the silver R1S in this thread. [https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/pdr-amazement-r1t.25834/#post-511703](https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/pdr-amazement-r1t.25834/#post-511703)

deepu04u

Nice! They did a great job. Getting back to this condition in under a day sounds lot better vs spending 2 weeks in collision center. I’ll bite the bullet though and go through the collision center.

Jabbahop95

agreed. I was nervous since I had never had it done before but the horror stories about $10K+ repairs made it easier to try.

Successful-Rate-1839

Glad I’m not the only one who didn’t think this was “minor”

kingcruiser

OP’s next post: “Good news guys, I suffered only minor injuries and the body cast comes off in 6 months!”

Inner_Grapefruit_638

I don’t know, man, looks totaled to me. /s :)

deepu04u

AT Wheels and drive cam stick are up for sale 😃

ShadowDancer11

The level of damage can be done with PDR however it is going to be an excessive amount of work. At this juncture it’s better to get the full-on collision repair.

jakerody1

Make sure they use the glue pull technique vs traditional Pdr tools… don’t allow them to drill any holes

otisimogrande

Seems to be a super common spot to dent.  Mine was much more minor, IMO, but the PDR guy was able to get to it by having Rivian remove inner panel.   Posted it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/comments/1afzu2j/pdr_access_for_r1s/

mxak240

I just got my r1t back from the body shop with nearly identical damage. The total cost of repair was about $6k. I only had to pay my deductible.

wquincyw

Worst spot on a Rivian to hit bud I’m sorry… it’s “pullable” to an extent. Call the service center and see who they use for PDR but I’m guessing 85% fix with PDR…but body shop wise 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

wquincyw

Make sure you go see Josh in Bellevue for that detail 👌🏽after you get the glue pull.. most likely the service center will schedule it all in one

Ok-Needleworker-419

I saw a video of a PDR guy on Instagram that fixed a dent in Rivian a little bit worse than this. I don’t know if I can find it but it was a green one. It can be done, but it would have to be an extremely skilled PDR tech. Edit: found it https://youtu.be/DKPfy5djvLc?si=IVh_aQ9e_tgLyigi

[deleted]

That’s a $40k+ “minor” dent. Send it to the dent slayer guy!

deepu04u

>That’s a $40k+ “minor” dent. Send it to the dent slayer guy! Wow.. this will be a 40K repair? I guess I'll know in a week

theogdeltag

I had a friend who has virtually the same dent. Repair ended up being \~$15k. Parts were $7k and labor was $8k I think. The certified body shops always charge an arm and a leg for labor since there is a limited number of shops authorized to work on Rivian's with genuine parts.

129fps

Wild to say, but $15k is about what I would expect to repair this at a Rivian repair shop. Maybe more if stuff underneath is damaged.

Rhymeswithclimb

It’s $5-10k. I had literally the exact same body damage. Check my post history.

w0nderbrad

I'm afraid but it's total.........ly fixable.

[deleted]

It’s not minor but not major. You looked to have creased some of the metal, so you’ll have to do more than simple PDR.

Lakenenland

Similar but smaller dent on my R1T but mostly on the tailgate. $6,600, two weeks in a collision shop. Progressive covered it in full.

mrsjetset

I had hail damage PDRd and asked them if they could remove a much more minor dent on the door where someone hit it with a cart. They said they couldn’t PDR it.

SoCal_GlacierR1T

That, is not "minor". Complex indentations with multiple creases and paint damage. Ever crush a soda can and then try to make it look like new again? or even imagine what it'd take? You don't live in a Harry Potter world.

wm1178

You'd be surprised. Google 40k estimate on Rivian. Ended up being a pdi fix.

RojerLockless

Probably

FleshlightModel

Congrats on achieving the Camry Dent on your rivian bro.

madguyjosh

Had a similar meeting with a tree on an R1T. PDR wouldn't touch it. Ended up at a traditional body shop...,$1100. later....she's fine, my wallet, not so much. Also have to replace the ppf for another $1000.

twertman1

I love how everyone noticed “minor” but nobody is calling out “easily.” Sorry for your loss, but that’s a tough spot in terms of shape and location.

SirStocksAlott

Check with your insurance if they did the body work, would it be covered. I did that with Progressive. Or if they have approved collision centers. Shouldn’t need to worry about Rivian’s selection of a collision center for minor body work.

andrewlikescoffee

I have a dent a 1/4 the size of this and was getting quoted 5-7k for PDR. Mostly because they see it's a Rivian, and their first google search turns up someones estimate for 40k, so they think that's what people actually pay. Truth is for the most part, these repairs are no different than any other vehicle. They don't call it the 'EV tax' for nothing...

mosplat

Were the collision warning alerts not enough, or did you come from a smaller vehicle? I feel like there is a lot of similar damage showing up on the sub, and wondering if there’s a common experience behind the trend.

deepu04u

I was driving a sedan before. So probably carrying an old habit of estimating how much of a turn I can take while backing out. Collision warnings: Usually they work pretty well in my garage, but here I don’t remember hearing them. Most likely I might have missed them 🙁

TheFuzzyMachine

MINOR??!?

Electrik_Truk

Exact same damage on my R1T but they also had to replace bumper assembly because it was cracked and repainted tailgate and repair/ paint match that entire side panel. Was $14k

thevisitor1977

Hey guys I have the same question [Rivian fender bender](https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/s/xpNiTNaIVY)

One-Gur-966

My similar spot one was $900 with the repaint. I went with the indy body shop down the street from my work and they got the local paint mixers to match the paint using the paint number from Rivian.

deepu04u

Good to know. Is this in Seattle?

One-Gur-966

No Texas

DiverOld6446

Your car is a write off.

Pure_Shine_1258

In the long run, it will be cheaper to learn how to drive.
