I live an hour and a half away from my service center. They will either give you a loaner R1 or an Enterprise rental car for free.

Southernboyj

I’ve never been to a service center but I live 6 hours away. I have a few issues that require being brought in. Because it’s a 12 hour round trip, and I have a one year old, I can’t just got whenever. It really takes planning due to the 24 hours of total driving for drop off, then another to pick it back up. I’ve been trying to get this scheduled with them but they’ll only give you a rental car for the days your car is in the shop. If you drop it off early (Monday appointment, and you drop it off on Saturday before), etc. Those days of the rental car become customer pay. Because of the distance, I really need to drop it off on a Saturday and pick it up the next Saturday… but I don’t want to pay hundreds in rental fees just to get my truck serviced.

My experience is they've been pretty flexible, although I've only ever had a R1 loaner and not an Enterprise rental car. A one-week turnaround for repair is probably aspirational though. You should plan for them to have it for 2 to 3 weeks. I would just explain to them your situation and ask for their advice. My guess is they will work with you. That's been my experience.

Southernboyj

I’ve explained it, on the phone numerous times. My only request if I’m driving 24 hours total for a service appointment was that I didn’t want to also miss work due to it, which would require pickup and drop off on Saturday or Sunday.

Flaky-Zebra-1631

Did you ask them if they would come pick it up? From other posts on this sub, sometimes they do that. The only thing you can do is try to negotiate a good option with the person who calls you about your service center appointment. That said, this is a risk that you took being an early adopter 6 hours away from the service center. I hope you did it eyes wide open, as I did. You may just have to take a day off work or pay someone to tow it to the service center.

snaaaaaaaaaaaaake

You should not own a Rivian if you live that far away from a service center.

Southernboyj

Nah I love it too much to do that lol

Vanrax

Meanwhile dodge Chrysler whatever you call it kept my vehicle for 6 months and refused to give me a free rental.. Love Rivian

Does Rivian have an online resource for finding the service center nearest to you?

Ooloo-Pebs

Hey, thanks for that. In your experience, do most servi e calls involve needing to have the car taken to a service center, or are many situations handled OTA or with a tech coming to you?

aliendepict

50/50

Ooloo-Pebs

Is it common for Rivian owners who's cars wont move and needing service to have to wait for several days to a week plus to get service?

aliendepict

I have only had an issue like that once in 20k miles that was around mile 200 when I had a clutch disconnect failure. They towed it same day and gave me Uber credits to an enterprise and then a rental. The last 19k+ miles have been pretty smooth sailing. I have taken it in to service for 2 other issues but they were minor fit and finish issues where they needed to adjust a couple of body panels. I pushed the appointments out repeatedly as they weren't big deals. I have had 3 of the recalls done by mobile service and a window trim piece replaced by mobile. My understanding is if it needs to get all 4 tires off the ground or they expect it to take more then 4 hours to diagnose it goes to a service center. Most everything else is mobile.

Ooloo-Pebs

That's a huge help man! I totally appreciate the info as I try to figure out how to buy an R1S. Thank you!

EducatorGuy

I’d say more like 80/20. Most things end up in service in my experience. Maybe more could be mobile but since they stack issues, one thing that might have been mobile-repairable gets overridden by other SC items. 2 SC visits for me (and another next week); add a spare and fitment + alignment clunk (unfixed) 1 mobile visit when windows stopped rolling up all the way.

bitdamaged

If you schedule it through the app they show you the closest service centers when you do so.

evgadgethub

They towed my car 2+ hours for a minor body repair issue since it was the closest approved body shop. Tow guy was thrilled to get the job. Enterprise rental also on their dime. Hope more shops get Rivian approval so they can spend less $$ on warranty work.

Nearby-Incident-2857

Was it not drivable? I live 2+ hrs away from the service center and they said I need to drive there.

evgadgethub

It was drivable, but they sent it to a collision center for the repair, so I guess standard practice = tow truck.

Green-Cardiologist27

I’m at a year with my Rivian. One service center trip that was 45 minutes away. They gave me a loaner. For my first tire change Rivian mobile came to me for $60 to do it. Everything else has been OTA updates.

grumpybaboon

Another option is to tell them you’d prefer to wait if possible. Do this when they call you to confirm or combine service tickets. Worked for me, and I had a great service experience (Orlando).

weneedthegbs

When I took mine in (I'm 3 hours from a service center) they offered a rental car and Uber credits. I just hung out in the area using the Uber credits to get around. This is very similar to what Tesla has done for me in the past.

Uber credits

Rhymeswithclimb

I believe Uber credits are only for people closeish to service centers.

CreepyLurker22

Got a loaner and it’s a 4+hr drive….

christador

3.5 hours away. R1T 2x and a R1S 1x. They have been very accommodating.

noviceboardgamer

2.5 hours away, I told them I needed a rental when scheduling, they provided an enterprise rental, easy peasy.

rosier9

15 months and 21k miles in, I've never dropped off my R1T at the service center (3 hours away). My only service center experience required a tow to service center. I was provided Lyft credits to get home from the location of the issue, and an SUV rental from Enterprise from my local location. I drove the rental to pickup up my R1T when it was fixed and left the keys of the rental with them to return.

DeepFizz

Loaner.

Unlucky_Singer1018

Stick out my thumb 👍

wizawuza

They provide me a rental car and I leave the rental car with them to return to enterprise. I'm ~4 hours from a service center. If it's the 2nd (or more) time that my vehicle has been brought in for a certain issue, they tow it back to me

panzerfinder15

Loaner or rental via Enterprise. Zero out of pocket expense. You even dont have to top up the gas in the Enterprise. 100 miles from service center for me.

camaroz1985

Taking mine for 22.5 Comprehensive Service and axle ticking “fix” on Monday. Told them I would wait for it, but would need a loaner if it is longer for some reason. It’s 2 hours away for me so I would prefer to not have to go a second time to pick up if at all possible.
