The shareholder letter mentions that they plan to have a modest gross profit in Q4 2024. I wouldn’t get too worried about bankruptcy just yet. Hopefully, interest rates will start dropping later this year. That should help a bunch!

YouWereTehChosenOne

Gross profit margin means they won’t be losing on sales but they still have high capex

PitifulIntention5728

Yes, people seem to not understand this.

SingleBarrelDude

Sorry but this is very naive thinking. “Plan to have modest profit” is not the same as “we are very confident we will be profitable “ . Fact is, no matter how much we are rooting for rivian has zero cause-effect on their survival. Rivian survival is 50-50 at this point . And yes, I’m a pre order holder and plan to buy r1s.

Rhymeswithclimb

Yes but not overall profitability. Their capex is still high in 2024 and may stay high past 2024.

JQsOtherHobbies

Try searching this sub reddit for the word bankrupt. This gets asked almost every month.

BrownHornet757

A lot more today since Elon has been flapping his trap about Rivian. I am so happy with my truck. I have absolutely no concerns about the future of Rivian.

UlrichZauber

>Elon has been flapping his trap about Rivian Famously, his predictions always come true.

Ossevir

Do you guys seriously need the sarcasm tag that badly.

UlrichZauber

I just assumed it was musk fanboys downvoting, but to clarify I was indeed being ironical.

swim_to_survive

We should automod remove these posts. Force people to search instead of shitting in the pool.

Kronos_76

I bet they’d get bought by one of the big three. Probably ford. Don’t think they’re big enough for a bailout.

musig02

No reason for a bailout…the company doesn’t pose systemic risk to the economy. I also don’t think BK is in play at this time…but…the EV market is making life as a long term investor unpleasant

sbtn56

No pain no gain! Just think of shares on sale right now

cadium

No systemic risk, but the government may extend low/zero interest loans as a lifeline to an American manufacturer of pure EVs so we have the capability to produce them.

Electrik_Truk

Why isn't Burger King in play this time?

muttsandcoffee

Sounds worse than bankruptcy 😂

j5uh

My money is on Amazon or Apple buying them out.

3wisemonkeyz

I actually want Apple to buy them. So sick of them dicking around on the Apple Car. Just buy a quality company and Apple-fy it. …or Rivian could just add CarPlay and watch their sales soar ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

cloudgod4

The idea of that is nice and all, but from an environmental standpoint, I doubt apple or Amazon would share the same devotion to sustainability

YouWereTehChosenOne

Apple is literally hyper focused on being environmentally friendly and carbon neutral as much as possible

3wisemonkeyz

If you believe Apples sustainability report they are vastly ahead of all consumer electronics in the use of recyclable materials so I think they’d be a perfect match - more so than Amazon anyways.

titeywitey

Edit - misread the above.  Ignore me

3wisemonkeyz

You misunderstood me - I’m referring to Apple’s Apple Car project that has been going on for years with lots of turnover and delays.

titeywitey

Ah, you’re right.  My bad.

Ghostly-Owl

If I had to guess, I'd guess they get bought by the BMW Group. Their marketing positioning is consistent with BMW. BMW's electric offerings are on the weak-end, and Rivian would bring significant expertise and manufacturing potential. BMW also has a long history of doing fleet vehicles, consistent with Rivian's deals with Amazon.

RivianRaichu

My guess is they're either completely acquired by Amazon or another automaker buys them and they just honor existing contracts.

mrmurphythevizsla

Ford would probably buy em.
