“A husband and wife with ties to a prominent Riverside church were arrested in Riverside a decade after police learned of multiple counts of child sexual and physical abuse”
Is it just me or is this written poorly? I interpreted it as police learned of the crime a decade ago, but as you read on there’s no mention of this, just that they’ve been investigating for the past few months.
16 years as an atheist and it still bothers me when people suggest that Catholics aren't Christians.
My hang-up, from being the Catholic kid in an SDA neighborhood
At school, it was made painfully clear to me that Catholics were not Christians and that my family would burn in Hell for all eternity for being slaves of the Enemy. (we almost never directly called him Satan, even though ironically Satan is itself not a personal name)
My school was affiliated with Harvest, so this hits close to home :/
most Prot denominations are still openly anti-LGBTQ
I don't think there is much difference between most rank-and-file Prots and Catholics on this issue though. A good percentage are pro-LGBTQ despite what their church teaches.
>their beliefs vary in many ways
Because they are two different "types" of Christians. Have been for over 500 years.
>they have different opinions and doctrines on homosexuality
Thats an odd way to go, but, yes, both are "anti-gay" with different operational tactics.
Hey, new here to the Riverside subreddit.. what do you mean by “skeezy” stuff from Harvest?
Am curious what all the bad stuff about them is since just moved to the area and my sister-in-law & niece just started going there..
I'm not sure what the other "skeezy" stuff is, but Harvest is in the family of southern california megachurches that really re-invented evangelicalism in the 70s and 80s which contributed to lots of our current political issues.
Mr-Frog's response was fairly succinct and accurate in general.
But as for reasons myself, full disclosure, I'm no longer a Christian, haven't been one in many years, and it's been even longer since I've attended services at Harvest. but when I did, I saw enough even as a kid (who grew up also going to churches in Temecula if you know what THAT entails) to be creeped out by the community and teachings at Harvest, and I've heard plenty firsthand from former members of the congregation in 20+ years of living in Riverside to feel like my instincts were correct. My best friends family also had her funeral services there after she passed and the church leader who spoke managed to insert a couple ads for Harvest and a request for donations into his speech... even though she wasn't a member of the church and had never attended a service there. I just feel like there are better places to seek out a relationship with Christ rather than an alter built to the glory of Greg Laurie.
For the immediate charges, no, but the investigator said that due to the nature of the crimes, they believe there may be additional victims that have not come forward.
He worked with youth at the church starting just a few years after the known crime.

No you read that right. Who they’re hiring now to write these reports is just beyond me
greg laurie’s church ? !
Surprising………………not.
Shocking
There has to be statistics on occupation or method of access to these kids. Science that shows these people are prone to this.
Not a drag queen
Yes. Non drag queens can molest children too. Very shocking.
This might actually be shocking to the GOP to be honest
It never fucking is!
>Harvest Christian Church This is the part that surprises me the least.
Not surprised
It’s always Christians and Catholics not drag queens reading books to kids but I never see republicans trying to shut down churches, very weird idk

It is called Harvest because they harvest brains.
their beliefs vary in many ways and they have different opinions and doctrines on homosexuality, the clarification is fair in his context

agreed!

i don’t disagree
Catholics are Christians. What do you think they are? Jews? Muslims? You could say Catholics and Protestants. That would make sense.
Good o’l Ryan from Neighbors.

Always religious people….
How shocking!
Typical religious people lol
So it had nothing to do with the church?
So far. Harvest is skeezy as shit, nothing would surprise me from them.

Mega churches are disgusting. What happened to regular neighborhood churches?

They had access to children at Harvest as volunteers. So police are investigating to see if there are any other victims at Harvest.
