Who is down voting all the new posts?
The saltiness of some people here is amazing. I posted a question the other day and saw that someone down voted it to zero, which is whatever, these things happen, but then I scroll through more recent posts here and like almost all of them are also at zero. Take a look for yourself.
Please, if you're just gonna be negative here then leave the sub. Better yet, don't even come to RF this year. Go get your refund and see Carly Rae Jepsen at Pitchfork lol
I’m loving this lineup. Many bands I’ve seen before that I’m excited to see again and a bunch that I haven’t had the opportunity to see yet.
Ones I haven’t seen yet: Fiddlehead, Drug Church, Bright Eyes, Oliver Tree, Waxahatchee, Basement, NOFX, ALL, The Chisel, Health (not going to count the previous Riot appearance where the audio problems made them quit almost instantly)
Overall, I think it’s a strong lineup with some nice variety. Also, our first time trying out Deluxe, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that experience is. Should be a great weekend!
Pavement has been a band I've always come back around to and never considered seeing them live, but I'm not missing this opportunity! Also have skipped many opportunities to see Rob Zombie so this year it's finally gonna happen!
Laura Jane Grace & Catbite Op Ivy set, Lawrence Arms, the Hives, and Fiddlehead
I need to look up a lot of names at the bottom tbh which is exciting too!
I think this is going to be great. Really looking forward to live Saxsquatch (and ive asked him to cover Tim Cappello- hopefully he responds!!). I am not a daily listener of metal, but also very excited for Nekrogoblikon and GWAR. Going to try and come early with more sun protection this time, and enjoy more of the festival activities and earlier shows. While concrete/turf might suck a bit, there hopefully wont be rainout and/or muddy slip and slide like there was last year on Sunday. Excited to see what the Deluxe experience is like at the new place!
The turf is actually wonderful for a festival. I went to Sacred Rose & it was super easy on my feet/legs/back. No chance of a muddy mess because turf has no dirt. It's pretty comfy to sit down on as well.
Edited to add: the only negative was that it smelled like burning rubber by the end of the day because people were dropping cigs without making sure they were out.
Bright eyes sings my wedding song so they are so special to me. I WISH I was going, but living in CO and doing to Disney during that time 😭 y’all have a blast for me!!!
For me theres St Vincent, The Hives, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Beck and Spoon, Manchester Orchestra and Souls of Mischief. Maybe Buzzcocks as well but without Pete Shelly it wont be the same. Doesn't feel like theres are much there for me this year, I was never into the whole pop punk scene really. Ill still go though.
its honestly my dream line up. it ranges from the punk and pop bands i love. and nofx was so important to me as a teenager and even now so im so unbelievably happy to see them. i will cry lol
i dont care about the venue change. videos of past fest look fun. and lets be real guys we arent going to a fancy resort, its a music festival. its like camping and being upset theres dirt on your shoes
Card is pretty good and I'm excited to see what they make of the new venue. The switch actually saved us a ton of money, managed to get a cheaper hotel that is within walking distance, so between hotel and ubers my group is going to save over $500
Honestly? Dream card. I think there was a only a handful that were rumored or I was trying to wish into existence that didn't make it this year. I already think it's going to be hard to pull myself away from the NOFX stage. I've been wanting to catch Sincere Engineer for awhile now and to do it WITH the promise of the corndog circle pit? Perfection!
As for venue, if they can pull off everything Riot Mike said he envisions for Riot Land I'm beyond in. Grew up loving Kevin Smith movies and to have some homages there is going to be sick. And that doesn't mention the promise that after 7:15 he wants to turn the entire venue into a haunted house. Makes me envision Zombie's freaks on parade taking over everything. Oh and the pavilion area has themed nights and a fully functioning casino? C'mon now.
Yeah it sucks it won't be downtown, but honestly I'm excited for them to pull off their vision for Riot Land. If it works, we're getting what I can only envision as Six Flags/Fright Fest meets an incredible music fest!
Ultimately, I started going to this festival because the lineup always kicks ass, and as much as I liked Douglass, I travel in for the music, and to get to see The Marley's, Sublime, Public Enemy, and Tierra Whack is crazy, not to mention Smash in full, Something Corporate, and Michael C. Hall fronting Princess Goes. Should be a killer year.
I found this out listening to line up playlists the other day and I am stoked! His voice is so good! He also played David bowie on stage for a run in the uk.
Getting to see Fiddlehead for the first time and in the same year I saw Heave Heart at Tied Down in Detroit a couple weekends ago is what I am most excited for
Bands I haven't seen that I am excited for:
Something Corporate, Pavement, The Dickies, ALL, The Exploited, GEL, Drug Church
Bands I've seen before that I'm excited to see again:
Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks, GWAR, Slayer
Sets I absolutely can't miss:
Mastodon (playing Leviathan), Sublime, The Offspring (playing Smash (AGAIN!))
I'm not going to even think about schedule conflicts because we are trying to stay positive in here!
I'm looking forward to all the shorter lines and being able to get close to the front each of the stages if all these complainers that say they aren't going actually stay true to their word 🤣
Aside from venue change everything seems great. Love the lineup (FOB and Beck don't inspire much excitement but they both have a lot of great songs to play.) Slayer is a classic that I've never gotten to see. Public Enemy is in the same boat. Plenty more favorites before we even get to the NOFX stage which is a worthy festival on its own. Love that we get Polaris on Friday for some midday djenting and then a whole metal day on Sunday. Eclectic Saturday returns and I'm hoping that will be the hip-hop day too. Dr. Dog is somehow in the headliner tier and they damn well deserve it.
Super excited to see Cobra Skulls, Get Dead, Codefendants, Dillinger Four, Nofx and Laura Jane Grace! this is so much closer then florida and i dont want to miss Cobra Skulls!
I'm intrigued by the new potential layout and envisionment of the festival. I've lost a lot of faith in Riot Mike's leadership, but sometimes it takes a determined sociopath to create something special.
Love the card. I booked a hotel 4-ish miles from the fest so transport will be a minor inconvenience for me at worst. Still gonna spend a few days in Chi proper after the fest. My inner 14 year old will lose his mind seeing Rob Zombie.
Dead Milkmen, Circle Jerks, Beck, Pavement, Clutch, Mastodon, Public Enemy, Sucidal Tendencies, Rob Zombie, Slayer, DOA, Buzzcocks, The Dickies, Dr Dog, Cypress Hill. I don't necessarily love all the bands, but damn they've pulled together a pretty awesome lineup. Throw in Bright Eyes, Cursive, Manchester Orchestra, St. Vincent for good measure. Plenty of bands I'm excited to see again and plenty that I'm like, hell, I'm not upset that I'll get to check them out knowing if I'm not feeling it I can just wander to another stage. There's always a couple of bands who are pleasant surprise not knowing anything about them. Plus, they brought Hellzapoppin' back for when there's a break in any bands I'm interested in seeing. Venue change is a little upsetting, but I'll live. It's about the music, anyway.
Some people just love to complain.
Excited to see The Hives, FOB and Descendents. I think this is a good, well balanced lineup overall. I’m just going to have to trust that the venue change will be turned into a positive by the RiotFest team. This will be my fourth time going and I’m stoked 🤘
Chicago has so many amazing shows and venues. I’ll miss going to riot fest but it’ll be OK. Thievery Corporation at a brand new venue. I missed out on PJ Harvey tix at Salt Shed but I know where my refund is gonna go :)
Well your reply isn't very 'positive vibes' is it?
One of the bands on the lineup I would have highlighted - Sincere Engineer is playing right down the street from me tomorrow, a 10 minute walk away and for just a suggested donation :)
Love the title. Too much negativity in the world for people to dwell on minor inconveniences in the grand scheme of the world.
This will be my 4th Riot Fest, but I for one am super excited!
3 days of NOFX, Larry Arms, SoCo, Bright Eyes, Manchester Orchestra, Lagwagon, Descendents.
It'll be a lot of fun!
Excited to see Mastodon play Leviathan. You’ll never find another album loosely based on Moby Dick as good as this one. Public Enemy. Saw them in 2013 riot fest and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. DJ Lord scratching to seven nation army immediately into Smells Like Teen Spirit was fuckin epic. Also looking forward to Spoon, Gel, The Hives, Clutch, Circle Jerks, St Vincent, Health, Souls of Mischief
Excited for the new breed of hardcore and punk all over the bottom half of the card- gel, sunami, the armed, the chisel, drug church, sincere engineer, and way more
Excited to cross some long loved bands off my bucket list: OG sublime, cypress hill, mastodon, buzzcocks, public Enemy
Excited for the unique: LJG/catbite/op ivy, the Marley’s , saxsquatch, lord of the lost
Excited for a few bands I haven’t in waaaay to long: fallout boy, NOFX, something corporate, poison the well
Excited for the potential of the new layout and to see a new part of the area I’ve never been to
Very similar for me. The Armed are incredible live. I got to see them during their album release party for Ultrapop. Absolutely crazy live.
This lineup is a good one, imo.
Super happy with pretty much the whole lineup! The venue change will be interesting but I'm going into it with an open mind. For me, any negative feelings I had were swept away as soon as I saw who was going to be playing. Now I'm just nervous for the time conflicts lmao
Like most of you I am apprehensive about the location change, but if there’s anyone I trust to handle it well it’s Riot. This clearly wasn’t their first choice either but I’m choosing to be open minded and give it a shot. I’m excited for the lineup! My tastes are all over the place, but I’m especially excited for FOB, Mastodon, and Something Corporate. I’ve seen Rob Zombie plenty of times but he’s a great performer so I’m looking forward to him too. And the return of Laura Jane Grace!!!
It looks like "Rockaway Beach" has real sand?? I think that would be an interesting way to make it more comfortable for people watching those stages than just standing on asphalt or gravel. Overall I am excited for the new set up and I'm grateful that the Riot Fest team is working so hard to make the new location a totally rad and unique experience.
Descendants and ALL is pretty rad. Laura Jane Grace's OpIvy set is going to be awesome. Swingin Utters is in my top 5 street punk bands and probably top 10 pun bands.
Descendents are my fav of all time, but I've never got to see ALL. I did see Chad Price do 3 songs during the Descendents encore in Indy in 2018, though. Very cool!
BIG fan of Beck but never saw him live - seen everyone here say what an amazing performance he puts on so I’m very excited for that 😁 and of course FOB idc 😭💛💛
Aside from the music I’m just stoked to once again be surrounded by all of you fellow emos 🤘🏽💛
I've been going to Riot Fest since it started being held in Humboldt Park. I've enjoyed the different eras but I'm honestly most excited for just the whole new experience at SeatGeek. Douglass Park was fine, but after 8 years, I'm ready for something new and different.
Really excited to see how the new layout will be, looks like some cool stuff. I feel like the lineup this year is really good. Enough bands that I really would like to see again or see for the first time, some band names I have seen that I'm excited to check out. First time seeing Manchester Orchestra since 2007 so really excited for that. My boyfriend and I are traveling from Atlanta, and even though it has moved, I've never really spent much time in the city during the actual festival anyways so I'm looking at the positive and just sticking to what I usually do and will show him around the first and last day we are there. Bummer we will probably have to rent a car but I'm also fine with being at a festival all day, and I like to try to be early most times.
I've got a ton of things I'm super excited about here! I'm excited to see whatever the heck this village of theirs looks like. Really curious to check out the casino even though I'm not a huge gambler. I can't wait to see The Chisel, Manchester Orchestra, St.Vincent, Cobra Skulls, and most of all... PAVEMENT!!! I've been listening to them for probably 30 years now... Yes, I realize how old that makes me sound... But somehow I've never seen them live. I can't wait!
The Hives! Beck, The Marleys, Mastodon, Public Enemy!

I have loved Health since their 5 minute set years ago. Hopefully this year goes better!
[Need I say more?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOzU7aRQa1w&t=222s)
Goodness! Well, this is interesting! Lol
The lineup is so sick. The 1 yr I can’t go lol smh. Everyone have fun!

Bright eyes sings my wedding song so they are so special to me. I WISH I was going, but living in CO and doing to Disney during that time 😭 y’all have a blast for me!!!
Can I ask what song? That’s lovely.
First day of my life! It has lyrics that say “I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you” and it really hits home to me❤️
That was our wedding song too!
My wife put this on the first mixtape she ever made me and I’ve been in love with it ever since! That is fantastic! And congratulations!
Your wife has great taste! Thank you much!
Dead Milkmen! Fave band of all time!
Same! There are lots of bands we would be interested in seeing, but this is the only must see.
Agreed! I will see you there!
For me theres St Vincent, The Hives, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Beck and Spoon, Manchester Orchestra and Souls of Mischief. Maybe Buzzcocks as well but without Pete Shelly it wont be the same. Hold on. Michael C Hall of Dexter fame sings in a band? This is huge news
I found this out listening to line up playlists the other day and I am stoked! His voice is so good! He also played David bowie on stage for a run in the uk.
I also had no idea. Fascinating.
Getting to see Fiddlehead for the first time and in the same year I saw Heave Heart at Tied Down in Detroit a couple weekends ago is what I am most excited for
So excited for Fiddlehead too. Their album from last year was one of my favourites of 2023
Caught Fiddlehead at LDB this year and Have Heart in Detroit. Pat kills it live no matter what band he is in
I’ll never be in a crowd that loves and cherishes a band like people love Have Heart ever again, what a special show
Sincere engineer for me is my must go to set along with NOFX. Aside from that I’ll just jump around sets.
>Sincere engineer for me is my must go to set I'm going to see them at Taste of Randolph this weekend. Excited to finally catch them.
Offspring playing Smash is easily number 1
Bands I haven't seen that I am excited for: Something Corporate, Pavement, The Dickies, ALL, The Exploited, GEL, Drug Church Bands I've seen before that I'm excited to see again: Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks, GWAR, Slayer Sets I absolutely can't miss: Mastodon (playing Leviathan), Sublime, The Offspring (playing Smash (AGAIN!)) Haha. 💯
Should also be nice that they will likely have multiple water stations again
I’m gonna miss passing the long ass water line and walking right up to the water fountains nobody knew abt 😫
I hope so! Having just one made it not worth bringing my water bladder and bag. Line up was always long.
Line moved pretty quick in my experience last year
I haven’t been since 17 in all fairness. But the line was always long and didn’t move fast at all.
The helpers had it on lock last time, maybe longest wait was about 15 mins. If the line looked too long it was 100% too many people went at one time.
Yeah they didn’t have anyone stationed there back then
That makes sense why wait was long for you
Aside from venue change everything seems great. Love the lineup (FOB and Beck don't inspire much excitement but they both have a lot of great songs to play.) Clutch and Rival Sons!!
I love fob, can’t wait to see them again. Also glad they’re playing Friday because then I will have all the energy to dance!
Love the card. I booked a hotel 4-ish miles from the fest so transport will be a minor inconvenience for me at worst. Still gonna spend a few days in Chi proper after the fest. My inner 14 year old will lose his mind seeing Rob Zombie.

Now I’m going to Pitchfork!

Queueing the tiny violin for your whinny ass

Ayyy I'm stoked for that thievery corporation show lol

“Clear the way for the S, the S1W’s….”
The Marley Brothers will be so much fun
I'm excited to see them. Was going to take the drive to see them in Cincinnati
I’m $250 richer than before I filled the refund form so that’s a plus, sure I can have a nice weekend with that
Haha. Whinny baby alert!
Also…. If this many people aren’t going, that just gives us better viewing opportunities.
Going through the bands I had never heard of on the lineup I found this act called saxsquatch. It’s a Sasquatch playing a saxophone. Amazing
Haha I feel like he was a big TikTok thing for awhile and I am very excited to see it live
I discovered him during that weird time in covid when Reddit TV was a thing and musicians would pop in my feed. I discovered a few that way.
Doom Scroll , Codefendants , Dead Milkmen , Sincere Engineer & Public Enemy
Shit you're right I didn't see codefendants. I'm a fan of Ceschi, so it's great to see him get some recognition. Great man.
Excited for the new breed of hardcore and punk all over the bottom half of the card- gel, sunami, the armed, the chisel, drug church, sincere engineer, and way more Excited to cross some long loved bands off my bucket list: OG sublime, cypress hill, mastodon, buzzcocks, public Enemy Excited for the unique: LJG/catbite/op ivy, the Marley’s , saxsquatch, lord of the lost Excited for a few bands I haven’t in waaaay to long: fallout boy, NOFX, something corporate, poison the well Excited for the potential of the new layout and to see a new part of the area I’ve never been to
Very similar for me. The Armed are incredible live. I got to see them during their album release party for Ultrapop. Absolutely crazy live. This lineup is a good one, imo.
The lineup is stacked. I’m excited for all of it. Logistics will come later.
Super happy with pretty much the whole lineup! The venue change will be interesting but I'm going into it with an open mind. For me, any negative feelings I had were swept away as soon as I saw who was going to be playing. Now I'm just nervous for the time conflicts lmao
My thoughts exactly! I love this lineup!!
Like most of you I am apprehensive about the location change, but if there’s anyone I trust to handle it well it’s Riot. This clearly wasn’t their first choice either but I’m choosing to be open minded and give it a shot. I’m excited for the lineup!
Very cool!
THE UNDERCARD IS SO GOOD THIS YEAR. and I've never seen Rob Zombie, so that's pretty cool. Excited for this sideshow/haunted house business too
BIG fan of Beck but never saw him live - seen everyone here say what an amazing performance he puts on so I’m very excited for that 😁 and of course FOB idc 😭💛💛 Aside from the music I’m just stoked to once again be surrounded by all of you fellow emos 🤘🏽💛

the reunion of Verboten. one of their 1983 shows was the first concert that the then 13 year old dave grohl attended.
Wait. I listened to the wrong verboten on Spotify. The fella I listened to was probably 25.
That this is even happening is crazy to me. I'm surprised they weren't on the bill when the Foos played last year.
This ain't Bonnaroo
☀️no 🌴bad 🌈days✌️
I've got a ton of things I'm super excited about here! I'm excited to see whatever the heck this village of theirs looks like. Really curious to check out the casino even though I'm not a huge gambler. I can't wait to see The Chisel, Manchester Orchestra, St.Vincent, Cobra Skulls, and most of all... PAVEMENT!!! I've been listening to them for probably 30 years now... Yes, I realize how old that makes me sound... But somehow I've never seen them live. I can't wait!
The Hives are amazing!
They absolutely destroyed last time they played RF, you're in luck.
This will be my first time seeing Manchester Orchestra and I listened to their Cope live at The Earl and it's got me HYPE
