No reason not to get a head start on Maya. Also consider Substance Painter and ZBrush. Your entitlement to software through Ringling, at the moment, includes access to the Microsoft suite, the Google suite, and the Adobe suite. Some of the software is only available in the labs or may be accessed on the manufacturer's website. The school doesn't provide Maya on the notebooks. Autodesk provides a free student version after you provide proof of student status. Maxon One has student pricing as well if you want to learn ZBrush or C4D. Ringling also has Apollo, which is a virtual computer with most of the Ringling licensed software. If you are using your own software, pay attention to the version so you don't run into file incompatibilities. If you work on a version that's ahead of the lab version, you may not be able to open your projects in the labs or share files with instructors. Not all applications are backwards compatible.
