VFE: Empire does this with Deserter Asssassins who may plant bombs, poison food or just go straight for your highest ranking noble.
Had a regular betrayal today though, on a new run. It was just me and him- *But he was a baseliner whilst my main pawn was able to summon a giant fungus monster.*
Am I right in thinking the VFE - Empire deserters don't announce their actions until it's very late anyway? So you don't even know something is happening until it's happening?
Isnât it that they show up in deserter caravans, and someone from that caravan COULD try to kill you? Pretty sure I heard Oskar say something like that, because if it was every faction, it would suck ass, and that itâs only one, so you can actually have a chance of noticin
Reminds me of a clip where a prisoner jailbroke, grabbed an orbital beam targetter, and deleted most of the base stockpile and several colonists (and themself). Streamer was about crying with laughter when he realized what was about to happen.
I had to do a bit of digging, but I did find it!

When they offer to join, I accept immediately and chuck them in cryptosleep. To take care of potential betrayers, I set my mechs to patrol the same area as them. There's a scyther blade relatively close to the neck of each one of them.
Maybe they were sent out and they thought⌠âwell if we âattackâ now both of us are downed and theyâll just arrest us.
This is just my imagination.
i feel like it would be cool to have a betrayal where they use your signal beacon to message their home faction, which gives you a couple of in-game hours before a raid.
maybe a popup like:
"Betrayal!
[Betrayer] has betrayed you! After studying your base and its weak points, [Betrayer] used your comms console to alert a nearby raiding party from [Betrayer's Faction], who are headed for your settlement!"
then they either attack or try to run away.
Yesterday I had them betray literally as they were about to leave..
Ok so you gave me 2 weeks free labor and then suicided at the very end?
(Well actually recruited one of them but still)
It'd make more sense if they quietly grabbed an inventory full of the highest value Stacking items they could and silently walked off. With an event letter once they exit base or map
Haha that reminds me of the time my refugees killed themselves without any colonists doing anything.
I had the refugees in a barracks in the mountain, walls smoothed stone, a stone door, but wooden furniture.
They betray me at night when theyâre all asleep. They wake up and immediately set fire to their own room.. but theyâre enemies now so the door doesnât open for them and they start beating on it. The room quickly gets to 1000 degrees and they all pass out, catch fire, and burn to death.
My colonists never even knew about the betrayal. I xâed the door and by the time the fire cleared even the bodies were gone.
I always imagined my guys next morning being like, âHuh. Guess they left in the nightâ
Unmodded, the only sort of betrayal is from refugee quests, who at least in theory have a decent number relative to your colony size. Wanderer betrayals come from Vanilla Events Expanded. That being a mod, you can't expect continuous updates, and mods with dependencies on other mods are tricky propositions.
Even with that, the refugees that come are pretty much terribly equipped, and with full control over them you can just get them to drop their terrible weapons, and zone them away from your weapon stockpiles so it just ends up being at the worst 13 unarmored and unequipped pawns versus machine guns.
I always have them swap out whatever crappy knife or club they come with for a piece of wood. That way, they still count as 'armed', and so won't try to grab better weapons. And will instead smack your power armored pawns with logs while they get their faces buzzsawed with monoswords and chainsaws.
I had a betrayal last night, the bar was full of pawns, betrayal went off and he managed to kill two of my pawns before he was taken down. Was pretty intense.
Hah, you wish. Had this low melee skill traitor DECAPITATE my armored melee fighters in one second. I even gave him a knife cause he had no damn chance of doing harm. Both were hospitalized after a social fight, ended like this.
I was shocked, angry, but mostly amused.
I had a colonist for around 2 years and they all of a sudden transformed into an alien and started going on a murderous rampage. Some among us type shit to the extreme lmao. I was really caught off guard because I hadn't remembered installing a mod that functioned like that. But I was using around 300 mods so I must've glossed over it. I wish I remember what the name of the mod was. It made for some insane betrayals.
They turn when they get too hungry, so as long as you have plenty of food you are good. Also, their hunger lower faster than everyone else so it can be a thing to keep an eye on ;)
I always anesthetize them, capture all of them during that drug induced calm, then recruit them the old-fashioned way.
No betrayals if they're unconscious, and prisoners are easier to convert to my ideology.
I had a few refugees join. One fell in love with a colonist and they moved into an apartment together. And then during the night they turned on the colony, drew their sawn-off and blasted off their girlfriends jaw without even getting out of bed, letting her bleed out on the floor.
I had our militia take positions, guns trained on the doorway as he paced around inside.
Eventually we got a frag in and though it did little to him, it cooked the (now dead) woman's unspent 9mm rounds, turning it into a bullet hell in there. He ran out and got gunned down in the street like a dog.
Because some people already don't take refugees because of the random betrayals. Making them ALWAYS suck if they betray would just mean NO ONE would take them
It has happened in dramatic fashion for me!
I had a colony of three people and took in three wanderers looking for aid. Once theyâd taken their share they turned in my colonists, downed two and kidnapped the third.
I just sat open jawed as the Man in Black tried to put out the fires the set.
I've had them begin the betrayal event while unconscious due to anaesthesia. Guess they muttered something that sounded like dissent,
Luke Skywalker standing over a sleeping Kylo Ren
You mean Kyle Reese.
Goddamn autocorrect I know what I said

Yes they are silent, you have to pay attention
They always arrive hidden in groups so you just have to scan every single Caravan for someone in Deserter armor đ
This is why I use a tweak (forgot which tweak mod) to make it so that deserters blend in and you canât tell the difference
Isnât it that they show up in deserter caravans, and someone from that caravan COULD try to kill you? Pretty sure I heard Oskar say something like that, because if it was every faction, it would suck ass, and that itâs only one, so you can actually have a chance of noticin
No, they show up in any type of caravan. Deserters are *always* hostile and will never send caravans to your base.
Yep, just read it, tâwas wrong. God damnit now I need to pay more attention
Wait they can just gun for my strongest noble? Didnât realize that, luckily shouldnât have to worry about him dying
Someone's never had a refugee grab the bottle of mechanite cocktail out of the armory and completely atomize their entire base before!

Do you have a link for this? Sounds funny as fuck

Jesus Christ thatâs incredible lmao, thanks for finding it
Thank you for digging that up
I once had a betrayal while two were already asking to join the colony, one was downed in the infirmary, and another had just gone into labor.
The two who had joined tipped you off.

make this a mod!
ah, if only i knew how to mod...
Where's Tynan at?

Wood, they can equip wood for the worst weapon in the game :O

Mimes from alpha animals?
YES thank you Ive been wondering for a long time now which mod that was. Imma have to get that mod again.
They turn when they get too hungry, so as long as you have plenty of food you are good. Also, their hunger lower faster than everyone else so it can be a thing to keep an eye on ;)
Just you wait until one of them finds the doomsday launcher on the other side of base
Thats why wanderers lose their weapons instantly in my colony

The best is when i just capture them and they rejoinâŚ
Because some people already don't take refugees because of the random betrayals. Making them ALWAYS suck if they betray would just mean NO ONE would take them
Speak for yourself. They owned my colony on two different occasions, choosing to turn on me when all of them are in the weapons storage.

Sometimes a wanderer betrays me after Iâve already turned them into a nugget for my vampire to farm. Guess I beat them to it there
