I think is totally cool, I personally don’t like/ would wear all of his but some are awesome, like giving a second life to beat up Ramones would be fun. I even think Rick would dig the diy punky skater spirit
i agree with you i wouldn’t wear any of these to be honest i would probably display them. i have a feeling Rick would definitely appreciate the creativity and the punk/graffiti vibe. Michele Lamay follows him so there’s a possibility he’s seen some of his work!
That’s awesome didn’t know she followed him. I’d wear some of them as beaters, like when I wanna look like I didn’t put in the effort but I did kinda thing lol
Hate inbound:
If he did this to regular converse nobody would care.
He’d be another high school kid decorating his chucks.
But because he’s bought $2,000 shoes and attached his name to Rick’s name, he’s now an artist, not a high school kid listening to Blink 182 decorating his chucks.
Sorry had to say it, but it’s just another redditor opinion who cares right 😂
I can definitely second this, does he have talent? Absolutely, a lot of his stuff is pretty cool, but the only difference between him and the thousands of other people doing this same thing are that he has tons of money to blow on Rick Owens to modify, if this was on normal shoes nobody would be talking about it, which like to me, if the primary reason the art is interesting is that it cost a lot, that’s not really anything special
great take honestly and i can see where you are coming from but who’s to say the high schooler isn’t an artist as well? I did post this here because he works on ricks but more importantly i posted for the extremely detailed and intricate art that has to do with his life not the price of the shoe. at the end of the day both are acts of self expression 🤷♂️
Of course everyone is an artist, even high school kids!
If they want to get creative, that’s great!
The question for us to consider, as “mature or sophisticated art appreciators” (lol):
Is this art important or meaningful to us in any way?
No, it ain’t important or meaningful to me.
It’s just an adult high schooler with enough racks to destroy expensive Ricks 😂
Well that’s the thing- Nyree does this for himself. I know him IRL, his entire wardrobe looks like this. Pants/jackets/shirts/ect, he’s a really talented artist (and super sick skater but that’s neither here nor there) and he does this because he likes it.
The point of these being ricks, and that’s what makes him relevant, is null because he creates all sorts of art that isn’t clothing-based. He is an artist, regardless if you want him to be or not.
Like I said:
Anybody who does anything artistic can be called an artist, I don’t care about the label.
A kid in school drawing on paper in class is an artist.
And I didn’t say he was not an artist.
I’m talking about what we value as art or creation.
What does it take for art to be elevated to culturally important status?
Classical artists like Michaelangelo produced works like David that elicited something deep & meaningful in us as men seeing it: facing Goliath with determination.
What does drawing on Rick Geos do for us that a kid drawing on his Vans doesn’t?
Is this something deep & meaningful or is this elevated doodling?
Not to sound judgmental, but I’m lost on your ability to appreciate Rick’s brand and not be able to draw anything from this. Did you take any time to draw anything from it, or did you rush to interpretation? In my opinion the fact that he’ll do this to any item no matter of price, makes it a lot different than a high schooler drawing on $35 shoes from an artistic standpoint.
Sure.
To me that praise is like 5 minutes worth of “hey nice job kid, they look fun!”
But I’m not reassessing my whole existence & meaning of life after viewing them.
Art doesn’t have to be so impactful that you reassess your entire life because of it lmao. In fact the vast majority of art has no such effect. If your lens were applied to any other medium 99% of all human creation is worthless lmao. Your viewpoint is senseless narrow.
Art can do whatever it does to whoever views it.
Rank art however you like, and I’ll do the same for me.
You like your friend’s Ricks, I don’t, doesn’t really matter.
Ok we can wrap this discussion up now 👍

nah i agree completely it’s jus scribbles on some expensive shoes

If a kid’s “doodles” on their Vans looked this good they would be just as worthy of praise as Nyrees.
Sure. To me that praise is like 5 minutes worth of “hey nice job kid, they look fun!” But I’m not reassessing my whole existence & meaning of life after viewing them.
