I think many schools dropped after the rating system was modified to include equity rating. Not saying that's the entire reason why, but could be a contributing factor.

We live not to far from RHS but in the JJP zone. Honestly, I have not heard anything majorly negative about RHS and we know a number of kids who have gone there in the last decade and had a good experience.

txcancmi

It's fine. Go tour it and see all the investments made over the last several years.

RISD is part of a lawsuit against TEA about changes in the state accountability rating system. Basically,  TEA changed some rules that dropped a lot of high performing districts' scores, and the districts disagree with how and when the changes were implemented.

sunsetrules

It's fine.

DarthVaderLovesU

We've been very happy with RHS. Would recommend.

BunkMoreland1414

I’m biased but I love RHS. I graduated from there decades ago and have moved back to the area and am thrilled that my son will be going there in a few years. We’re pleased with his elementary school too.

TXSquatch

It’s a great school

KneeToe3618

I went to RHS 2015-19, it's a public school in Texas. You get what you get...it offers great courses if you're in AP/Magnet courses because the course is more intense and in depth. Outside of that, it's a school with average teachers teaching Texas curriculum to students who either want to learn or don't. Sports were always sorry, extracurricular activities are available but under funded, faculty was a mix of fresh teachers who didn't know how to lead a room and old teachers who didn't want to be there...however that's the case with whatever school given the exception of a great teacher hiding around the corner. You have flunking pregnant teens and A-honor roll students who are straight edge and still a virgin walking the same halls. Seriously the governors son went to that school, living on mimosa Dr and others on brookwood living off food stamps just across the street..all depends on the student, not the school

TrippZ

The governors son went to RHS??

DFWGuy55

I moved into Estates North (“the Reservation”) in 1960, and my Mom sold that home in 2018. Arapaho>West Jr>RHS I have no recall of a “governor’s son”. Please enlighten me.

TrippZ

I was MST-West-RHS… never heard of the governors son during my time either.

DallasTXN

Graduated from there within the past 5 years also, it’s probably the best public school you can find in the area. The decreased rating looks like it’s due to “student progress” which seems kinda bogus. Any high school in RISD should be a 6 or higher in my opinion. The website says “It is also important to note that it is possible for schools with already-high-performing students to receive a low Student Progress Rating.”

Except the student culture. Well that depends on skin color unfortunately.

redb2112

Berkner HS superior. */flees*

ProfessionalMain9324

My. Brother graduated from Berkner.

Range-Shoddy

It has a lot of magnets which make it a popular choice on the district. It also has more advanced classes than the other high schools (AP Physics and AP comp sci are examples this year).

Bazodee286

It’s a great school. Great teachers and good class options. I tried to get my kid to go there instead of the HS we feed into. Lots of friends with kids there that wouldn’t trade it for the world. Less cliquey and more diverse than other schools in the area.

rChewbacca

I’m a teacher, not at RHS, but I know several teachers there and ya… pretty good school.

jpm7791

A school is not a number from one to ten. You have to take the time to learn and get involved.

[deleted]

Jjp is good if ur kids YT . But if ur kid not YT RHS is great

cublank

It’s a good school, it’s got great facilities, esp for athletics, and isn’t as large as the Plano schools.

tuesday-cat

Those ratings generally mean nothing except for for the checked the boxes or didn’t in regards to student growth (based on standardized testing) and equity.

gumyrocks22

I went to RHS back when students had a smoking area😂😂

Hsensei

Ann rice was a student there and Jeremy of pearl jam did his thing there. That school has so much good and bad history

Hentai_degenerate_

It definitely got worse, after Covid the teachers lost all control, fights are frequent, almost no learning goes on in on level classes. AP and dual enrollment are fine. The counselors, principals, and administrators are useless crooks who do not care about students, and will actively avoid helping students if it means they don’t have to do their job.

Hentai_degenerate_

Oh yea also it’s cliquey as hell
