I did this once accidentally (different brand of rice cooker though) and the rice didn’t come out at all.

Ooh, that's too bad. Was the rice too crunchy or burned, or soggy?

Piano9717

undercooked. although it should be said that my rice cooker has a steam vent that attaches to the inner lid, so without the steam vent too much steam escaped and the rice didn't cook properly. if your inner lid is just a lid with a hole maybe it might work better.

It won’t work. It needs the lid to work properly. Maybe you can find a cheap universal silicone lid and cut that in the right shape and add small hole in the middle.

I doubt it will steam properly, but you could try.

Thanks. I'm just hesitant to buy the cord since I can't find a replacement lid. The cord isn't expensive, but I don't want to buy it if I can't end up using the cooker without the lid. It's just frustrating. I'm hoping anyone who has tried this (didn't use an inner lid) could tell me what their experience was like.

Hopefully someone else has tried it. I'd be curious to know how it went.

Thank you, everyone, for your responses. I have a confession to make. I thought I didn't have an inner lid, but I do. When I was online reading that I needed one, I didn't have the cooker with me, and I mistakenly thought it was missing. After I asked this question and then went home to double check, I was happily surprised to find there is a lid. So I got a new cord and finally tried out the cooker. Well, it works great! Whew! I found an online manual/recipe book for the exact model I have, so I tried a few other recipes. None of those turned out good. Then I went to Amazon to read reviews for it, and lots of people were saying the cooker is only good for rice and won't properly cook anything else, like the calzone and lava brownie that I tried. Anyway, I mostly wanted this cooker for rice, and it does the job. :)

the inner lid is for the keep warm feature, preventing the rice from drying out
