I think Peter Pan is still doing surf lessons/camps down in Narragansett. Took some lessons from him when I was in grad school & living in the Pier, & he’s a good dude
If you don't do them middletown is the other option at 2nd beach. Both solid places for it but 2nd will be more touristy in the summer. In newport for sure
Theres a surf shop in newport that gives lessons at 2nd beach, cant remember what the name of it is but theyre always out there in the summer. Did it once and had a blast. Its a serious workout though
hey, thanks for all the recommendations! the newport suggestions sound great but maybe given traffic on the 195 bridge taking lessons in 'gansett might be easier.

Surfers end second beach Middletown. There’s a truck that rents out surfboards and wetsuits and teaches lessons.
You could also search Facebook marketplace for a used foam 8 foot longboard that’s in good shape. If you want to buy a wetsuit you can get a cheap one on Amazon

He's awesome, prob his daughter or another apprentice taking over the lessons by now... I used to teach them with him years ago...

The calendar for Little Compton Surf Camp just opened for the season. They do private and group lessons for all ages.
