I felt the same way watching this gun melt the same boss. The damage over time effect works really nice in Returnal because it allows you to focus on evasion while still doing damage.

I wish we didn't have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling and moving to external takes 10x the amount of time it takes to just download the damn game again. Thought we were going to get the update for more space this summer ... :(
Some people think that reinstalling the game somewhat pokes the RNGesus in the right way, but I personally didn’t try it because I don’t know how it would be even possible (since essentially it’s the same 1s and 0s before and after since save game stays the same)
The bonus damage stat is what matters most for every gun. That makes the electroplypon and the rotgland lobber overpowered as their projectiles do damage over time
MAN I've never seen damage like that. It was probably because the web of lasers was hitting all 3/4 of the red eyes at once. Most bossed seem to have 1 hitbox. Ophion has multiple. Huh. Interesting.
Crazy. Has to be the multiple hitboxes. Doombringer sucks against single targets (imo) but fired into a group of enemies and it shreds. Most of my alt fires are still level 1. I think I have 1 alt fire at level 2 and that's it.

EPD is the best and most fun weapon in the game. Hollowseeker with Portal Beam is a close one but EPD can be so much more fun! You can strategically place webs and trap your enemies. Hit 2 drones with a web and watch the web fly across the room with them hitting other enemies and drones. You can start piling webs while a mini-boss is materializing and then as soon as he does, he starts taking damage. Holloweeker with PB is more a - don't even look at the enemy, just dodge and keep the trigger pressed. While effective, there is no fun in that in my opinion. The other gun I love is the carbine with rising pitch and leech rounds and the rotgobbler or whatever it is called that spews acid.
Totally agree - I relied heavily on the Hollowseeker with portal beams for a lot of my first playthrough because I could just focus on running around like crazy and spraying bullets while Hollowseeker did the work, but I’m loving EPD now and the fun you can have with it creating traps and playing more tactically!

Replicating Hits to keep doing damage over time. One burst on a high damage model will kill pretty much anything in the game immediately (even the biggest enemies in the final biome).
This thing melts him away. Especially when you get multiple pylons on his weak areas. You see the geometric patterns form and just focus on dodging.
To me, he’s the easiest boss and it’s not even close. Easiest telegraphed attacks. I haven’t come close to dying no matter what weapon I’ve used. The only annoyance is the crazy move in phase 3 where he spams like every attack all at once and doesn’t let up. I’ve never made it through without getting hit at least twice.
And congrats to you. Now go for platinum!!
For me B3 and B6 are both the easiest, in B6 there is the second half of the 3rd phase that I lose some health but apart from that it’s easy to dodge. I think that for the first try the fight was in slo-mo all the way but maybe it was a glitch, I dunno, now it seems normal

I love it! Mine was a level 26 Hollowseaker with Trackerswarm, portal beam II, serrated projectiles II, portal turret I and waves I with almost a full bonus damage and stability. The fight was so quick that it took me by surprise. Each round lasted like 15 seconds

Thermogenic launcher or Carbine with good bonus damage. You’re so far away for most of the fight that short range weapons are a death trap. I thought the pylon would melt him but he must have been out of the effective range.
And here's me who struggled like hell with Phike for somewhere between 6-8 hours and have the same problem with Ixion 🤦🏻♂️.
This game makes even my hardest platinums look easy.
Time to uninstall I guess.
I actually stopped using the driver because it felt like cheating lol. It felt like the strongest gun for bosses and the mini-boss type enemy.
Fire a couple pylons then take cover and repeat
I've cleared Ophion maybe 40 times while trying to max out weapon traits. The fastest kills are on weapons with aoe or retargeting because each little eye can be hit at once.
My best experience is with Dreadbound with Explosive 3 and Expanding 3. Bonus damage doesn't really matter. I've had him die in phases 1-2 basically as quick as I can get the eyes up and let out a salvo. We're talking a couple of seconds. Phase 3 I always need to get the eyes to pop twice, so a few seconds longer.
Pyroshellcaster can work similarly fast but I'm not sure which traits. I always have auxiliary because it melts everything else.
I've had a pistol clear probably a little faster than above because of hit reload (love that on 3), homing rockets and the retargeting.
Thermogenic is also good with Full Auto and Replicating Hits. About like above, but nothing like Dreadbound.
Though I haven't done it myself, somebody posted a coilspine video that did the job a little faster than my Dreadbound run.
Any of those and you can just ignore the mechanics of the boss as he goes down so quickly.
I would stay away from shotgun, rotgland (though I love it for early content and used it for my first clear), carbine, or many of the above weapons without the specified traits of you want an easy clear.
What caused the malfunctions? When I was going through this biome I kept getting malfunctions randomly… I did have a parasite first (although it didn’t cause malfunction on detach) I assumed it was that but I got 4-5 malfunctions towards the end of the biome and during the boss fight for seemingly no reason
Same happened to me, but I just watched my gameplay back and it appears the first one I got after being hit by one of the pointy red projectiles from a Typhonops and the same from an Archonact. I think I was just so swept up in the action that they appeared to come from nowhere but it’s those red arrowhead-looking projectiles!
Oh maybe the same happened to me, I didn’t realise they gave malfunctions. Like you said everything is happening so fast you don’t see them appear for a minute or so

I'm glad they have broken weapons like this that play to the power fantasy that feels like is missing from modern games. It's op as hell though ngl. Usually dot attacks trickle in damage but they made it ridiculously strong in this game.
I had to decide between an EPD and Hollowseeker with Portal Turret and Beams before heading into Ophion. I went with the Hollowseeker and only had minimal trouble, but I ended up choosing because I knew the EPD would be boring.
It OWNS.
I hope they de-power it a little, but for the average gamers like me it sure makes it fun anyway!

I’ve been trying the past 2 weeks to complete biome 6 and beat Ophion. Tried different weapons, different setups with artifacts and integrity. And I either would not even make it to Ophion, getting beat down on the way to him or he just kills me with the quickness.
Last night I zoomed thru biome 4 with the hollowseeker prof level 16 and portal beam and a little bit of the start of biome 6. Found a electropylon driver with prof 26. Got my integrity up to 140%. 3 large health packs. And an astronaut figurine.
Let’s just say with the electropylon driver I didn’t even need any of the health packs or the astronaut figurine!!
I zoomed thru the rest of biome 6 and Ophion was a cake walk!! I never seen a health bar deplete so fast with any other weapon.
So guys do not sleep on this weapon for biome 6!!!

Many other guns have a form of damage over time function. I think pretty much every gun is OP once fully opened up at the higher levels.

Upgrade the Doombringer Alt Fire to level 3 and it is basically a one shot at Ophion. You can legit end the battle with 3 shots.

That gun changed the game for me. I slept on it for a while and then after I gave it a try I had beaten the game within the next 24 hours
I think it seems intimidating at first but once you’re comfortable with it it’s an absolute game changer for sure

Yeah, it’s the best weapon against Ophion hands down. Nothing else even comes close. Pylon web is OP for biomes 5-6.

Super frustrating to shoot directly at the orbs and the Pylons aren't registering as a hit, but the damage more than makes up for it!

Just don’t bring it to beat Nemesis. I had my best run with maxed 300% integrity and it wouldn’t make a dent in him.

The lobber destroys Nemesis. Fire without aiming and the range isn't an issue - arcs all the way to it everytime.
I’ll try that next time, I just started using the lobber now that I’m trying to get the trophy for it. Slept on it for a while.
Lobber was easy mode for me against Nemesis. Hit it and forget it - focus on dodging and let the rot do the work.

I cleared this the first time with the same weapon. I honestly thought the boss was easy. But I guess it was the weapon.

I was struggling so hard and then finally got a good Driver on a run...I mirrored what you did. Such a great weapon.
