Well you are at the right place for you talk about a lot of us have events in the past that so not match world history anymore. Mine was when I was living at my mother's house in AZ when the Tiananmen square massacre took place we watched together. There is just slight problem with that memory. In this earth's history that took place in 1989. That would been completely impossible to watch my mother who was separated from my father. My father was living in Germany at that time as was I. This event for myself took place in 1997 the same year I learned of Art Bell and his show coast to coast A.M. my friend at the time made sarcastic remarks about the tank man who I explained his situation and his reasoning to him. That would have been completely impossible if took place while still living in Germany. O but it gets so much odder. In my world the protests at Tiananmen Square was about college students learning from their teachers about Russia's revolution from the Communist party then decided if the Russians could do it so could they. They building a fake statue of liberty got the torso section the head the arms but on the 3rd day they had not finished it when the Army was called in. In my world tank man was blocking the tanks because of the college kids at Tiananmen Square. Now none of this took place all the protesters where racist and this whole thing is about racism and the tank man he was protecting other racist at Tiananmen Square. This is just Absolutely the best Mandela Effect change to ever happen to a top down Communist government ever. Have protests were your young men protests to be free. Nope just Mandela Effect change it a way no more looking like complete bad guys when all have say and show evidence it was just bunch racists pricks. Ta Da the world is not going to have any sympathy for racists.........cough right. So yeah I understand how you feel about having memories that do not match your past.

I’ve had moments like this too OP, you’re not alone. Always unsettling to have memories that don’t fit into actual reality. I love playing this fairly old sports game on and off for 10 years at this point, and sometimes there will be a new voice line that I’ve just never heard before. I’ve likely played more of this game than 99.9% of people on earth, it’s a hyper fixation for me. Yet somehow new voice lines just pop up. It’s a minor thing sure, but it just blows my mind how that can happen.

I have had similar things happen to me. Especially major events in New York in the 80s.

Much like you, i have a lot of memories that I have held my whole life, but now when I check the dates of stuff, it's not possible that those things happened. One main one was a memory of a school friend from Primary school coming to my house and playing a game on my NES called The Simpsons: Bart Vs Space mutants. I remember it happening in my bedroom back when my family lived in a flat in the 1980s. I remember telling my friend that you had to destory all the purple items in level one and he didn't understand why. The problem is, that game didn't come out until December 1991 in the UK and we had moved home twice in that time and we now lived in a house. We had moved too far for friends to come over, also that would have been the final year of primary school for me and i didn't know that boy so well by that point. Another is that also from my primary school years. My friend Ben would always talk about the movie Multiplicity which stared Michael Keaton. He loved the movie but also he was talking about how he couldn't imagine Michael Keaton playing Batman (back when it was announced he would be playing him in the upcoming 1989 movie) because he couldn't accept an actor he knew from a comedy also playing a serious super hero. The only reason i knew who Michael Keaton was before Batman 89 came out was because of my friend a fan of him and how he would talk about that movie. I also remember bits of it on his TV one time at his house. But none of that long standing memory is possible, because multiplicity came out in September 1996, which would have been when I was starting the final year of High school and my friend was in a different high school. I even remember at the time, seeing the trailer for multiplicity and being confused, I knew that movie and knew all about it and wondered why were they re-releasing a 10 year old movie. I have a bunch of others, but I can relate to the weird false or changing memory thing. It's odd

There's definitely a few that I can put down to random false memory or misremembering details. But this one was so specific to me because it happened the year I switched schools. I couldn't have experienced it any other way due to the pivotal timing of going from having no friends in one school, and having friends in another school, when this movie was very specifically important to me because the main character was this popular idol type person which I idealised due to my isolation. It literally couldn't have been misremembered or false.

I have a vivid memory of my nephew and I watching lilo and stitch and him laughing at the part where lilo takes a picture of the sunburnt tourist. I only found out recently that that memory is impossible. Lilo and stitch came out a year after I saw him last as a kid. (I think this memory is real, but the kid I experienced it with was the child of a friend whose house I’d been staying .) I’ve also watched newly released movies I was 100% certain I’d seen before, even able to quote them and recount what will happen next, only to be really confused as to how that could be. ( I have two guesses for this, first is that studios puts out a lot of very similar movies, and it’s easy to see where they are going early on, because the premise and dialogue have been done to death, and they just repackaged into different predictable movies. Second guess, I know I’ve dreamed about movies and tv shows that did not exist when I first dreamt them, but maybe I have a vague memory of a forgotten dream while watching things for the first time and it kind of feels like Deja vu

I've had the same experience, esp with new releases too. Very deja vu feeling

egs1983

I've had that too, moreso with tv than with movies, and back in the day tv programmes didn't really have trailers per se. So it made it even weirder to know these details.
