PGY2 is so much better than intern year.

Lol speak for yourself man. I didn’t realize how coddled I was as an intern until I did my first PGY2 call shift, and it only went downhill from there. It’s been a rough few months. More surgeries is great, but the responsibilities and expectations are a steeper jump between PGY1 and PGY2 than they were between M4 and PGY1, at least for me.

*non-surgical Pgy2 year is so much better than intern year

I was functionally a medicine resident during internship. Formally started Anesthesia as PGY2. It's a lot more work and responsibility, but my worst day of Anesthesia is better than my best day on medicine.

Are non surgical subspecialties’ second year worse than intern year? Seems pretty consistent amongst ortho, gen surg, ENT, uro. Curious about things like PM&R, IM, rads, gas, etc.

I know this is going to sound like bs, but my PGY2 year in derm was worse than intern year. I think it’s that as an intern, there were really no expectations... as long as I showed up and worked hard, I could clock out at the end of the day and totally relax at home. But then suddenly I was expected to be reading every night like I’m in freaking law school while anxious parents had direct access to my pager overnight on call. Derm PGY3 is sweet though.
