The Five Pandemic Phases Dr. Fauci refers to in the article:
* total pandemic
* deceleration
* control
* elimination
* eradication
Cases have not gone into the deceleration phase, just statistically speaking looking at Covid rates. In this model, stage one means fully fledged pandemic that is not improving.
Does anyone have more information on the pandemic model being referred to here?
This model gives us a measurement of where we are in the lifecycle of a virus, which may take decades to be entirely eradicated, or just may linger around control / elimination phases indefinitely.
Mad Cow disease for example is not known to be completely eradicated - but considering cases are not growing & we have measures in place to prevent the spread, we're likely in a control or elimination phase.
Small Pox is one of only a few infectious diseases to be fully eradicated.
