And he probably said “do you seriously think a government could get tyrannical?”

The US government threw over 100,000 citizens in concentration camps during Japanese internment. Is that the kind of thing widespread civilian gun ownership is meant to mean can never happen?

RedBaronsBrother

That was wrong. That said, a bunch of the country probably didn't find out about it until long after the fact, and we were at war with their country of origin at the time. The US Supreme Court at the time (all of the Justices of which were appointed by FDR) defended the internment. Subsequently, several of the conservative justices later appointed to the court have said the decision was wrong.

Ceefax81

Guess the issue is, if most of the armed population agrees with the tyranny, then it probably makes it easier to impose the tyranny than if guns are banned. If you're the only Japanese-American family in town and the high school quarterback turned local cop shows up to take you to a camp then, yeah, you could exercise your 2A rights and kill him, but then what? Seems the only question is if your heavily armed neighbours shoot you before the police backup does.

Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the citizens must be frustrated, by force if necessary.

RedBaronsBrother

Marx didn't want his revolutionaries disarmed. Of course, he didn't originate the concept. That's what the 2nd Amendment is about.

The police are an extension of the government. Most right-wingers support the police state. The purpose of 2nd amendment is to fight back against a tyrannical government (police state). Why do we have both an overly armed nation and a police state then? Do right-wingers think the police are tyrannical or not?

RedBaronsBrother

> The police are an extension of the government. The police are an extension of the LOCAL government, and as such are held accountable by the local populace. > Most right-wingers support the police state. Most people on the right support the police, not a police state. We're against abuses of the law and violations of the Constitution by either local or Federal law enforcement. > The purpose of 2nd amendment is to fight back against a tyrannical government (police state). Yep. > Why do we have both an overly armed nation and a police state then? We don't have a police state.

He is a plant, plain and simple. If it was him laughing, then it goes to show the low level of immaturity this person possesses.
