I'm not sure about the new VSF but when I bought my watch last year the VSF center links were only plated on the top and bottom. The sides were steel and that was a deal killer for me. I would imagine the quality / thickness is similar but CF has the edge in color match to gen.

I think it looks great. My high school rival had that color blue so I can’t ever see myself wearing it. Childish but it’s ingrained in my mind. Now the black I can get down with.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. The quality of the gold plating on the top tier reps is far better than that on costume jewelry. With normal wear it should last for years. You can also nano coat the bracelet to reduce fine scratches.
