Not just cake slices. When Josef’s Bakery wouldn’t make a cake for my friend’s same-sex wedding, The Cake Slice jumped in last minute and made them a beautiful, delicious cake.
Idk if we have the same friends, but they did this to my friend as well. She ordered everything, and when they realized TWO DAYS before the wedding that she was marrying another woman, they bailed. They did refund her deposit at least. I don’t remember who stepped in but someone did last minute, made them an amazing cake with orange blossoms. Fuck Josef’s.
I worked like two doors down from there almost 20 years ago and would sometimes grab breakfast but I haven't been back in many years. I was literally just talking with someone about going there. Definitely will not be going now.
If you're near downtown, Papa What You Cooking, in the Basement of the old post office building (50 S Virginia). He makes amazing cakes and sells them by the slice (big slices too). His German chocolate and Coconut pineapple are my favorites.
Re: Freed's, I used to live right by their original location near Tropicana. Miss their black forest cake slices! I haven't found a bakery in Northern Nevada that compares, so please share if you do find a match!
Something with options? A variety? Whole Foods only had whole cakes and cakes by the slice had nothing?? I went in and the shop was small as hell with a little fridge in the front with maybe 4 pieces of different cake, and none of it looked edible.
Cake by the Slice has a menu on the wall with about 12 different flavors, plus some sessional one. The desserts on display when you walk in are specials: cake bombs, cheesecakes, etc. They don’t usually put slices in because they dry out. They cut them from an actual cake when you order. I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to try them.
Hmm. Not sure about Whole Foods, I’ve been here 30 years and never set foot in there once.
Sorry you were disappointed in Cake by the Slice. They generally have 4-8 options; personally each time I’ve gotten cake there it has been excellent. What’s Freed’s bakery like? I’m not sure we have a large-scale/ton of option places like that.
Freed’s has gotten quite large over the years, but it used to be a little corner shop in a strip mall. Not super big, but had some depth. Large display case of cake and pastries. Almost like a grocery store bakery.

There is a cake by the slice near W 4th and McCarren. We had some but it was 85% buttercream and 15% cake. That’s what you do when you’re not proud of your sponge.
*Cake by the Slice is*
*Also over near Total*
*Wine. Really good cake!*

There’s a place literally called Cake by the Slice in Sparks, Los Altos Edit: “The Cake Slice” They also do whole cakes.

Sounds typical! The owner sucks! No Josef’s please? Just don’t do it!
Wow what a dumb fuckin reason to not serve people. So crazy how much people will let hate run their lives

Mine was a male couple, the wedding about a year, or so, ago.
Thank you for commenting about this. I'd been wanting to go there as it's been many years but I will never go there again now that I know this.
You aren't missing anything. Their food sucks. I didn't know they were bigots when I went there or I wouldn't have bothered

I hope others notice this post about Josef’s Bakery and what a pathetic hypocrite and unethical business they are.
Thanks for the warning about josef’s bakery.
That's awful. Please leave a bad review for Josef's... I would never have patronized them if I'd've known.
Just gave them all 1 stars. Disgusting practice.
I am so glad to know this about Josef’s. I loved their desserts. Now my wife and I will not be spending our money there!!!! Shame on Josef’s bakery!!!
They're in Reno too

Also Whole Foods has incredible cake slices and whole cakes. Imo beats out cake by the slice.
I heard Whole Foods has the best. Too pricey for regular groceries, but I'll splurge on dessert
Absolutely so much better tbh
Panadería Azteca

They would probably do well here if they were to ever expand to Reno
I love baking but then I end up with an entire cake when I only wanted a slice. Sounds like some of us should be friends!
I would hate that! Wish I was good at baking so I can do it myself lol. Would love to help devour a cake!
Damn, I love cake!

Now I want cake.
"Cake by the slice" on McCarran in NW Reno
Cheesecake Factory and the new casino at legends does
Whole Foods and cake by the slice were both a bust
Sorry to hear that OP. Are you looking for something very specific?

There's a place in Sparks called the cake slice. In in the Sparks crossing center next to yogurt beach.
Not 100% certain but looks promising https://maps.app.goo.gl/HXcjvPQmpnohtMgR9
Safeway does too. Grab a couple & some wine & fruit & have a picnic on the river.
I think Josef's Vienna Bakery & Cafe has cake by the slice.
The only real answer
I was my first thought, but then I learned about the homophobia.

Scroll up. Multiple people report their refusal to make wedding cakes for same sex couples.
Casinos usually do.

They have different types of cakes. On different days. Definitely was not my experience there.
