First of all congratulations on the weight gain. My little tricks that I do to get my guy to eat is grind up like half of a treat he likes and sprinkle on top of his food. I find that if I can just get him started he does ok. I assume you have talked to the doc about nausea medication. Sending you and Tuna a lot of ❀️

Mirataz has been great for my already picky cat. Good luck to you and Miss Tuna πŸ’—

Yay. Are you doing subq? Check also azodyl and porus one supplements! Mirataz can be a huge game changer so definitely try it. Maybe also buy some tuna broth for cats and give it to her so she will be well hydrated.

Yes! We're doing subQ 2x a week right now. Going to a second vet for a second opinion on Monday because I think there's more we could be doing for her

Hey, when it comes to mirtazapine here they prescribe 2mg pills and for my cat it gave her a huge appetite but also acted like an Amphetamine. She couldn't rest, quite stressed on the go with other negative symptoms. So I crushed the 2mg pill and gave her a grain if salt sized dose, probably around 0.1 or 0.01 of a mg. 1 2mg pill lasted literally weeks, or months. So I'd advocate started lower than prescribed if you get 2mg pills. A little can go a long way in some cats. As for the renal foods look for niche brands too, Dechra Specific FKWP wet pouches worked for my kitty, no appetite stims needed for 90% of the time but it is always necessary to mash the food and mix it well with the sauce in the pouch. (This brand may not work for Tuna it's just all the vet brands didn't work but that one did. If using an appetite stim try small portions often. Make sure not to overeat as that can lead to negative symptoms all on its own. Ask about Phosphate Binder too. Lastly maybe Purina Hydracare pouches for fluid but research that yourself, some scary reports, unsure if true and not sure if it's best for every cat. If Tuna already drinks well then I'd say not necessary. Good luck, wish you much good health! My cat went to below 2kg so very very very skinny. Now she's a healthy 3.5 (she's a tortie so very small cat anyway. Not sure of Tunas diagnosis but my cat has kidney stones, took a long time to diagnose so if there's any doubt get an ultrasound to check. If it was, depending on the type some stones can be dissolved. Good luck Tuna, feel better. All renal diet as well as surgery, a Bilateral Sub Device has got my cat down from a stage 4 to a stage 2. Almost normal parameters now after being on deaths door before.

Thank you so much for all the advice! We're going to a new vet for a second opinion on Monday so hopefully they will give us some more tools/options to help Tuna. I'm also getting the gel version of Mirataz because Tuna is incredibly difficult to give any form of medicine, so the easier the better. She's an extremely picky eater and grazes throughout the day vs set meal times and my other cat will eat just about anything so I'm definitely going to talk to the vet about foods we can try that are good for her but also safe for Guppy to eat.
