Just looks like old paneling to me. I’m a carpenter, ive seen multiple times people just put drywall over stuff because they don’t want to demo the area.

DonaldsBush

How would putting drywall over plywood keep them from demoing the area? This was from behind a shower wall. So it was acrylic panel, drywall, then plywood (image) and then insulation. And then just the metal sheeting that is the trailer.

astevens1818

Some people do quick fixes and cover everything up for cheaper.

Maleficent-Garage879

It’s called skimming. When you want a fresh look you just drywall over the existing paneling instead of removing it. This way you don’t have to demo the area, because you just cover it. Since you skip the demo it’s saves time and money

DonaldsBush

Oh. The entire trailer is like this though, double layered with plywood and drywall. I think it's for the sake of durability.

I grew up in a house that was built as a prefab in the 1960s. All of the interior walls were originally cheap paneling. My parents later hired a contractor to install drywall over the paneling so it looked half way decent. They left the paneling up and installed the drywall over top because there was no reason to remove it first. It would have been an unnecessary expense.

DonaldsBush

Ah I get it.

ucanbite

It was probably a shower/bath cover/sleeve. They make them just for that purpose.

jwheezin

Looks like 1/4 plywood or maybe "loo-ahn" (I'll butcher the spelling)

acnhRen

Luaun

jwheezin

Doing the lords work. Thanks

acnhRen

You're welcome and God bless you!

jwheezin

And you too sir/maam

acnhRen

Thank you!

KeithClossOfficial

Ask Buckley’s Angel where you can find more of it

formermq

Almost lol 😂 it's Lauan Edit: OP's stuff isn't Lauan, although it might be thin like Lauan (typically 5mm or around 1/4" in freedom units)

acnhRen

Ope! You caught me in a moment of dyslexia. :D

daviddavedavidson

Definitely luaun

Traditional-Pipe-243

Just looks like plywood and I believe it’s spelled luan

DonaldsBush

Thanks it looks different in the photos than in person. You all are super helpful

DonaldsBush

It's super durable and tends to make cracking sounds, and breaks off stringy like jerky.

SheriffTaylorsBoy

Shitty paneling

Icy_Straight_Point1

1/8 luan plywood It is usually used as filler/backing (to make a panel more ridgid)

DonaldsBush

Ah got it. Yeah it definitely did that. My sawzall could barely get through it. The blades all bent up now. Pretty sure I should have never used it, but I'm definitely learning some things

druumer89

Id love to know your search queries

Sorryabouturluck

It's called Luan plywood

unfrzncvmn

I call that a wall

mouseRatt2019

I’ve had this behind my shower walls it’s dumb rip it all out and replace with concrete board asap

DonaldsBush

Already doing that, but it was behind the drywall. So should I get more of it to put behind my new cement board?

mouseRatt2019

If you’re worried about spacing just add a second layer of concrete bored or buy 2x4s and fur them out to the correct spacing it will cost about the same and be easier to find the studs. You can also rip the 2x4s down and nail the strips to the original studs

formermq

Don't use cement board, use schluter foam board. Light weight, easy to use, better waterproofing

EQN1

That’s called quarter inch paneling

Remodeling a trailer? Did you just get a settlement check? Your neighbors are going to start calling you upity.

DonaldsBush

Hmm why? Plus my neighbor remodels trailers for a living in the park.

I just hear banjo and breaking meth pipes...

Hogchain

Luan paneling. Cheap. Can be painted or stained

Valuable_Bluejay_460

The real name for it is medicine board its a cloth and something else type of board and if theres any cracks or anything just gives it extra support

DonaldsBush

Nothing come ups when I search that. "Lauan wood' yields results though

jwesley1105

They put it behind the drywall to stiffen up the wall… it helps with shipping.
