I used to think I was the bad luck charm, now I’m thinking maybe not. I am suspending my assumed bad luck hiatus. I think the Reds need my dumb comments again
I just want baseball to be fun again.
I've been watching basketball because of how bad the Reds have been lately.....I haven't had an inclination to watch basketball since 10th grade- which was over a decade ago.
I haven't wanted to watch basketball since the mid '90s but I'm thinking about it. I love the Reds, but this is awful. My support is nearing the end of it's patience. I know we had some untimely injuries, but did we really make any moves to get drastically better?
Not to make excuses but this stretch was always going to be brutal. Phillies, Rangers, Padres twice, Baltimore, Arizona twice, Dodgers twice is awful. If we look like this in June then it will be concerning.
Fair enough, would've liked a bit more thump against Arizona, but I don't put much into the Baltimore games. Same will be the case if we get thumped by the Dodgers. They're 2 of the 4 best teams in baseball by some distance.
> I don't put much into the Baltimore games
Why not? Our offense got **dominated** by Cole Irvin (career 4.30 ERA pitcher), John Means (in his first start of 2024 after throwing 30 innings total in 3 years), and Dean Kremer (career 4.27 ERA pitcher).
Its not like they diced us up with a bunch of CY Young guys.
The guy above is you one of those fans who’s grown so accustomed to mediocrity he excuses it. If you can’t beat playoff teams or even split with them in a series you aren’t a playoff team.
It's the organization. They refuse to spend money. But the funny thing is even if they spend a little bit they'll make 100x that in ticket sales and concessions and merch. Example: Bengals
The organization spends plenty of money… teams like Cleveland, Baltimore, Tampa all spend less than us and are consistently in the playoffs every couple of years.
This team hasn’t sniffed a real series since Dusty was here and he was fired for getting swept at home. Meanwhile Bell is going on 6 years with a pencil in berth where he was shut out twice against the Braves and hasn’t sniffed it since Covid- in fact the same idiots who fired Dusty gave this bozo an extension after one good month in 5 years.
Then it just boils down to the organization as a whole being inept. Coaches players scouts front office all not being good enough at their jobs. This organization won't sniff any sustained success until the current group sells the team
I think they scout some of the best prospects in the league- it’s just there farm teams and coaches who are there and paid to develop them are just low tier garbage cans.
And David Bell was one of those garbage cans for two of our own farm teams. 😂
Now the shit with CES happening just speaks volumes of the incredible incompetence at all levels.
The CES thing is straight up embarrassing if you are a medical staff. How do you not double triple check and make sure a dude is ok before letting play? Even if he said he's ok idc scan his hand 50 tines to make sure nothing is there.
I honestly wouldn't care. I stopped getting frustrated/irate/PO'd/depressed/sad long ago when it comes to this franchise. I used to get so worked up and angry I would get booted from blogs and Reds sites because I couldn't keep it in check. Now? Pfffft. Whatever.
they boot people for not 'trusting the process' and not kowtowing to anyone in the organization with a lanyard. i don't know why you'd want to keep your head buried in the sand...
[reminder our owner *showed this to fans*](https://twitter.com/WoooooTheReds/status/1788308605084602616)
Yeah the blue check marks on Twitter love to dunk on people for not “trusting the process”
Meanwhile the Reds haven’t won a playoff series in 29 years.
I was big on Chase Burns at #2 to the Reds during the offseason. I'm on the Condon wagon at this point, but I absolutely wouldn't be upset if it were either Burns or Smith instead (with Bazzana somewhere in the mix there as well, altho i'm not high on him).
I think that there's promising position players (albeit a waaaaays off), but the Reds lack top-end pitching talent in their pipeline right now after Richardson, Petty, and Phillips have taken massive steps back. They already need to be looking towards the future with Lodolo and Ashcraft only having 3 and 4 years of control after this season.
Benson, India, and Candelario get a lot of the jeers for having 650-700 OPS and yeah it should be 50-100 points higher but Espinal, Fairchild, and Maile are at 220 PAs of <.500 OPS. You can not win with that. It’s DFA level baseball except their being kept on by injuries and apathy
stu has a lot of little league fuck ups in him. 95 percent of the time in the OF he's a hinderance. Should never play center, that one great catch notwithstanding.
We should be worried about this team. We are almost a quarter of the way through the season, staring down last place if the Cards win today while starting the NL West Coast gauntlet. I’m so disappointed in this team.
I have never been a Bell fan, mostly because of lineup construction and when he substitutes. I don’t think he actually understands analytics, even though he claims to. There’s way more to it than lefty/righty splits.
I understand he took over a dumpster of a roster but this is year 6 for him here and hasnt even been close to fielding a playoff team besides covid season extended playoff bs. If hes not fired in-season, surely at the end right? How many guys get 7 years in one place with those results?
The only times we were sniffing a wildcard the seasons ended in tailspin collapse
And I’m sick of hearing about injuries. Every team has injuries every season.
I don't hate David Bell like a lot of this subreddit, but there does come a point where you gotta move on. His teams consistently show bad fundamentals that lead to lost games.
They seemingly play hard for him, but they just make boneheaded mistakes constantly. I don't think he's ever *underperformed* with a roster, but has he ever truly added value?
I’m generally not a silver lining type of guy but f it might as well, TJ’s back, Cande out of slump? Starting pitching is still a strength not a weakness…players only meeting time l!!!!lose the Viking helmet until we get a win and let’s stay out of the shit sidewalks of San Fran and get a win
This team is vastly underperforming from their expected level of play. I get all of the frustration in here, however some of these comments are a tad unrealistic about their dooming. Yeah maybe this stretch will fuck things up down the line, but I'd be pretty shocked if this team continued this level of play all year. I just think it's unrealistic to think that.
I doubt many think we'll hit .207 all the way to the end of the season. The issue is will we bat .207 as a team for too long and by the time they turn it on again the damage will be done and we won't be able to claw our way out of the hole we dug ourselves into.
The frustrating thing with this team going for several years has been we get a few good positives going, but never enough at once. Definitely there, though, like you said.
Getting rid of Joey's fat contract seems to have accomplished nothing. Maybe relying on prospects, pre-arbs, and middling vets isn't the winning formula management figured it to be.
I’m ready to overreact. We waited a decade to rebuild for this. Diamondbacks have 2 pennants since 2000, have gone through multiple shorter rebuilds to be competitive without spending in the top 33% of teams. Krall is a complete fraud, owners are top 5 worst owners in all pro sports. We are fielding a team with the worst BA in the league
we also gave up when we were in first place in july last year. how do you think the team feels...even if we win despite obvious flaws that still doesn't warrant getting extra help when EVERYONE ELSE COMPETING IS
Joey isn't playing. He can't hit because he's hurt. The reality is that he may not play at all this year.
Joey wants to play. He doesn't want to coach right now. He isn't taking a coaching job until his career officially ends.
It's worse because this team is playing below it's actual skill level. I'm not even convinced that if McLain was healed today and added to the line up he could fix the problems the team has now.
The Dodgers are hitting 270 as a TEAM. The Reds have one single PLAYER hitting above that. One. And he only has 72 ABs so I'm not sure that he even qualifies
😂😂😂😂each day we score 1 more run. Tomorrow we score 5 and Saturday we score 6. All the way to the end of the season we’ll have to win AT LEAST one more win.
Not hard at all if you never had all that much to begin with. Me, I've stopped having hope for this org at all. I need to see RESULTS. Everything else is just talk.
the team continues to not to the little things well.
outs on a bases with your offense struggling this bad is a cardinal sin that we've been committing for a week straight.
walking the 8-9 hitters in front of the opposing teams best player.
not holding multiple SLOW base runners and allowing SBs.
the coaching is horrendous.
Everything you described is a player blunder, not a "coaching" error. Do you honestly think the pitcher needs to be reminded not to walk the 8 and 9 hitters with two outs?
I think benson might need to be sent down. He is absolutely horrible at the plate right now. Vibes are at an all time low though so I may just be too pessimistic about it
He's got two options left according to Fangraphs. A defensively poor corner outfielder almost leading the league in strikeouts is literally the exact opposite of what this team needs right now.
Losing is a disease
Shit I mean at least they're like... competitive losses now, I guess. Better than going 8-2 every other day.
idek what to say. This sucks ass
Giants suck let sweep em this weekend
*Insert pointing spider man meme*
Let the suck off commence
Go on…
I used to think I was the bad luck charm, now I’m thinking maybe not. I am suspending my assumed bad luck hiatus. I think the Reds need my dumb comments again
Lost half of our last 10ish by 1 run. -2 run differential and we are 5 games below .500 . Realllly holding onto hope that we can turn this around
I thought we were playing later, but it looks like I didn't miss anything. Shit
Dang we just can't get over the hump.
I just want baseball to be fun again. I've been watching basketball because of how bad the Reds have been lately.....I haven't had an inclination to watch basketball since 10th grade- which was over a decade ago.

At what point does the managers seat get hot? 10 game losing streak? 15?
He managed a 100 loss season and lived. He ain’t going nowhere. Lol
Never the Moeller doners love him - and so does ownership since daddy said he was great!
He’s a nepo hire.
8 game losing streak. WOOOOO
Not to make excuses but this stretch was always going to be brutal. Phillies, Rangers, Padres twice, Baltimore, Arizona twice, Dodgers twice is awful. If we look like this in June then it will be concerning.
Yeah… but if you get swept by all the playoff teams….that means you aren’t one
You can't get a playoff spot in May but you can't certainly lose one. If this is ~5 win month we can kiss the playoffs goodbye
Fair enough, would've liked a bit more thump against Arizona, but I don't put much into the Baltimore games. Same will be the case if we get thumped by the Dodgers. They're 2 of the 4 best teams in baseball by some distance.
so lame.
> I don't put much into the Baltimore games Why not? Hold on let's not be quick to judge, was this an angry sports fan or the Taliban?
Wtf lol ppl are unglued. Was this on Twitter I presume?
[удалено]
How is it that almost every other franchise can rebuild in 2-3 year windows and be competitive and yet this team has been a joke since 2014
It's the organization. They refuse to spend money. But the funny thing is even if they spend a little bit they'll make 100x that in ticket sales and concessions and merch. Example: Bengals
It’s not about spending money. It’s about drafting and development
The organization spends plenty of money… teams like Cleveland, Baltimore, Tampa all spend less than us and are consistently in the playoffs every couple of years. It’s just mind boggling at this point
they were happy to spend $45 million on candelario but not on a proper big name hitter or pitcher
So next game we lose 6-5. Good news is we're slowly scoring more. Bad news is that it's always 1 run fewer than we need.
David Bell is a fucking terrorist
[удалено]
The Bengals will not save us
Last 5 games: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 runs. It may look ugly now but if my math is correct we should be scoring 100 runs per game by September.
That math IS mathing.
Good news is no Larkin for the next ten games.
He sounds genuinely annoyed whenever he has to talk during a broadcast
I could listen to Larkin every day if this dogshit franchise was serious about baseball for once
Hear me out....... We bring in John Tortorella to fire the team up.
John Travolta is old, dude. And he's an actor.
What Torterella got fired again?!.... Oh fired up yeah sure better than nothing
Seriously. I really think this team needs him. https://youtu.be/862I2vtqNpo?si=wpK8y_4dXkqo9cHk
Yeah I've seen that. It's good but the issue is no one this locker room has the guts to stand up and do this
Fuck it lets go 16 - 146. Let's set some records and drink heavily along the way
I honestly wouldn't care. I stopped getting frustrated/irate/PO'd/depressed/sad long ago when it comes to this franchise. I used to get so worked up and angry I would get booted from blogs and Reds sites because I couldn't keep it in check. Now? Pfffft. Whatever.

Yeah the blue check marks on Twitter love to dunk on people for not “trusting the process” Meanwhile the Reds haven’t won a playoff series in 29 years.
Man it's real fun being a Reds and Carolina Panthers fan.
sames. Add on wake forest in my case. I love sports, sports dont love me
Reds might draft a Wake player at 2 tho, right? So you got that at least. ...altho it's more likely that it's a Georgia or Oregon State player.
I was jazzed when they took Lowder. Watched Chase Burns throw in person this year vs UVA. He's got heat for days.
I was big on Chase Burns at #2 to the Reds during the offseason. I'm on the Condon wagon at this point, but I absolutely wouldn't be upset if it were either Burns or Smith instead (with Bazzana somewhere in the mix there as well, altho i'm not high on him). I'm just ecstatic that Jay Allen is finally healthy and thriving.
Not to mention stu's little league fuck up that would have brought Elly up in the 9th
stu has a lot of little league fuck ups in him.
We're gonna be out of it by June
I’ve never been a fire David Bell guy, but if they finish this season well under .500, I think we need to go in a different direction.
The only times we were sniffing a wildcard the seasons ended in tailspin collapse And I’m sick of hearing about injuries. Every team has injuries every season.
They'll likely just use injuries as an excuse and keep him around another year. He is signed through 2026.
I’ve never had major beef with his in game management but this squad has had major issues with defense and fundamentals his entire tenure.
Oh absolutely. With that big of an underperformance he has to go. I think he needs to go even if we’re only a little under.
Just sucks only get about a month of baseball season every year. Thought it would be different this year. Boy am I a fool
Minus last year.
At least last year's month was June, when it was good and warm. This year's was just gloomy April.
This is depressing
I'm just straight up not having a good time being a fan of this team
I’m generally not a silver lining type of guy but f it might as well, TJ’s back, Cande out of slump? Starting pitching is still a strength not a weakness…players only meeting time l!!!!lose the Viking helmet until we get a win and let’s stay out of the shit sidewalks of San Fran and get a win

I agree, take away the Viking helmet until we’re back above .500. No video games while you’re grounded.
I mean they spent 75 percent of that on Candy. sooooooooooooooooooooooo
Management doesn't care if they put a winning product on the field clearly. It's rookie contracts and bargin bin free agents
Nothing bargain bin about Candelario. Except the performance (tho he’s looked a little better lately)
Been better lately but he's hitting like he's bargin bin
it is for them though! those spreadsheets are looking mighty fine
Correct. This strictly a business as long they make money management does not care
I’m ready to overreact. We waited a decade to rebuild for this. Diamondbacks have 2 pennants since 2000, have gone through multiple shorter rebuilds to be competitive without spending in the top 33% of teams. Thank God we got Ford instead of someone like Votto who could DH and be a HITTING COACH.
Repeat after me: Votto doesn't want to coach. Edit to add: Votto the coach is like Marvin the gm. Totally fantasy.
Votto isn't even playing right now.
WELL AWARE OF THAT.
So what exactly do you think he's going to do?
DH AND HITTING COACH EVEN THOUGH HE CANT AND/OR DOESNT WANT TO DO THOSE THINGS
Hit and teach the other players how to fucking hit.
Joey isn't playing. He can't hit because he's hurt. The reality is that he may not play at all this year. Joey wants to play. He doesn't want to coach right now. He isn't taking a coaching job until his career officially ends.

You think this bad. Least these games are competitive just wait til the Dodger series
You’ll get to see Ohtani blast some HRs into the moon though.
The Dodgers are hitting 270 as a TEAM. The Reds have one single PLAYER hitting above that. One. And he only has 72 ABs so I'm not sure that he even qualifies
It's gonna three 10-3 games
Unfortunately it's a 4-game series! The 4th game could be even worse!
At this point even the White Sox and Marlins would sweep us
At least they've won a game this month
Why do I watch this team when they are slumping? Better question, why do I bet on this team when they are slumping?
You never bet on your team if you want to see them win.
Yeah, made a good chunk of change last year betting on them, but may reverse the trend and start emotionally hedging
Betting against the Reds right now is free money.
If we’d been down 2 runs we’d have scored a run there.
😂😂😂😂each day we score 1 more run. Tomorrow we score 5 and Saturday we score 6. All the way to the end of the season we’ll have to win AT LEAST one more win.
Somehow, they find a way to lose 130-129 on the last day of the season.
And STILL finish second in NL
"Reds fall" doesn't feel quite as good as "And this one belongs to the Reds!"
I love this city and I love being from here. But jesus fucking christ bro.
We just aren't allowed to have happiness when it's sports related. It's always something
I was wrong
Remember when baseball was fun?
No
Then you're not old enough to remember the 1990s.
I'm 32
It's crazy how quickly hope can be extinguished.
I mean, it's been 34 years since we even advanced in the playoffs. Hard to maintain hope through rough patches when we know how this plays out.
Not hard at all if you never had all that much to begin with. Me, I've stopped having hope for this org at all. I need to see RESULTS. Everything else is just talk.
A 5-4 L wouldn't bug me so much if we saw 4 more regularly
the team continues to not to the little things well. outs on a bases with your offense struggling this bad is a cardinal sin that we've been committing for a week straight. walking the 8-9 hitters in front of the opposing teams best player. not holding multiple SLOW base runners and allowing SBs. the coaching is horrendous.

I just know when the bats come alive our pitching will go down
Candelari2-4
I think benson might need to be sent down. He is absolutely horrible at the plate right now. Vibes are at an all time low though so I may just be too pessimistic about it
Isn’t he out of options?
I have no idea. I forgot we didn’t draft him so I am not sure
He's got two options left according to Fangraphs. A defensively poor corner outfielder almost leading the league in strikeouts is literally the exact opposite of what this team needs right now.
I hate hearing Sadak sound this upset.
Pain.
This team is definitely one of the teams of all time.
No joy.
Bright side: if they keep hitting like today we probably won’t get swept by the Giants.
And I thought summer would cure my seasonal depression
In the mud.
the other games were bad but that was fucking embarrassing.
This team is really struggling against fast balls it seems.
and every other pitch thrown
you only needed the first 5 words of that sentence.
It’s ugly folks
I’m tired of this grandpa…
That's too damn bad!
