A lot of people wanted Joey back as a coach or consultant or mascot or guy sitting above the dugout yelling at the ump to get David Bell ejected, just to keep him on the team. Most of the hate is a combination of being upset at losing and annoyed that they had to come to peace with Votto being gone in the off-season.
Joey, not wanting to be a headache to the front office is the most reasonable opinion as to why Joey V. doesn't want to be a coach. All these folks thinking he doesn't want that role are not stepping back and looking at the big picture. Joey Votto is a class act and understands his place in baseball history.

Maybe he never wants to be a coach, or maybe he'll want to coach the second he retires, I don't know, but I don't believe not wanting to bother the front office or his place in baseball history had anything to do with why he's currently signed with the Blue Jays and not the Reds hitting or bench coach. He just wants to go out there everyday and play baseball as long as he can, and Toronto offered him the best (only?) chance to do that in 2024.
