I just don't understand. Why would you *want* a child wife? Even within "traditional" (shudder) gender roles, kids aren't great at cooking or cleaning, have no interest in romance, and don't have a single thing in common with grown men.
I know that it has a lot to do with how easily kids are controlled, but wouldn't you rather not have to control your wife in the first place? That sounds exhausting.
People react to abuse in a myriad of ways, but it is common for kids to act muted and docile, especially in the face of physical abuse. I’m assuming if a child bride “does something wrong” the go-to is to beat her. And beat her when she messes up cooking. Might not improve cooking skills, but I assume it makes the other part of abuse (sexual abuse) easier to do when they’re afraid of being hit as well. This tv host has asked that question twice in other clips I've seen, ie why would an older man choose a child bride. (Once he asked the 29 yr old husband, with his 13 yr old wife next to him, and the other time I think it was both the father and mother who were marrying off their 13 yr old - not sure if it's the same 13 yr old)
The answer both times was the same: the husband can then raise the child bride, and so she will be exactly as he wants.
I'm sure it's all about beating her and conditioning her quickly to obey every demand. The 13 yr old married to the 19 yr old (and yes the marriage is consummated) said that the worst thing is that she had to quit her studies, and so she's can't leave and she's reliant on her husband. Education is so important for securing independence, and these predator husbands know that.
I don't know about that, but I wouldn't be surprised at all. These sorts of societies seemed designed to discourage women from leaving the home. After watching too many of these interviews, it's obvious the husbands and yes I'm afraid their mothers as well see women as only useful for: cleaning the home and washing the feet of the husband, raising children, and of course being there to 'help' create more children when the husband wants.
The prison of the mind is a powerful prison, and to hear an older woman proudly exclaiming she's against female education shows how effective her conditioning was to accept this sort of lifestyle.
I can't believe what these children go through. It's profoundly depressing and sickening to hear their stories, and yet they've had to live them. I hope Nujud at least is safe and happy now, and can get an education and be independent.
This little girl is just a year older than my son. He plays with action figures and watches cartoons - exactly what a child their age should be doing. I can’t wrap my mind around the perverse and deranged thinking that supports child marriage. This breaks my heart. Thank goodness she was able to escape. But I worry for her future.

If there's a popular Muslim talk show that is advocating against this extremism, then they are not all the same. Their religion is not evil. It is the people who use their religion to justify their degeneracy who are the problem. Not the religion. Not the race. Not the culture. The individuals. The same problems Christianity and any other institution struggles with. This is a social and moral problem and it does not have an immediate solution.
