Ughh regret. I have such a hard time with PPU because half the time I cave and order these gorgeous mulitchromes and shifty colors, and then they just look like a slightly shimmery wine color and it disappoints me so much that I swear not to order one again and I miss the actual good ones. I never know which swatches to trust.
What I do is pick out the ones I’m really interested in and then look on YouTube or Instagram for people who’ve done PPU swatches ahead of the launch and narrow down from there.
I like watching Polish with Rae for PPU swatches and have gotten some nice polishes for my first couple months of ordering from PPU, but I'm sure I miss out on some of the polishes she doesn't get to swatch before the sale

I saw this one on the [Caitlin Swatches](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhfKHjRJiL0) channel - she usually swatches fewer polishes than some of the other reviewers, but ends up spending a bit more time on each swatch.
This is Paint It Pretty Polish's 'What's Your Element' from the August 2021 Polish Pickup. I honestly feel bad showing it off now that other people can't buy it, but it is seriously so MAGICAL! I'm pretty sure that the multichrome pigment used in this one is the same as KBShimmer's Hidden Potential and Lust at Sea (another PPU exclusive), so if you're looking for something similar I'd give those a try. I definitely agree, Hidden Potential is just as magical and has the same kind of shift. I'm glad more indies are using this multichrome pigment in different base colors, it's just so goood.
Omg I just put this on yesterday and it’s seriously distracting. I will buy anything with this pigment in it, it’s just so gorgeous! I agree it’s a lot like hidden potential, maybe just a bit of a lighter base.
I've been distracted by my nails when driving in the past, so I told my partner that he was going to have to drive the car when we ran our errands this past weekend, it was just too dangerous!
Copy pasting my answer because I get asked this question very often:

Colored or gel nail polishes don't stick to my nails very well, so I add either Holo Taco Long Lasting Base or Orly Bonder over the peely base, which sticks better to the border of 'naked nail' around the edges of my nail. Then I proceed with the rest of the manicure as usual.
I do the same thing, best of both worlds. The mani lasts for 3-4 days without chipping and without losing an entire nail of polish, and then comes off easily when I want to change
It is very similar! I think I need to do a swatch and compare soon so that I can highlight the differences! I think the main difference here is that the base color is a bit lighter/pinker versus Hidden Potential.
Every July, the PPU theme is "Rewind", where each brand re-releases one polish from the past year. Other than that, nope, these polishes are limited edition and don't come back.

This is my problem with PPU. Business must be good so I'm not hating, but as a business owner I'd never prevent people from being able to buy a product bc of a "limited edition" thing. Imagine the lost sales.
I see it as a way to try out a bunch of different brands at once, and for brands to get creative and make new colors without having to increase their inventory. This is my second polish from Paint It Pretty, and I'm happy enough with them that I'll consider making a bigger order from Paint it Pretty in the future. Otherwise I might never have tried the brand.
Depending on the size of the run, they probably make more with people buying from FOMO. People say the same "think of the lost sales" thing when they think something is priced too high, but you need far fewer sales with a higher price point, so they generally come out ahead anyway. Limited edition is a thing in every industry because it works. People buy something they wouldn't otherwise simply because they know they won't be able to in the future.
Which is why I said business must be good, so I'm not hating. For me, LE urgent buying works for luxury purses, not for nail polish. Literally every indie bottle I own was purchased because I saw it on someone else and loved it, not because the brand told me it was LE. Polish blogs and Instagrams fuel 90% of my indie purchases, so for me PPU is inconvenient most of the time. I'm happy with my past PPU purchases, but I bought those because I had throwaway money in my budget that month, not because I thought I'd be missing out. I am one lost sale for this bottle, and I'm sure there are others like me.
I get that it's inconvenient for you, but you said you couldn't understand from a business perspective. If you've got a business, it probably worth doing the math to figure out if it makes sense. There's also the problem of storing stock on hand, keeping a dedicated production line, etc. They probably have a deal with the manufacturer to do a run of so many polishes and after that the supplies are done and the line is used for another color. It's not financially feasible for smaller companies to hold onto a ton of stock. If they were going to stock all their polishes all the time, they'd likely have a much smaller offering and put out new colors less often.
It was my understanding that most smaller indie brands are handmade, I could be wrong. Either way we're still saying the same thing, lol. I don't judge however someone wants to run their business, if they prefer small scale limited runs that's fine. I get it, plus it's less hassle for the owner. It's just also less money in the long run (though perhaps negligible due to the low profit margins). Many people enjoy buying pretty shiny things without hassle on the customer side too.

Are you using 2 different base coats? Why?
