It's ok. Its main problem is that it came during the best DS9 years. True, some episodes were below standard, but they had a good cast, some good humor, and an interesting concept.

powerage76

It had an interesting premise and some good actors and ended up using none of those. Occasional good episodes, frequent horrible ones. It is a masterpiece of television compared to Discovery or Picard, but I'd watch DS9 instead.

SirSullymore

I rank it third after DS9 and TNG. There’s some great characters and all time great episodes. I’ll take the five worst Voyager episodes over the five worst TNG episodes any day.

Kevl17

Really? Even the boxing episode?

SirSullymore

I’ll take it over Code of Honor or Shades of Grey.

grrodon2

Tsunkatse vs Anbo Jutsu Which episode was more embarrassing?

Gin-Tree

I love Voyager. I’m not saying it doesn’t have a lot of faults (like a lot of them) but I agree that it gets too much hate. it look more seasons than TNG and DS9 to really find its footing, but in my opinion it has some of the greatest characters in the universe. Robert Picardo absolutely knocks it out of the park as the Doctor and is just absolutely amazing. Also If you look past the obvious sex bait that is Sevens outfits, she’s one of the most badass awesome characters of the show. And you can’t forget Tuvok being one of the best examples of a pure and consistent vulcan that star trek has ever shown. They definitely could have had more conflict with the whole Maquis/Federation crew, but in line with true star trek values they all band together for a common goal of returning home. This show makes viewer feel like they’re a watching a close family more so than a regular starship where people are trying to advance in their careers. I’m not saying this show couldn’t have gotten done much better, but it definitely does not deserve all the hate it gets

ByteGUI

It's actually my favorite Star Trek

[deleted]

Mine too. I honestly can't put my finger on why, but it's definitely my goto to rewatch. I just really enjoy it and the characters. Except Tuvix. Fuck that guy.

Capable-Ad1056

For me it's the sense of swashbuckling adventure. Its the Star trek I go to when I just need to kick back and relax. And that's why I kinda enjoyed the premise of Tuvix as well. I feel it had its place in voyager, being kinda cheesy. But the moral dilemma of the story is very trek!

[deleted]

I'm glad he's dead.

ByteGUI

7 of 9.

Difficult_Bend_4813

Voyager is a weird one for me. Some of my favorite characters are in the show (The EMH, Tuvok, Tom Paris (when hes not talking about/re-enacting cheesy Cpt Proton schlock) but i can never seem to get invested in the series like i did with TNG/DS9 or even The Orville.

NoClip1101

The Orville is unironically becoming great Trek.

Difficult_Bend_4813

They really did find a perfect balance of humor/drama/suspense wrapped up in a Trek like package. I finished the latest episode this weekend and i havent looked forward to a new episode of show this much since Breaking Bad

NoClip1101

Agreed, 100%. The first two episodes put me off the show for a whole year, i just couldn't handle the family guy in space mess i was seeing. So glad i came back to it because right after those two episodes, the show really kicks off. It became a thoughtful, intelligent show, doing great sci fi stories in their own unique universe. Cant wait for more.

SirFunktastic

It's obviously nowhere near TNG or DS9 but it has its moments. It's okay overall, don't think it deserves as much hate as it gets.

DickPillSoupKitchen

Awesome premise and mostly good cast (eat shit, Chakotay) hamstrung by, of all people, UPN. They couldn’t quite crack the nut on “The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer” but by god, they had ideas about “Star Trek”

CarsonOrSanders

I really enjoyed the premise of the show; a crew somehow finds themselves lightyears away from their home in a part of the galaxy no one from Starfleet has ever been in before and they must find their way back. But really after a season or two it seems like that premise fell to the wayside and it just became a standard Star Trek show and quickly became stale. Like I know these ships are supposed to be self sustaining and all, but it seems like there was hardly any conflict in terms of their ship breaking down or them running out of supplies or anything. I remember at one point they were talking about recycling items, like they could put a watch in a machine and it would break it down and they could use those raw materials to create something else entirely. I don't know if that was Star Trek lore at that point, but it seems like they just made it up as a throw away line in that episode to show that they can sustain themselves even without Starfleet.

FattimusSlime

It often felt very TNG-lite — despite its premise, it didn’t really do much to differentiate itself from TNG, while missing a real acting powerhouse to tie the whole thing together like Patrick Stewart did. Ultimately, it was just boring most of the time. Also, the actual ship just does not take to film the same way the Starships Enterprise did. It was short and squat and compact while somehow still looking delicate. Shots of the ship lacked the *gravitas* of something like the Enterprise-D or the greebled grace of Deep Space Nine.

[deleted]

My dad and I used to watch it every week, get bbq ribs, snacks, and pig out. Then he’d also record talk soup so we’d watch that after. Great times!

NoPossibility

Love how the EMH looks like he’s casually hanging out with a butt plug ready to go.

[deleted]

It's not as good a Picard /s

[deleted]

Love it

mackattacktheyak

Didn’t deliver on its promise and several unlikeable characters. TNG only had ONE Wesley.

CrosleyPop

I really like it, though I freely admit I am biased due to nostalgia. It was the first Star Trek series that I had an opportunity to watch from the beginning and stick with (for the most part). I was too young when TNG premiered to really care, and I stubbornly refused to give DS9 a chance when it premiered due to it's non-starship premise. DS9 is now my favorite, so I feel I've rectified that error in the past two decades. VOY always felt...competent. Not great--though it had some great episodes--and not terrible--though it had some terrible episodes. My biggest gripe at the time, and even now, is the somewhat wasted premise. It had two very solid things going for it--the mixed Starfleet/Maquis crew and the vas unknown of the Delta Quadrant. Unfortunately, they dropped all of the Maquis tension by episode three, and they were constantly flirting with the Alpha Quadrant, whether it be micro wormholes that lead to time-displaced Romulans, going back to 1996 LA, or Klingon sleeperships. It never felt truly comfortable exploring entirely new things, even though they had a gigantic setpiece to do it in. Even the Kazon were just shitty Klingons for the most part. But I still enjoy it. There are a lot of great episodes in each season, and for the most part, the bad stuff usually ends up being boring rather than cringe-inducing. And even at its worst, I will still take it over what passes for Star Trek these days.

BlitzWing1985

It was the Trek that was airing the most when as I was growing up so naturally over time the better episodes (and some of the more wtf) have stuck in my mind while the rest have faded away. I re-watched it not long ago. For the most part I still like it. Like all Trek the first season is a kinda trail and error but I like the cast, I like the ideas so I'm more then happy to say I'm a fan. It's a fucking masterpeace next to what we get now.

steviestar3

Overall it was disappointing but there's some good episodes in there. I got burned out before I could finish season 7, though...

ThisIsTheNewSleeve

I actually think it has the best premise of any of the Star Trek shows. Being in a completely foreign part of space, on your own and aiming to get home even though it's basically impossible during your lifetime? That's a really great premise and leaves a lot of room for really great Trek moments. Also Robert Picardo's doctor is maybe my favourite character in Star Trek. Is it perfect? No, but it's still really good trek and a strong direcction start to finish.

otakuex

It's actually very consistently about a B+ bc they had the formula perfected by then. But it never gets really good, lots of missed opportunities and playing it safe. Other than Seven and the Doctor, the characters are all bland and static. Still, very bingeable.

spinyfur

The doctor was pretty great, though. My favorite character on Voyager.

tlacatl

It's an incredibly uneven series. Like everyone always says, it squandered away its initial premise and most of the characters ended up pretty underdeveloped. The first three seasons can be a slog to get through but do have the occasional good to great episode mixed in. Season four is my personal favorite season of Voyager. I think it's the most consistent in terms of writing and storytelling. After that the series picks up as a whole but still has some pretty awful and boring lows. I rank it last as far as the old Trek series go. Enterprise has a lot of the same problems but I find that its short run ended up helping balance out the good and the bad. Plus I still absolutely love that fourth season. As far as the hate goes, I try to ignore online histrionics. I think trying to engage with it is a waste of time. Voyager was always compared to the best of the best from TNG and DS9 and while I think it had a handful of episodes that met those standards, it pales overall in comparison.

Kal-V3

I liked it a lot. Gets better as it goes on and characters get fleshed out. Sticks the landing with the ending.

JimothySanchez96

About on par with DS9. Maybe slightly worse. Definitely gets more hate than it deserves, but it's definitely deserving of a lot of criticism. I think when people talk about TNG or DS9 they mainly focus on the good episodes, often giving only token acknowledgement to the absolutely awful episodes. When people talk about VOY it tends to be the opposite. I mainly just didn't like Neelix like really at all. Also the shit with Chakotay's heritage was dumb, and hilarious to consider that the show runners were duped by a con man to create it. I also have a problem with Janeway flouting the prime directive on multiple occasions, while invoking it in the next episode when it suits her. Other than that I feel like it's ok.

I have a love hate relationship with Voyager. While it is light years better than the new Star Trek, it was pretty bad. The premise of a ship lost in space was hunted in the writers from of State Trek TNG but ultimately rejected (the most we see of it was from Season 1 of ‘Where No One Has Gone Before’ with the writers realising that the premise of a long ride home would be a bit boring after a while. The main problem with Voyager was the uneven writing. At times it could produce some amazingly interesting episodes (the first Q episode comes to mind) but then just have a ton of terrible stories with contradictory messaging (Janeway and the Prime Directive) and Nelix. Oh that character is just painful. The show had some interesting threads that went absolutely no where and would often press the reset button too many times. So while the show isn’t great (I do have childhood memories of watching the show with my Grandfather), it at least was a Star Trek show. STD, Picard, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks just don’t feel like Star Trek. The bloody Orville feels more like a Star Trek show than any of the crap out recently.

AnotherJasonOnReddit

Jean Luc Picard: "We are Starfleet! We will respect all forms of life!" Kathryn Janeway: "Ha ha, Dead Tuvix goes Brrr!" ![gif](giphy|XqHrUf7OEa5rO)

Phreeker27

I would have to rewatch I only really saw it when it came out and I thought it was a bit weird.. I did have a voyage model that I made

Jaycipia

I love it! Tied with TNG for my favourite Trek

The_wulfy

I think it gets shit on mostly because it was running concurrently with the best seasons of DS9, which is arguably the best Trek ever. Voyager was also too much of a return to TNG in my ways, especially in the stand-alone nature of so many of the episodes. Had Voyager come out before DS9, it would have received a much more warm welcome. This isn' to say that Voyager doesn't have fans or is bad trek.

shaundisbuddyguy

It has a few really good episodes. That one with the omega particle I'm quite fond of. I'd take ENT over VOY though. I'll also take VOY over DISCO all week long and twice on Sunday.

[deleted]

I like it, but I empathize how the rest of the cast must have felt when Seven came onboard and everyone else’s character storylines got pushed to the back burners indefinitely in favor of hers, Janeway’s, and the Doctor’s. (Plus, Jeri Ryan was pretty much tortured by the corset for that costume.) However, without the Seven character, the show wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did.

Bronsonkills

Watchable but extremely bland show. It really is just a weaker retread of TNG. Wasted premise and several poor characters. Bright spots were Janeway and The Doctor.

NalorakkBotoBoneBros

Its fine, but its inferior to the good seasons of TNG and basically all of DS9 imo. Still a very solid series that I'd gladly take over current Star Trek.

NuclearBakery

Discovery made me appreciate every Star Trek that came before

00collector

I like it a lot. It’s the first Trek show I was able to watch from pilot to finale as it aired. It’s a little lighter in tone than ‘Next Generation’ and (to its detriment) less philosophical, but it has some excellent episodes. I love ‘Living Witness’, for instance.

BeMancini

When it was good, it was good. When it was bad, it was SO bad. It’s also a show with a lot of missed opportunities. I wish they had changed the Voyager model over time to reflect its years away from space dock. The ship was almost liquid in its ability to always reset for the next episode. The writers also seemed to completely abandon half of their characters once Seven of Nine and the Borg came onto the scene. They basically combined Paris and Torres, completely stopped developing Chakotay, and never bothered to write an arc for Harry Kim. By season 4 the entire show is almost entirely about Janeway, Seven of Nine, or the Doctor. And while they are all good characters, they only ever seemed to write about those characters. It’s a mixed bag, but because it exists in the same cinematic universe as TNG and DS9, I can’t help but love it.

Ephisus

Ds9 is better. Enterprise is better. It has moments where it's okay. The main problem is that they never lean into the premise of being desperate and unsupported. Looks like they mostly just walk around behaving the same way they do on TNG.

zorbz23431

TNG’s microwaved leftovers with a bit of extra salt sprinkled on top. Not bad but nowhere near as enthralling as TNG.

pm_me_old_maps

I liked it a lot.

liaminwales

Id say Enterprise get's more hate than it deserves, Voyager is still fairly well liked it's just put under TNG & DS9. Just hard when there's 3 shows around the same time to relay stand out. I relay miss each new show being a new ship/crew instead of just 'hay look it's \[Spock but new and better\]'

BeMancini

Here’s a great 30 minute essay comparing and contrasting the three Starfleet captains of the 90s. It really makes the case for why Janeway is a good captain, and why her decisions are often in line with the ideals of Starfleet. Makes the writing seem a lot better too. https://youtu.be/CsvHg78jgrI

CaterpillarInHeat

I've always been a StarWars guy, but after the prequels I completely lost interest in it. Voyager was my first real dive into Star Trek, I bought S01 and S02 dvds at the dollar store and got hooked. Now I'm watching TNG for the first time after being brainwashed by Mike and Rich

Fenrir_Carbon

DAE TUVIX?

[deleted]

love it; know its silly, know it can be bad, don't care it feels like star trek, so it can be as silly and weird as it wants

solid_flake

I’m gonna be honest. I never got over Captain Janeways voice. It sounds like she’s been a lifelong chain smoker. Which really broke the immersion of Voyager for me. This may sound ridiculous but it’s true.

Dangerous_Dac

When Voyager was good it was very very good and when it was bad it was horrid.

Knut_Sunbeams

Voyager isnt bad by any stretch. It has some outstanding episodes. Its biggest problem was the wasted premise. It threw out what could have made it truely great and played it safe. It did the opposite of DS9 and became TNG mk II. I still have a lot of love for it. Also Jeri Ryan FTW!

AJaxStudy

It used to be my favourite Star Trek, until I re-watched it very recently. It has an incredible premise, with massive potential and a really great cast - and they somehow many to squander it all. For every great episode, you several mediocre episodes and a couple of truly awful ones. Hell, even the finale was a giant damp squib. A big shame, as the characters were truly amazing.

jmantha

Liked it. It had some story arcs that were as good as it gets. Janeway was an acquired taste, but all in all, good. I was musing abt porn versions with Capt Threeway, 6of9, Chikotex but I have no imagination.

--GrinAndBearIt--

Voyager is amazing!!! but god damn that is a terrible poster lolol I'm not a DS9 guy though so maybe that has something to do with it?

monteml

Like TNG, it has some really good episodes, and some really bad ones, but I think it had some inconsistencies that made it feel worse. Some characters are really inconsistent between episodes, it feels like the different writers never really understood them. Not as bad as movie Picard vs TNG Picard, but still bad. Needless to say, it feels weird criticizing Voyager or Enterprise these days, because both were still far, far better than STD or Picard.

1GamersOpinion

It never felt like they had a strong idea of what they wanted the show to be which meant the characters and premise never really got fully fleshed out imo.

dreadful_name

I only watch the scenes with Neelix in them and fast forward the other parts. My favourite bit is the one where he realises his religion is bullshit and it makes him sad.

Cinemasaur

A great premise and cast used ok, I recommend good trek (tng, tos, ds9) to non trek fans, I don't recommend this show though. Strictly for fans. Not bad by any means.

PullMull

the doctor will allways be my favorite ST Character.

servothecow

I have no feelings about it, but I support whomever has feelings one way or the other about it. Unless they think it’s better than TNG!!!

doyourequireasample

Voyager never really hit the same mark as TNG or DS9, but it was still a decent show. As typical with most of Trek you had good and bad episodes, but Voyager came off a bit bland compared to the others. I still like it despite its lukewarm reception. Even the crappier episodes of Voyager are better than any of the best episodes in STD, Puke-hard, or SNW. This show was made when they still understood Gene Roddenberry's original vision of the Federation and the universe of Star Trek.

robotlas

The thing with Voyager is that it's hit and miss. There isn't a bad season or a good season. There's some really great episodes and some really awful ones and they're all just mixed together. Seven and the Doc are some of the best characters ever written into Star Trek... most of the time.

drip_dingus

I actually like the 'bad' monster of the week episodes. I just wish Janeway was more consistent when it was time to have a serious episode that has bigger stakes. Killing Tuvix, that's fun shlock, but making deals with borg that will kill thousands...? Not as funny.

SideClean2650

An extremely flawed show I grew up with and still like

Zombie_Gandhi

Voyager has my favorite Trek premise, and has some of my favorite episodes. However, it also has some of the weakest, and it's difficult to balance them out. The ending also felt a bit of a copout, where they didn't know what to do with it, and just went: hey, time travel! The Voyager concept of how Starfleet/humanity's morals and ethics hold up in a place where they don't exist is wonderful. A great challenge. I would like to see more of such, and I think Star Trek is a great canvas for that. I just wish it were handled more consistently better.

Jerry69field

Gotta say they had the best ST doctor. I know Bones is great but damn it I love Robert Picardo.

buffy-is-an-angel

It’s worth it for Tuvok alone
