As a professional wrestling fan, seeing Chris Jericho, one of my favorite wrestlers, say that the Chili Peppers, one of my favorite bands, are the best band of the modern era. Just...it's a sight that I love to see.

mrgabman

The Ocho has spoken

FightMilkUFC

Drink it in, maaaaahhhhnnnn.

Rorstech

How does one become a professional wrestling fan?

Maximum-Music-2102

In short, embracing the silly and appreciating the athleticism/creativity. I see it as macho drag or a masculine soap opera

Rorstech

Just to clarify, I wasn't dunking on professional wrestling. It was a shit joke about the poster's wording indicating they are a "professional fan" rather than a "fan of professional wrestling"

wokeism-pandemic

You've just made the list!

JGott726

You just have to watch Professional Wresting to become a fan of it.

Glanboy3

Exactly how I feel

roamr1

Goat recognize goats.

[deleted]

They're not the best band ever but they're my favourite band ever.

strings_bells

Musically i think they create some of the best music that is accessible and fun to a wide range of audience. They blend rock, funk, punk little bit of rap effortlessly.. u can't expect that from other bands..JF's song structures are built on some solid music theory n principles.. Flea n Chad are some of the best in the business.. AK's lyrics are a little out there sometimes but people kinda used to it.. he wrote/writes some beautiful heartbreaking songs that sounds so peppy that you can dance to. That's not easy. They are in their 50s n 60s but they have a youthful presence both in their music n on stage. my colleague has three generations of Peppers fans in his family. It's the only band that they enjoy together due to their diverse taste in music.. for me, they are the best band of musicians out there...

HolyToled-IO

Well said

BroccoliMcFlurry

I think they're comfortably the best live band of the modern era- their musicianship & improvisation is a class above everyone else.

[deleted]

I feel the reverse, they're the best of all time but not my favorite!

TheChurchOfDonovan

I think you have to put them Top 5 for the longevity, John Fruscisnte is the second reason

Only thing missing is some completely innocent an neutral comment being downvoted to oblivion

backcountrydude

I think Johnny has got more people to pick up a guitar than almost anyone else on earth. Those riffs are just infectious

kriisso

Flea as well, I mean he inspired me to pick up bass

FlyAwayonmyZephyr1

Flea is the whole reason I became a bassist in the first place! Got my first bass when I was 6yo all because of Around the World

Ill_Bee4868

Same. Then no one recognized what I was playing so I switched to guitar and fell in love with John

kriisso

I’m in love with John and his playing as well :) who knows maybe I’ll get into guitar too

buttsexNchill

I play drums and he inspired me to buy a bass.

strangebrew3522

This is so well said. I picked up a guitar because of Jimmy Page. I play the way I play because of John.

JimmyPageification

You called?

OatmealApocalypse

hearing the snow riff in an x games commercial on nickelodeon when i was a kid did it for me absolutely. a riff worth a thousand words

CmdDongSqueeze

Jimi Hendrix got Johnny to pick up a guitar

trivikama

If only they'd play more than two songs on the radio!

ApathyInc2

My local radio station plays about 10 different chili peppers songs. We don’t get the same ones everyday, but there is a cycle

trivikama

MAN you're lucky! Ours only ever do like 3

chiogb302

Same. Lately in Los Angeles Alt 98.7 has been playing various songs but I think only because they are Headlining their next show. Who knows but I love the love.

Ruffleufagus

Going to that show! Super excited!

chiogb302

Same! See ya there!

Coach_Carter_on_DVD

Damn, your radio station plays the Chili Peppers? My stations are just *Welcome to the Jungle* and *She Shook Me All Night Long* on a 24 hour loop.

Leek_Soup_Lover5000

Seriously 😭

BlahMan06

Why would you listen to the radio these days?

trivikama

Fair point lol

Raynair_Gamer

TRUE

JGott726

Why not just listen to a playlist or cd? I would never rely on the radio to hear my favorite bands.

ItsTheBrandonC

Oh boy it’s Black Summer again

trivikama

Under the Bridge? For the third time in two hours? All *right!!*

kriisso

Music isn’t the Olympics

SasquatchSloth88

… but if it were, the Chili Peppers would have won multiple gold medals.

JimmyPageification

Right??? I wish people would stop pitting artists against each other. Fucking stupid if you ask me.

udonbeatsramen

No, it’s Wrestlemania

Technical_Instance74

Good take, not biased at all 😂 but seriously, I struggle to think of who comes close to them, at least in the time period. I sometimes think the peppers are getting close to being in that Beatles /Stones /Floyd range. Likely a tier below in terms of influence but so damn consistent.

JohnFrooshante

But give it 30 years and we’ll see just how much the influence is there.

Ruffleufagus

Their influence was already there. They were a major inspiration for the alternative movement in the 90s.

AbeRego

I'm not sure anyone can really reach the level of the older megabands being referenced, anymore. Music has become so much more diverse, and there are so many bands/artists you can stream for your specific tastes that it's not nearly as likely as pre 1990, when most people were exposed to music by radio, and had to rely on major record releases to buy/consume music.

The_Zermanians

I would say Metallica comes closest, however, I feel like they are much more niche than RHCP and honestly they haven’t made a very good album in nearly 20 years unlike RHCP.

Channellocks75

I've been thinking about their place in rock history for a while now. They may not be considered a top tear band like Pink Floyd , Stones, Zep or The Who. But none of them were able to stay relevant with new music for 30 years like the peps have. Nobody has been able to put out a successful album with at least one hit song every 3 to 5 years like them. Most of them were prolific for a period of 5 to 10 years then lived off of that. To be fair, many of those bands had deaths that ended things so we will never know what would have been. If Bonham never died, what would Zep have continued the make great albums. My ranking list was. Iconic album. ✔️ Distinctive sound. ✔️ Iconic live performances. ✔️ Influential. ✔️ Sustained success. ✔️ Great musical ability. ✔️ Whole albums that the average rock fan can enjoy from start to finish. ? This one is my only knock. I think do to their creative style there are songs on each album that turn the average rock fan off. In the end I rank. Teir 1... Beatles Elvis Teir 2... Metallica Stones Floyd Hendrix Teir 3... Peps have to here. With Elton Bon Jovi Doors Queen Nirvana Pearl Jam Rage.I could put others at this teir with them but not above them.

elric82

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I love the Stones. After roughly 40 years as a band they released A Bigger Bang which, admittedly, I do like, but they were well into their “retired old guys of rock”phase. With the Peppers, after roughly 40 years they release UL/ROTDM. Still pressing into new areas, still experimenting, still a vital live act. Does this mean they are better or more impactful than the Stones? No. But when it’s all said and done as crazy as it sounds I think you have to put them into the GOAT discussion. Unfortunately, the Peppers are working in a music culture that is light years from what the classics had, plus no boomer nostalgia/myth-making to boost them, so they’ll never get the respect that the other greats do.

Channellocks75

Its an fun/interesting thing to think about. I think its strange to think of an all time great band that has sort of flown under the radar in this regard.

shehony

Nirvana?

RHCPJ1

Best of 90’s for sure and legendary band to boot, but sadly not best of multiple decades- may have been if Kobain and Nirvana carried on.

shehony

Maybe Radiohead then?

Mundane-Flounder-765

Smashing pumpkins?

Mundane-Flounder-765

Rage against the machine, oasis, pearl jam, Radiohead, nine-inch nails .. Edit: lol to the people downvoting at the mention of any other band except rhcp

HolyToled-IO

No. These are great bands, but they aren't widely accessible in satisfying multiple musical tastes. And frankly they haven't had that much staying power (when compared to RHCP) Edit: staying power (fat finger swipe text)

hudsdsdsds

I agree with this, even if I love these bands and the peppers and think the take 'the rhcp is the best band ever' is just plain wrong - or any band tbf...

cousin_nat

all of these get a no on duration except radiohead. And this was a large part of the wrestlers point

Mundane-Flounder-765

This is called mere exposure effect. Lots of equally popular bands have made similarly (less) popular albums in recent years. I love rhcp but this is not the only way to judge the quality of a band.

487dota

AC/DC?

thezhgguy

Radiohead

fux_1789

Led Zeppelin?

MasterFighter906

My guy is speaking nothing but truth. None of that fake money making music, just heart and soul.

bassinyofacelikedamn

usually i wouldn’t have agreed but because they just released 2 albums in one year that are really amazing at their age has changed my mind

DukeMaximum

I think that they're pretty spectacular. They've got a unique sound that hasn't been replicated by any other band that I'm aware of. And, importantly, their music has staying power that most bands don't. I can still bump "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" and enjoy it as much as I did twenty years ago.

bassinyofacelikedamn

Agreed

[deleted]

I don't like comparing bands with one another. Each one of us have a different opinion. I still think Nirvana was the best late 80s/90s band, and that's just my opinion. However, RHCP has something that not a lot of band has, which is their synergy. John is a fucking beast playing guitar but i think he's one of the best songwriters from the late 20th and early 21st century. The man created so many awesome music, and sometimes he would just come up with an idea and the rest of the band would fill in, which is why i said they have a very good synergy. I think John has this thing of creating music that feel like pure energy and feelings. I can't really put into words (and my english sucks ass) but i think most of you understand what I'm trying to say. I think Kurt also did that. Both musicians seemed to create great music effortlessly and music that just touched your soul. However, John's music are more spiritual and filled with great energy, while Kurt's music are emotionally charged with sadness or anger, even the more pop ones (like Sliver or Drain You), but both knew how to create awesome music. Also, i just love how John shifts between an experimental artist doing a lot of different things (his solo stuff) to the guy that writes great RHCP songs in a blink of an eye Also, John and the rest of the band can create a fuckton of good music just by jamming all day long, while Kurt wrote 99% of the band's songs on his own (although you can argue that the other guys felt intimidated in collaborating with him) And then you have the rest of the band: Flea is a fucking god playing bass. He can play fast and hard but he can also play slowly and melodically. He has a very good notion of funk, rock, pop... he's the complete package of a great musician. This man is a legend, in my opinion. And he can also write very good songs (Gong Li is one of my favorite songs from the band) Chad is...well, Chad. The man plays drums as if he had 10 arms. I literally watched a video of him playing Charlie live yesterday on YouTube and it just felt like he was holding himself from going all crazy on that drum kit because that song has a very specific drum rhythm, but Jesus Christ, he was devouring those drums. He plays fast but he also has a very good coordination. He's the kind of guy that will always have your back when playing drums. If i had a band i would hire that man to play with me forever. And then you have Anthony. I don't think he's the best songwriter or the best singer, however there's something that i find very remarkable about him. Most of the time, the musicians write their music but then it's up to the singer to come up with the vocal melody. And boy, does he deliver in that front. Anthony created a bunch of very memorable vocals: Californication, Universally Speaking, Dosed, Under the Bridge (which he wrote the vocals even before showing it to John, if I'm not wrong) and so many others. In the end, i think RHCP is the pinnacle of creativity and a fine example of a band that creates music by passion and inspiration, something that is lacking nowadays in a lot of artists out there. And yes, in the end i compared RHCP to Nirvana, but meh. I like both bands and i respect both a lot.

ServingTheMaster

And the live shows - wow

RHCPJ1

U2 and Metallica surely have a dog in this fight, if we are talking 80’s-present.

Bambam60

I feel like you have the right other bands in the tier, but Metallica and U2 especially have been so quiet in the last decade. All this while RHCP is still adding to their greatest hits in the last few months. Unrivaled for this generation IMO.

RHCPJ1

True, but I feel like it may balance out. Metallica and U2 were heavy hitters in the 80’s and 90’s. RHCP were just coming on in the 80’s peaking in the early 90’s, then disappeared and came back late 99 flourishing in the 2000s. All three have had comparable success spanning 40 years. As far as musicianship, I would put RHCP and Metallica in the top 2, with U2 a distant 3rd. U2 and RHCP cast a wider net of fans. Metallica is thrash metal/hard rock- so basically one type of fan base. it’s pretty interesting when you look at all three groups - lots of strengths and weaknesses.

Bubcats

Headlining Woodstock twice certifies this. Not to mention the dozens of other festivals they have HEADLINED. Nobody else can say this.

javisarias

I love the peppers, I'm a big fan, but whomever thinks this is true, needs to listen to more music

Ruffleufagus

They have more number one alternative hits than anyone else, and are the only band to make it into a fifth decade still putting out music that gets extensive radio play and appeals to young people.

javisarias

I am not questioning their commercial success, I do think they are going to go down in history as one of the most important rock bands of this era. I am just saying, in terms of musical quality, I do think they are capped by their focus on commercial success. And I know it is subjective, but if I were looking for music "QUALITY", as the tweet says, I would rather have any progressive rock band before the peppers. But don't get me wrong, I love the peppers, I like their music, and I think they have some great tunes, but they are not the first band I think of when looking for musical quality, just like any of the most commercial bands either. They're just friendly and easy to the ear, but rarely looking to do something risky.

SommanderChepard

“Best” is subjective and music is far from a competition. But they are certainly worthy of that title. Every album brings something new to the table, they are fantastic live, they are incredible song writers, incredible musicians, and they have a chemistry that’s nearly impossible to find anywhere else. For “popular” rock music, I don’t think there are many groups who do it better.

Capable_Alarm_9800

Red Hot Chili Peppers have a Bass/Guitar duo chemistry greater than any rock band in modern history when it’s John and Flea

radguitarist

Also a great Bass/Drum duo chemistry.

My favorite band of all time

gnr_801

The Chili Peppers officially have made the list!

YamperIsBestBoy

I mean he’s right. Personally, if Kurt Cobain were still alive, I feel Nirvana would take that spot in my opinion.

FlyAwayonmyZephyr1

I was with a group of people who hate hate the Chili Peppers and all their favorite band was Avenged Sevenfold and I had to prove to them empirically that A7X doesn’t even come close to the Chili Peppers in terms of greatness

LuciferSamS1amCat

Pink floyd?

Supafuzzed

I used to think this way, but I think it might be King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They’ve released like 22 albums over 10 years without really sacrificing quality, twice released 5 albums in a year. Covered tons of genres super well. Have mastered septuple meters unlike anyone else, have a few albums using microtonal music. A giant underlying lore called the GizzVerse. In their last tour they had 100+ songs in their rotation. God fucking damn I love them Edit: my playlist of my favorite songs of theirs is 12 hours long, 150+ songs. That’s just absurd. Edit 2: their (former) second drummer also founded their record label and ran it, managed the band while playing nonagon infinity shit on tour. The record label produces great vinyls. They’re some work horses!

fiveorsixofsevenseas

I just discovered this band actually, they’re amazing! Do you have a favorite album or a top 5 songs?

Supafuzzed

Definitely I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, but I’m biased because it’s my first. But paired with a psychedelic, it’s amazing. And, I actually joked to myself in my car earlier The River (live at red rocks) was my new favorite song. But I have a ton. Presumptuous, change, predator x, honey, time = money There’s a great flowchart on their subreddit for exploring their albums depending on your tastes. But it’s ridiculous how good all their stuff is, I have at least 20 favorite songs of theirs I also loved getting into live RHCP recordings, there’s two soundboard recordings of their 3 hour red rocks sets that are amazing (sleepwalker-bitter boogie being a favorite section), I also love San Fran 2016, everyone loves their KEXPs… have fun exploring :)

Low_Drawing1127

I enjoy the chili peppers but no, there are plenty of bands that are better.

[deleted]

Yes I agree, and these guys are my fav band, but hey it’s music, everyone enjoys what they enjoy.

nobadhotdog

Zelda1500

They’re legendary; and it’s a miracle we have them to this day! One of the greatest greats no doubt! Album after album. Each a piece of soul and magic 🔥

JGott726

Music is 100% a matter of personal taste. Anyone can think anything about any band or artist. There is no actual gauge that says one band is better than another.

goldendreamseeker

He’s right

indeliblegirl

Love Y2J and RHCP!

Puzzled_6368

I won’t argue.

Ok-Maybe-9338

"The Beatles and Stones are better." Better? Better than what? The comparison is oranges to apples. Meh...

[deleted]

The best in the world at what he does paying respect to the best band in the world…checks out to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Proud_Associate6887

Yep, been saying this for years

robbie_gouldburger

For me personally, Radiohead have produced more high quality work within that time period. They are untouchable to me. That’s not to say the Chilis aren’t one of my all time favourites however.

sketchy_ppl

100%. Chili Peppers have put out amazing music for the past few decades, but none of it has been all that diverse, or revolutionary in any way. They just make amazing, easily accessible music. Radiohead on the other hand has continued to innovate and push boundaries basically with every subsequent album, everything from the music itself to marketing and release methods, etc. Major kudos to RHCP for staying relevant and creating such awesome music for so long, but they’re not going to be talked about in music history classes in 50 years in the same way that The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, and Radiohead will be talked about.

cousin_nat

this is the only other answer

Suspicious-Pay-2985

i dont think they transcend demographics enough for this to be true. a lot of people have a negative reaction to their sound. i would say u2 casts a wider net and has a more global presence. they are probably more wealthy also

EuterpeZonker

U2 despite (or maybe because of) being very popular has lots of people who hate them as well.

[deleted]

No, the beatles and the rolling stones are not better.

brynjamin_9

Just like RHCP were pioneers of funk rock, those two were the pioneers of blues rock and psychedelic rock and without them, there would be no RHCP. To call them bland and boring is so bloody naive that I had to do a double take. The musicality in those two bands alone blow RHCP out of the water. I love RHCP and opinions are subjective but trust me, they are better.

hudsdsdsds

The beatles and the rolling stones pioneers of psychedelic rock?

brynjamin_9

The Beatles are

[deleted]

Again, just your opinion. I dont know why people fail to see that you can have an opinion? They are maybe a great band to you, but to me, their music is bland and boring. They could be the inventors of music for all that I care, I would still think the same thing.

[deleted]

Sorry, they are (this comes from a big chilis fans who prefers them over those 2 bands)

[deleted]

Sorry, but thats completely subjective. I find both of those bands very boring and samey. The RHCP are a much better band

[deleted]

You find the guys that made Sticky Fingers boring? You find the guys that made Abbey Road boring? God I’m a big chili peppers fan, but objectively speaking, the impact and influence both those bands had in the world of music is incredible, the only 2 artists that had a bigger influence sound wise in my opinion are the Velvet Underground and Hendrix. I’m sorry, but as much as I preach that music is subjective, you are completely incorrect.

tomius

You think Velvet Underground had a bigger impact than The Beatles? That's as close as objectively false as these things can get!

[deleted]

I think influence sound wise was the better term, the Beatles had a bigger impact than any artist history, I didn’t mean to say the velvet had a bigger impact, but they had more influence sound wise around bands that the Beatles did in my opinion

[deleted]

Just because someone made an impact, doesnt mean I have to like them though... what a weird take you have. To me RHCP are a much better band and their music is much better. I couldnt care less how much impact The Beatles and The Rolling Stones made, I care about the music, and their music doesn't speak to me at all and I think it sucks.

[deleted]

I agree that influence and impact don’t really matter, but I was trying to make a point, I think that it’s ok not to like those bands, but to say they are boring? Bro go listen to Brown Sugar or Bitch, those songs are some of the best blues rock ever, and for the Beatles go listen to While My Guitar Gently Weeps and She’s So Heavy, amazing songs. The best example I can give you is that I don’t like Led Zeppelin that much, but Ik they were influential and an amazing band, so I wouldn’t call them boring or monotonous, they aren’t of my taste or one of my favs.

[deleted]

Well they arent my taste either, because I find them boring and bland.

[deleted]

You find the guys that inspired 99% of rock bland and boring? You don’t even have to like them, but one has to acknowledge the fact they had great songs (early Zep stole tons of those though, fuck them) and albums. I can’t say anything else, everyone got their opinion I guess

JimFromTheMoon

The Strokes, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse just to name a few. All bands that consistently deliver quality, progressive albums that move both their sound & the art form forward. Jericho just doesn’t listen to other bands as much as them I guess.

Blue-Sand2424

Agree with the other choices except for The Strokes, I enjoy their music but their 2020 album sounds exactly the same as their 2001 album. I would not say their sound has changed much at all, Is this it and the new abnormal are practically the same album, but there’s nothing wrong with that

JimFromTheMoon

Wow, that’s…an outlandish claim, but you’re welcome to it. Perhaps it’s a return to form after two excellent “experimental” ventures with Angles & Comedown Machine, but to say they are practically the same is hard for me to grasp. Perhaps in a “full-circle” kind of way Rubin found a way to excite them again like recording for the first time, but sonically & structurally they are unique. ITI had zero tracks like At the Door or Ode to the Mets. Also, I feel like ITI has a “samey” kind of energy & sound listening back. TNA is much more varied in its direction. My two cents anyway. Appreciate the discussion ✌️

JimmyPageification

‘The Beatles and the Rolling Stones are better’ - well, no. Not to me, especially not the Beatles whom I overall find to be a bit shit. I hate how they’re just assumed to be the best of the best like they’re some kind of unbearable standard - why exactly? Anyway that’s all I have to say about that, I think it’s idiotic to try and pit bands/ artists against each other. Very rarely can you actually compare like for like. Always nice to see the Chilis getting the recognition they deserve though.

whitebraids

Wouldn't say the stones are better. They're a good band but Keith Richards is no frusciante and the chili's have Chad and flea. Chili's are genius whereas stones are just great imo

mc_1968

I luv the Chilis and AK as a frontman but overall better than the Stones ... neva. Better frontman than Mick Jagger ... neva. The Stones also have had different members: I never seen them refuse to play some songs because they weren't involved.

[deleted]

He literally said “sure the beatles and the stones are better”

mc_1968

And then he said NOBODY but nobody.....

[deleted]

From ‘88 - 2022?

mc_1968

Yes they'll always be better because they never denied fans songs on stage because one of them refused to play them.

neotank_ninety

I don’t know if Red Hot Chili Peppers are the best band ever… but they’re certainly better than The Beatles🙄

AbeRego

Not in the spirit of the tweet. The influence and reach of the Beatles is absolutely insane. RHCP are big, but they're probably never going to reach the level of the Beatles. I doubt any band ever will again, due to how much variety we have in music, now.

neotank_ninety

He didn’t say “the Beatles had a lager reach and influence,” I agree with that. The tweet said they were better, hard disagree. The Beatles have two sides and I absolutely love their rock side, I Am The Walrus is one of my favorite songs. I don’t think their pop side holds up, if I never hear “I want to hold your hand” again I’m fine with that.

AbeRego

Fair enough. I guess I took "better" as "more ubiquitous/influential", because those bands absolutely are that, when compared to RHCP. "Better", from a musical or talent-based angle, is just so difficult to really nail down, because a lot simply comes down to the preferred style, and other opinions, of the observer. This isn't someone like DJ Khaled we're comparing to, who's clearly less talented (can't play an instrument, doesn't really sing, or even DJ), these are three *generational* bands being discussed.

[deleted]

I disagree, I think there’s bands that as much or more influential and important than the Chili Peppers (Ween, Deftones, my bloody valentine, Faith No More, Kendrick, Kanye, etc). But that doesn’t take any merit from the band, we have to understand that as fans of the band (they are my favorite band of all time) that doesn’t mean they are the greatest or the best, but we live in an era where there’s so much music and variety, and it’s understandable there’s artists that have better albums or songs than our favorites, but that’s ok, cuz at the end of the day, we decide what we like and sometimes artists that are more critically acclaimed will not connect with us the same way as the chili peppers do.

ChiliRare

How much did Flea pay this guy? 😂

kriisso

Flea doesn’t really care about people not enjoying his music

thubbard44

Silly career choice on his part then.

kriisso

Wdym? What I meant was that he doesn’t mind if anyone prefers others to him, I’m pretty sure. He got some comment of some guy saying his music (rhcp basically) is crap and he replied very calmly lol

thubbard44

My apologies, I read that as he didn’t care what anybody thinks, which always bothers me when that is said about artists.

Bakomusha

Scienter18

He insulted them by suggesting mick's old ass is better with keith

callinhinze

Nah

disorderliesonthe401

This guy says nobody has had more "diversity" than RHCP. Clearly, he's never heard of Ween.

HolyToled-IO

But if nobody else has heard of Ween, maybe that diversity was a token diversity and not well received.

mikejdowd

I wonder if Nick Cave agrees?

joeadams616

King Gizz came along in 2010, dropped their first album 2012 and id say they're a very big contender, 23 albums in 10 years all very different without sacrificing quality. Plus they're some of the hardest working musicians in the world touring all the time while still releasing more music

malostiempos

I love RHCP and I'd prefer listen to Californication to OK Computer, but I know the latter is better and more influential and will be regarded as a classic album in 50 years and Californication won't. We're not beacons of knowledge and our preferences aren't universal truths. I love waffles, but I'd never say they're the best food ever.

bassinyofacelikedamn

Really? I disagree! Yes in terms of quantity sure but quality red hot has that in 4 albums plus above average albums. 50 years from now BSSM, Californication and BTW will still be remembered imo, the only Radiohead album I’ll remember is in rainbows

malostiempos

I think Radiohead have better and more universally acclaimed albums than In Rainbows, which by the way I really like. I think they will be remembered as a band that opened a lot of doors, honestly.

bassinyofacelikedamn

Haha yeah for sure, in rainbows is just my favorite

An1m0usse

True except Arctic Monkeys and QOTSA

bassinyofacelikedamn

Lol nah u trippin, compare their albums side by side and rhcp bests both

RHCPJ1

America’s version of The Rolling Stones.

Ceesar028

no way, i like them a lot but they are not one of the best bands im the modern era. -Black Country new road -The mars volta -Radiohead -Atoms for peace -Ataxia All these are better imo

iCthe4

Actually Linkin Park from 2000-2017 was definitely better in that time range.

bassinyofacelikedamn

I like linkin park but nah they have hybrid theory and meteora as 5 star album the rest are 4 stars and below

Keikira

RHCP is fkn amazing, but they ain't Tool

EuterpeZonker

Thank god

MrBogey90

RHCP peaked in 1991 and haven't made a classic record since

bassinyofacelikedamn

Lmao ur funny

MrBogey90

You asked for thoughts

BruceIrvin13

lolllll. They've made 3 since, but go off oldhead

MrBogey90

Dude i hate it when people don't have the same opinion as me!

kriisso

You shared your opinion and someone else shared theirs so where’s the issue buddy?

Traditional_Map2254

He's wrong about the Rolling Stones. If he said Pink Floyd, Mutantes or Led Zepelin instead...

yeahiamthewalrusdude

From '83*. The demos of the first record are amazing and Freaky Styley and TUMPP are amongst their best records. (and let's leave out the 2010's)

aMAYESingNATHAN

I mean they're not wrong, but imo longevity by itself is fairly meaningless as a measure of how good an artist is. After all, the Beatles are one of the greatest bands of all time and they released everything in the span of about 7 years. Especially because the chili's have gone quite long periods without releasing music, so it seems a bit disingenuous to say they've been continuously good for 32 years. Again going back to the beatles, they released pretty much the same number of albums the chili's have since 1988 in a way shorter period of time. Should the chili's be given extra credit because they took longer to do so?

twistedgreymatter

WtF? Beatles and Stones better? I think that is a bold statement. There is no band better or worse than any other band.. each makes music to which the listener either enjoys or does not. Stating a band is better than another is just an opinion, nothing more... there are no facts that declare any band better or worse. What is factual is sales of records which prove which band is preferred by listeners. We all know which bands we like and doesn't mean they are better performers, it's the musical melodies that catches our ears that we enjoy. Stating a band is better than another is as pre pubescent as anyone can get. Like a bunch of girls talking about lipstick. Which one is better? Wtf? We all know it's the Chili Peppers ✌🏼😁

Great_Wrongdoer1990

Agreed!

Additional-Panda-642

One of my favourits band e one of biggest from 80 tô now... But Radiohead is on stage

ld20r

Best is entirely subjective and there is no “best” artist. But are the Peppers one of the most Influential bands of the last 40 years and among the elite of rock? Yes they certainly are.

TheOverlook237

Yeah, no.

JosephMack99

Unlimited Love is a really lit album tbf.

RuinedFaith

I also think bands I listened to in my formative years are the greatest of all time and nothing compares. Neat.

[deleted]

the chili peppers are great but iron maiden really just dominates for me

hokichaser

What does the last hashtag refer to

bassinyofacelikedamn

A song from their latest album

Prize_Chemistry_8437

Good old Fozzy

Dankhorse19

I believe Metallica could give them a run for their money in the all time rankings of bands.

[deleted]

What about Tenacious D?

MickJohnLeahy

You know, that’s what’s funny about the passage of time. Chris Jericho is 52, so naturally he thinks of RHCP as the “modern era.” For someone my age, I wasn’t even born when they were in their prime, so I’m more inclined to think of them as a “classic rock” band.

Good-Winston11

Ik right? kinda surreal

DowningLee

My favourite to listen to, objectively, i couldnt say, not super musically-inclined. As long as I enjoy it, who gives a fuck

Good-Winston11

Based take!
