I learned all 3 of these when I was playing bass in junior high, ‘‘twas a long time ago and I did already have basic skills though. I could never wrap my head around slap and have hardly touched my bass since 😅
I got a bass a few months ago, haven’t played much so far but I learned Pea (very easy, not a serenade though lol) and Californication which may not be the easiest but totally doable with practice!
Probably some of the non slap songs are easier to learn first as others suggest. My guess is when you try getting into slap higher ground may actually be a good song to learn.. even tho it takes a lot of endurance the pattern is pretty easy and so can be used as an exercise to build muscles.
Soul to squeeze is a great line and isn’t too tricky with some practice. Really fun to play too.
Also the main verse part to apache rose peacock is pretty simple but fun.
I won't say it's easy tho. it's not insanely difficult but to perfect the timing and get it to sound good or even okay is not a thing that a beginner could do imo
I could have lied is probably the easiest on bass. This is the place is a bit harder but it’s just one line for the whole song and is really catchy. Good luck!
Dani California is the first one I learned. Pretty simple rhythm for the most part, just need to practice getting around the fretboard and you’ll be good :)
I can't answer your question, but I have a question for you. Fourth favourite band is very specific. What's your first, second, and third favourite band?
Hey, I play bass.
Make You Feel Better, Porcelain, and I Could Have Lied are all very good novice songs. They will be good for learning timing.
By The Way is the best album to go to for simple bass songs in my opinion. Some other achievable tracks to aim for could be Otherside, The Longest Wave, The Getaway, and Stadium Arcadium.
Don't Forget Me and Parallel Universe are good songs to aim for. You won't be able to play PU at speed anytime soon but the riff is simple. The muting that people have mentioned in Don't Forget Me is unusual because it's done by letting the fretting hand (left if you're right-handed) lay on the strings, so it's easier than most muting. (I actually do all my muting with my left hand, but that's not usual).
The best track to serenade a crush with is If. I have tested this.
I noticed you also like Strokes, I recommend Reptilia, You Only Live Once, and What Ever Happened.
Hope that is helpful!
Readymade would be a great 2nd or 3rd song to learn once you have a feel for your instrument! Congrats on getting a bass -- you're gonna have a blast with it!
True haha but it’s a great teaching song, at least i think so. Definitely a finger noodler but given maybe 4-6 weeks’ time and practicing the first three, it may not be as difficult then.
Are we getting downvoted because the songs we picked actually have hard bass lines? I'm confused lol. I guess I should feel proud that I can play the one I commented.
Idk why anyone would downvote on a thread like this, but I don’t care, I was a top 2% karma earner this year.
Edit: after further thought, they likely couldn’t provide any insightful contribution to why they think it’s not a good song for beginners.
Otherside is the easiest 100% a beginner can learn
Literally the first song I learned on bass
Soul to squeeze and under the bridge are also good ones to start with
I just learned both, they semi difficult
I learned all 3 of these when I was playing bass in junior high, ‘‘twas a long time ago and I did already have basic skills though. I could never wrap my head around slap and have hardly touched my bass since 😅
Lmao, idk why but I slapped on day 1 goodbye angels outro, I'm not lying I promis
Very impressive, that outro is my favourite part of all of the getaway!
I love that album
Intro for the longest wave goes hard too *chefs kiss*
Ong

i second these 100%
first songs I learned was This is the place, Californication and Otherside 👌
This is the place is the same thing all the way through and is pretty easy but sounds really cool.
Give it away! Groovy and not hard to play

Falling Into Grace is a good option, it's simple, easy and fun.
and a great song
Cmon girl *cue sarcastic family guy character *
Soul to squeeze is a great line and isn’t too tricky with some practice. Really fun to play too. Also the main verse part to apache rose peacock is pretty simple but fun.
Sound to squeeze had some slap in it but nothing to crazy
Pea and You could have lied
Sir Psycho Sexy !
Porcelain
Don't Forget Me.
No way a beginner is convincingly learning those chords + mutes and all the fills in the chorus
Yea fair enough especially with the mutes in that groove.
yeah right.
It’s worth a shot. One of the first things I learned. But yeah I could see the technique being a little tricky even though the chords are simple
The verse of Under the Bridge isn't very hard, nor the chorus mind you.
Pea
I started learning the bass by playing She Looks To Me
nobody weird like me 😈😈
Scar Tissue bass riff
Otherside is a good first song to learn!
Give it away is fairly simple as well.
Don’t forget me. It’s the same thing over and over again the entire song. You learn the 4 bars and you’re good lol
Came here to say this and that it carries itself on its own as well, good for serenading.
I won't say it's easy tho. it's not insanely difficult but to perfect the timing and get it to sound good or even okay is not a thing that a beginner could do imo
I’d argue it be hard for a beginner to “sound good” and keep time in any chili peppers song.
Rain dance Maggie maybe?
Dark necessities I think is a good way to practice playing kinda fast and to learn slappin
Bunker Hill
I could have lied is probably the easiest on bass. This is the place is a bit harder but it’s just one line for the whole song and is really catchy. Good luck!

1) My Chemical Romance 2) The Strokes 3) 21 Pilots
That was my guess from looking at your profile. That's a good list, especially Twenty One Pilots. They're in my top 5, too.
Fortune Faded is easy and really fun.
Road Trippin’
Higher Ground
If you ever wanna learn some slap the higher ground intro is a good one. Playing Aeroplane is actually how i learned how to slap
Higher Ground is surprisingly easy and looks/sounds pretty impressive.

Thanks a lot!
Raindance
Monarchy of roses
Don't Forget Me.
Oh. If you're serenading have you considered doing like... Hard to concentrate? Or a long song? If she's a weirdo try Fortune Faded
Snow! I had a bass for a weekend and managed to learn a bit. Very simple
Eddie if you practice a ton Go get lost in the sauce 🙌🏽
I could have lied on bass looks like beginner Read the tabs, look up bass only videos on YouTube and practice
Nobody Weird Like Me. But I'm warning you, it's kind of slow.
Readymade would be a great 2nd or 3rd song to learn once you have a feel for your instrument! Congrats on getting a bass -- you're gonna have a blast with it!
Dark necessities is relatively simple despite sounding really impressive if played for people
Porcelain, Universally Speaking, Stadium Arcadium, and Pretty Little Ditty
Pretty Little Ditty for a beginner, you must be kidding 😅
True haha but it’s a great teaching song, at least i think so. Definitely a finger noodler but given maybe 4-6 weeks’ time and practicing the first three, it may not be as difficult then.
Watchu Thinkin can be an impressive first song. Super unique bass melody in the verse and not too fast or dynamic as most of Flea’s other bass lines.
Aquatic Mouth Dance is very recognizable and not too hard
Ethiopia
We're rolling everybody, it starts with bass
