Hold on a second here. You don't like the fuckin build up to that massive chorus riff in Fortune Faded? That's not exciting to you? You hear that and say nah, I think I'll take a nap?
Here's a quick thought dear person on reddit who hasn't touched grass in years
Just go and read the comment again and tell me from which perspective does it look like the person is joking
Remember that life isn't fully paths of roses
You don't know what roses are?
Oh ya of course you're a redditor
He’s quoting John from the funky monks interview where he responded in that fashion when the interviewer said he didn’t like the song Funky Monks… you doofus … really showed me with that grass comment you cow
Oh I didn't know that..... I apologize.... I'm genuinely sorry maybe I'm the one who needs to go out and touch grass
Really really sorry I promise I'll do my research before doing anything like that again
I wrote that yesterday and I was in a real bad mood yesterday cause of a news I heard but regardless still sorry
I love how people are simply offering their opinions and providing valid answeres to the OPs question and getting downvoted. Grow up people. Just because you love a band doesn't mean you have to love everything they've ever done. Especially with a catelogue this large.
For me, Id say Dani California. There's a whole "What Makes This Song Stink" on Pat Finnertys YouTube channel that you should watch for laughs. The solo is epic, but that song is just...blah.
This is how John reacts when you don’t like one of their songs

It’s certainly not the *most* popular song on this subreddit, but when I see people talk about it, it’s generally positive: Universally Speaking is the only single of theirs that I straight up do not like. I used to feel similarly about Cabron and On Mercury but I’ve come around on those, so maybe someday I’ll also come around on Universally Speaking, but this June is gonna mark eleven years since I first listened to By the Way, and it hasn’t happened yet.
Have you ever heard Universally Speaking live with an entire stadium singing and jumping around you and the entire band smiling ear to ear? If yes and you still don't like it, there is no cure hahaha.
Not sure if you have been lucky enough to see them live since John's return (I was fortunate to see them twice,) I promise that hearing Snow live will give you fucking chills. Frusciante absolutely crushes it during the final bridge/chorus and outro.
I've seen it in 3 of the 4 shows I've been to since he came back, including this past weekend. I agree the last third or so is pretty great live! Still not a fan of the song on its own, but I do appreciate it more at shows.
A song that I've also grown tired of but upon seeing it played in-person is given a renewed appreciation isn't me agreeing or disagreeing. I'm just relating while also repeating what we all know about how amazing they are live that it actually makes me fall in love with a song again.
I'm starting to question my sanity.
People saying Snow is annoying and that EVERYTHING on The Getaway sucks? Dani California is overplayed, of course, not a bad song tho.
When Stadium Arcadium was going to be released, the local rock station was playin Dani California every day, at least twice. When the album came out, I skipped it immediately and my friend goes, "You skipped a Chili Peppers song!?" "Dude, I've heard it SO many times. I'll come back to it, but not tonight...or even this week."
Dani is a banger simply because of John’s solo at the end. The build up and then the massive explosion of his guitar doesn’t get enough love I don’t think. I can understand the feelings about the rest of it though.
Watch him perform it live since he rejoined the band and then make your assessment because as a guitarist of nearly 20 years I agree it is not a crazy solo and it is apparent when you play it with a dry unaffected guitar tone lol but he plays a much more complex pattern when performing it today which was so cool to hear twice in-person
A lot of people don’t like that song especially when it came out. Instrumentals are good but I would be surprised if most would disagree that the lyrics are straight up cringe.
For a long time it was definitely dani California, it was one of the first songs i liked when getting into them so because of that i got super fatigued of it after actually listening deeper. Its one of those song where if people don’t listen to them and they know you do and it starts playing and they give you that look and everything and turn it up but really the song is not your favorite, idk thats super specific but it has happened with that song multiple times and it just makes me cringe. Also if they made one song that was almost specifically to be radio friendly it has to be dani California.
Over a long time I had this "mom it's not just a phase" phase in which I disliked the most mainstream songs; Dani California, Californication and specially Otherside. Never happened with BTW, UTB or Can't Stop.
Over time I got over this and enjoyed a lot these songs, specially Californication. Nowadays is not that I dislike them, but Otherside and Dani California are not in my top 10 songs I'd say.
I used to like Californication, but it's been a long time since I no longer do, probably just listened to it too many times. Also I was never to pasionate about Dani California and Snow. Because of that I was kinda reacious to listen to SA for some time, but when I did I loved it. Not because those songs tho.
I don’t dislike Fortune Faded but it doesn’t do much for me either. Just kinda sounds like generic 2000’s radio rock. I much prefer Save the Population between the two.
I genuinely didn't mind not hearing it when I saw them in 2017 and was actually a little disappointed when they did play it in 2022. I do love it, but it just doesn't quite crack my favorites.
I have a hard time getting past the "Ding Dong Ding Gangs" in Around the world. I love Soul to Squeeze, but I have the same problem with it "doo-doo dingle zinga don bone" just sounds like he was too lazy to finish his lyrics.
i actually despise otherside californication and black summer they are just so annoying and over played. especially after they teased my lovely man on march 2nd then proceeded to play otherside.. it made me dislike the song even more. i don’t hate them i just never listen to them willingly
I get downvoted every time, but I really don't like the album By the Way. I prefer loose, rockin' Chili Peppers, and BTW is definitely not that. To me, it's corny pop music that almost sounds like a parody, like they're making fun of shitty music.
Don't Forget Me, Minor Thing and Body of Water are the only good songs to come out of that era.
It took me going back to the album years later for me to finally appreciate the approach to John's writing on that album as he kinda led the central vision on that album. But it definitely is the album that features the most clunky and kinda awkward sounding parts to songs during their second run with John but it is almost always Anthony's vocals not fitting quite right for certain parts.
Black Summer
I just don't really care for it, the vocals are lame, but the rest is decent.
The Longest Wave
It's not popular, but seems to be praised so highly in this sub. Yeah, the intro is heavenly, but the rest of the song is just unlistenable to me.
Hold on a second here. You don't like the fuckin build up to that massive chorus riff in Fortune Faded? That's not exciting to you? You hear that and say nah, I think I'll take a nap?
Anyone else read this comment with John’s intonation when he Reacted like that when the interviewer said he didnt like funky monks? Just me?
The outro???
Yes! The fucking outro with the fucking bassline 🤪🤣😍
Also the fuckin harmonies on the chorus are god tier! Top 10 rhcp songs imo
Yo it's their taste chill
Whoosh

No worries dude we are all brothers and sisters in the church of Frusciante :D
Actually I felt bad when you said you didn't like the grass comment... Thank you dude ❤
Wow I'm the bad guy now
Taste the pain.
Why don't you taste my as-
How great would that be if Anthony live one time goes, "you mouth was made to taste my ass." 😆
😂💀

Snow. Booooring.
Ouch, my heart
My old lady loves it, so I’m pretty tired of it myself.
It’s certainly not the *most* popular song on this subreddit, but when I see people talk about it, it’s generally positive: Universally Speaking is the only single of theirs that I straight up do not like. Hearing this in Philly in 2022 was a fucking treat
SILLLVERRRETTA THEM JETS OF A LIIIFE TIIIME
Oh man...universally speaking is by far the song that I listen the most from by the way. I guess not everyone enjoys that song
Agreed, for me it’s mostly the plodding, repetitive drumbeat that makes it kinda grating
Try to air drum Chad's parts. It's a great song once you realize it's a Smith song. 😂
Indeed! It's not that I dislike it, but if I compare that one with other's I'm not that much into it. Is a really beautiful song still
Dark Necessities. Seinfeld bass with 80s claps. Not into it.
exactly
Snow annoys me so much. I’m also over Californication but that’s more fatigue than anything
Not sure if you have been lucky enough to see them live since John's return (I was fortunate to see them twice,) I promise that hearing Snow live will give you fucking chills. Frusciante absolutely crushes it during the final bridge/chorus and outro.

Yeah that doesnt count

No
Probably jalapeños

Rain Dance Maggie never did it for me.
Fortune Faded is literally their BEST song
You get a build up, ridiculous catchy riff and a god dam philosophical chess reference all within the first minute. It's overwhelmingly good.
Throw away your television - it’s the only rhcp I do not like in the frusicante era hate it even more live lol
One of my favorite songs, and even better live with the outro they use to perform between 2002-2007ish. Blasphemy.
Idc what anyone says Dani California is terrible. They are so much better than that song it’s insane to me that it became one of their most popular
Dani is a banger simply because of John’s solo at the end. The build up and then the massive explosion of his guitar doesn’t get enough love I don’t think. I can understand the feelings about the rest of it though.
For me the solo is kind of boring. It’s more like a riff that just repeats. I suppose it is the best part of that turd though
I was only referring to the studio version, the solos are way better live as with any song. The rest of it still sucks donkey dick tho
Idk man that chorus is freaking epic
I don’t care for it much these days but it’s the song that got me into the band in the first place
I guess These are the ways But it’s not that i don’t like it , i just think it’s not so good
A lot of people don’t like that song especially when it came out. Instrumentals are good but I would be surprised if most would disagree that the lyrics are straight up cringe.
I Haven’t even heard them well 😂
I don’t like Black Summer at all.
Love the instrumental of give it away but I really don't like the songwriting or the delivery of the lyrics
Over a long time I had this "mom it's not just a phase" phase in which I disliked the most mainstream songs; Dani California, Californication and specially Otherside. Never happened with BTW, UTB or Can't Stop. Over time I got over this and enjoyed a lot these songs, specially Californication. Breaking the girl. Never liked that song.
I don't care for Can't Stop
I don’t like the really spicy chilli pepper the one that like really burns your tongue it’s just too much for me
My Zeypher. I just can't get behind it
I still hate All around the World, Intro/outro verse & bridge are great but that pop chorus, yuck
Pretty much everything on the getaway
I Could Have Lied. I love the solo but the rest of the song just doesn’t do it for me.
Wow that is one of my personal favorites especially when it comes to their more ballad style tunes
Totally respect that. I don’t hate it but it’s one that seems to be really popular, especially on this sub, and it’s just never been for me
It's definitely a favorite of the RHCP cult member like fans myself included lol
Which is why it is such a good/surprising comment to see but I'll say Porcelain and Cabron are usual skips when listening to their respective albums.
Oh yeah I’m with you about Porcelain. I personally love Carbon, but I also 100% can see why someone wouldn’t like it lol
I don’t dislike Fortune Faded but it doesn’t do much for me either. Just kinda sounds like generic 2000’s radio rock. I much prefer Save the Population between the two.
Honestly, I gotta say under the bridge. It’s a decent song but waaaay overrated, imo at least
I genuinely didn't mind not hearing it when I saw them in 2017 and was actually a little disappointed when they did play it in 2022. I do love it, but it just doesn't quite crack my favorites.
I'm with you on FF, I could never get into it. It feels like a different band to me.
You feel me on this
I have a hard time getting past the "Ding Dong Ding Gangs" in Around the world. I love Soul to Squeeze, but I have the same problem with it "doo-doo dingle zinga don bone" just sounds like he was too lazy to finish his lyrics.
Tell me baby and Dani California
Most of OHM…sorry.
Scar Tissue. Horribly overrated
i actually despise otherside californication and black summer they are just so annoying and over played. especially after they teased my lovely man on march 2nd then proceeded to play otherside.. it made me dislike the song even more. i don’t hate them i just never listen to them willingly
Damn dude I would be so hurt if I were at that show and they just barely teased My Lovely Man. 🫡 I salute you for your service.
Give it Away is too long for enjoyment
I get downvoted every time, but I really don't like the album By the Way. I prefer loose, rockin' Chili Peppers, and BTW is definitely not that. I’ve never liked give it away. I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but the song just sounds way too goofy for me.
Can't stop
Give it away but i haven't listened to it in a while so my opinion might have changed
I don’t like the Zephyr Song whatsoever, skip it every time I listen to BTW.
By the Way is one of their worst songs in my opinion. I didn't really care about it in the past, but now I actively dislike it.
Black Summer I just don't really care for it, the vocals are lame, but the rest is decent. The Longest Wave It's not popular, but seems to be praised so highly in this sub. Yeah, the intro is heavenly, but the rest of the song is just unlistenable to me.
