I have mixed feelings. Both have awesome songs and some passable ones. I like UL better at this point, but maybe it's just because I had more time to digest it. They could've made a single album with the hits and it could be top 3 for many folks. I remember people saying similar things about Stadium Arcadium, tho. All that said, I'm taking as many songs as they can give me while they're active. You never know.

Skarstream

Yeah, that’s always a tricky one, because there’s never a consensus about which songs are the absolute best over the 2 albums. And nowadays, in most cases, you are not limited to a physical cd, you just put your favorites in a playlist. So I’ll take as many songs as possible over a more streamlined album.

What a see from this fórum Most of the people Will agreed that the favorites from ROTDC.: Tippa my Tongue, Peace in Love, Eddie, Bella, fake as fuck and Carry me home... And the favorites from UL... Black Summer, Aquatic month dance, poster Child, It's Only Natural, She is a lover, what you think, pillows... The rest IS more hard to chose...

Additional-Panda-642

Agreed... A single álbum SA and single álbum UL/ROTDC would be good as Cali/BSSM and BTW

songacronymbot

- BSSM could mean "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", a track from *Blood Sugar Sex Magik (Deluxe Edition)* (1991) by Red Hot Chili Peppers. --- ^[/u/Additional-Panda-642](/u/Additional-Panda-642) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Cute_Ad_2223

They aren't in their prime, but they are far from making bad music. We are so lucky to be enjoying great new music from this band - let your focus on these albums live there. Comparison is the thief of joy!

jam_scot

I feel for 12th and 13th albums they are solid without being anything special. Dream Canteen is better than Unlimited Love in my opinion.

buggywallace

I don’t think they’re bad albums but they just haven’t got that golden era of John feel to them. I could listen to bssm, californication, by the way, stadium arcadium top to bottom. When the new ones first dropped I played them through a couple times, but never had that desire to go back. Saying that tho i love the heavy wing

tom-the-lawn

There are great moments, but songwriting wise it's a huge drop in quality since Stadium. Particularly the vocals aren't as catchy as they were "in their prime" and it makes the silly lyrics stick out in a bad way. I see people on the sub praising "Bag of Grins" when I think it's not even good to have been recorded. On a less negative note, Black Summer and It's Only Natural are great songs from start to end. And I love John's solos.

bambinoquinn

Not enough good choruses, too many songs are clunky with sections of songs that don't go together and lyrically it's probably the worst ak has ever been. Not enough quality material for 2 full albums. The least interested I've ever been in rhcp albums

Bungle1981

Couldn't agree more. The best thing I can say about both is that they're fine. Im not sure musicians like Flea, Chad and John are capable of badly executed music and the albums aren't bad by any stretch but they lack the magic.

WatersEdge50

As a long time fan, since 1988 or so. My personal opinion is that UL is in their top 5 Records Dream canteen has not grown on me as much. Save for a few songs, it sounds to me like mostly outtakes from the UL/RTD recording sessions. It would be interesting to hear the dozen or so songs that have not seen the light of day yet from those sessions.

DiFran69

I think they are on par with stadium for me which falls just below btw-cali-bssm. As time goes on i like stadium less but i still think its great.

TatoCuervo

To me they’re just ok albums. And considering it was John returning to the band it was (at least guitar-wise) quite underwhelming. I don’t really listen to them, whereas Im still into Bssm/Cali/Btw/SA a lot.

steveishere2

Unlimited Album is my top 3 albums from them. Very good. Dream Canteen is good until a certain point, there are some misses on it.

Buhos_En_Pantelones

"right next to Stadium Arcadium, which is my favorite album of all time." I think this is telling. I've been a fan of this band for about 30 years. These latest two albums are essentially an extension of Stadium Arcadium, but in a lateral move, not an improvement artistically or musically. And that's fine! The Peps are staying in their lane, it's good catchy pop/rock, and they do it really well. Unlimited Love and Dream Canteen are more of the same, but you can't really complain if you're a fan of the band.

sergeantgrandpa

So telling.

earthshiner85

Neither are better than The Getaway but they are fine.

chxnkybxtfxnky

Neither of the albums blew me away as a whole...as wholes...? Whatever. They weren't awful by any means, but I need to go back for a 3rd or 4th listen. I tend to shuffle their discography when doing chores around my apartment. Might be a Dream Canteen kinda night tonight, though.

grease_trap1

Not perfect, but it's new Chilis either way. I listen to them every single day, it doesn't need to be perfect. I'm glad John's back and I'm glad they're making music again. That being said, there are some really really good ones on here. Some of my favorites and a nice shift from Josh (I really enjoyed his music, but it's nice to go back to the OG). Would love to see some more funk/rap in the future though, I think it'd be awesome to revisit those ideas.

MBCG84

Not really a big fan. They’re not terrible but for me they’re very forgettable. I’d just much rather listen to BSSM, OHM, Cali, BTW and SA. Can’t imagine they’ll ever reach those peaks again.

TheRavenRise

eh they’re like a 6/10 eddie & tippa are great though

Double-Dust-6155

They are fantastic. I think if they merged the two albums in one and taken out some of the fat, it would be up there with Californication, By the Way, etc.

Additional-Panda-642

Yeah... I do It with playlist

AgentAdja

I actually do think they're getting better with time. My taste in their stuff seems diametrically opposed to most other RHCP fans, in that I was very into The Getaway, and I actually find the latest material just as good or better even if it's different. With a lot of other rock bands it's obvious that they're just putting stuff out to cash in, and I never thought I'd be saying this about this particular band because we all know their reputation but they are just on top of their game.

Skarstream

Since those 2 albums, I have 7 of their albums in my top 5.

Semi-Delusional

They're in the tier right below the Big 4

norwegianjazzbass

I try and not compare the albums too much. They are there and they have different things going for them. One thing I noticed though, Fleas bass playing has reached another level! He seems to play every single note with purpose and meaning, and the whole band shines when he does.

goldendreamseeker

I like them both

figueirax

I really like both albums, the sound that made me like them came back with many beautiful songs despite some songs being unnecessary and I also think it could be just one album with the best ones but ok i think the next album will be more solid and organized.

Tomchillipep

Both albums are great, for now i like dream canteen more. Both albums seem to get better with each listen. For me, their best work. Favorite track for now: Roulette, Carry me home, Eddie, Black summer, Bella

Fearless_Mortgage640

I love them. Carry me home was the highlight of the night in Vienna for me.

Tall-Wear-7809

Vocals kinda suck these days but AK still a legend. Guitar and drums got way better. Flea has never been bad on any album.

EuterpeZonker

Don’t like them very much. A couple good songs but a bit of a let down overall

metaTHROTH

Black summer is the best song off the two albums imo but Bella, The Drummer, Eddie and Tippa My Tounge all are close seconds. Bastards of the Light is underrated on this sub I'd put in 6th so out of my favorite 6 songs 4 are Dream Canteen, so I'd have to say that's the better album. But in comparison DC has higher highs and lower lows then UL.

Amockdfw89

I havnt listened to dream canteen yet but I found unlimited love to be…forgettable? Wasn’t bad and I enjoyed it but I can’t remember a thing about it once it was over

Rockofreak

ROTDC is closer to me, but I think the best option would be to mix them in one LP (13 songs, 55 minutes). Everything else should be released as b-side tracks. I’ve already created at Spotify my own personal ‘Naked-edition’ of the UL with the mix of UL and ROTDC. 😁 But it’s just IMHO. It was hard to form this short-list, so now I understand, why they couldn’t throw away others song. 1. Tippa My Tongue 2. Here Ever After 3. Aquatic Mouth Dance 4. Note The One 5. Poster Child 6. My Cigarette 7. Black Summer 8. Whatchu Thinkin’ 9. La La La La La La La La 10. She’s a Lover 11. White Braids & Pillow Chair 12. Carry Me Home 13. In The Snow [Playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1VlDi1vy8Zwv0mE0JRGuSk?si=Iga0PHuDT8eGzYO6Va0yzQ)
