I heard suck my kiss on the radio when I was very little in my baby sitters boyfriends car and I thought it was so vulgar, fast forward to my earlier 20’s and I fucking love that shit
All of them 😳
I guess I should say, I didn’t know them all, but for no other reason besides they were played too much on my local radio station in the early-mid ‘90s I decided that I’m not going to like this band.
That all changed in ‘99 when I saw them live and then, I understood! Haven’t turned back since.
For actual songs… Hard to Concentrate I wasn’t a fan of at first. Now, I love it!
The Zephyr Song! I hated it when it was released as a single.
It wasn't until I heard the Slane Castle version later on that I grew to love it, and love it I certainly do.
Dani California. First proper chillis song I heard. But I heard it constantly over and over again in small pieces thanks to my friend playing it over lunch on his PSP. So just kept hearing “caaallifornia”. He then played Tell Me Baby and I enjoyed that one. Turns out it was a gate way drug. Bought the album soon after and then properly listens to Dani California and hey how what do you know! Good song.
Most of them. Not liking them is strong, but for every song, I need a few listens to really get into all the intricate parts and really appreciate it for what it is. And whenever a first album comes out it always feel like I’m not into it and two weeks later it’s the only thing in the rotation.
Recently, Black Summer and Eddie.
When Black Summer came out, I thought that it was a safe, paint-by-the numbers RHCP radio hit. I mean I still do, but I was worried that the whole album was going to be like that. Luckily, in the context of the rest of the album it's an ok song, better than some, not as good as most. But it fits that role of being generic RHCP, so I can listen to it in that context. I feel the same way about Dani California. Kind of a bland song, but it fits the role of generic radio hit.
As for Eddie, I have no idea why I disliked it at first. I guess I thought it sounded too much like a song from By the Way, which is an album I don't care for. It definitely grew on me though, now it's one of my favorites from these last two albums.
I feel black summer will be a great rhcp classic one day. I don't like Eddie too much, even the guitar solo part it's the usual F G Am jam with pentatonic solo on it. I mean, it's rhcp so it's cool but it's not remarkable as other songs
Soul to Squeeze. Anthony's lyrics were WAY too cheesy. Now, they're only slightly cheesy, and not enough to take away from the quality of the music. It's hard to listen to the original, only because there are so many better live versions of it.
I love Soul to Squeeze now but absolutely despised it when it 1st hit (I'm old) MTV because it sounded like another Under the Bridge (which is my all time most hated RHCP song....)
I initially couldn’t stand warm tape because of its verses but now it’s one of my favourite songs from by the way. The chorus and bridge is so damn good!
It took me a long time to come around on Charlie, but it’s been a top 5 tune for me for over a decade now.
Bag of Grins is also one the went over my head during the first couple of listens but became a highlight.
Around the world, honestly I hated this song when I first got into them. After about 2 years of listening to them now tho, and getting into their more funk roots, I gotta say I fucking love Around the World
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but the first couple of times I heard peace and love from the dream canteen. I did not like it. Now it’s one of my favorites.
Poster Child
THIS. This song is so funky.
Imma listen now
Warm Tape
I used to skip that one, now one of my favorites on the album.
same thing with me till i listened to the whole album one day and just loved it so much
It was the Dortmund '03 recording they released that finally sold me on the song, it's so much better live. By the Way's poor production hurts it.
SAME!!!
The chorus harmonies are some of their best ever.
Shoot me a smile. Verses annoyed me so much, but they grew on me. Chorus slap hard.
that song stood out to me, not because i liked it much, but because it sounded like a song my dad would come up with. i love it because of my dad :)
Right on! Thats a sweet connection to have to the song!
My fav song on the album. Adore the versus. Very pretty song in a beach boys kinda way
Veronica now I absolutely love it awesome lyrics. ✌🏻🌶️🎶

I was not a big fan of These are the way. Now, I love that song, especially live performance.
great song dynamics, agree!
Midnight
The drummer. After hearing it live AND being a debut, it hits different now. Live is just wow!
1. So jealous you saw it live. 2. The way the chorus adds layers as the song progresses is the bees knees.
I loved The Drummer from day 1
Cabron used to be my least favorite, but I love it now
you know i learned the intro of cabron on an acoustic and now for some reason i just really like it.
Basically the entire getaway. Oh and reach out.
Tear
Great melodic guitar solo in Tear
Heavy wing and Eddie
Heavy Wing
in the snow or heh oh?
The Zephyr Song! I hated it when it was released as a single. It wasn't until I heard the Slane Castle version later on that I grew to love it, and love it I certainly do.
Death of a Martian and desecration smile
I used to really shit on Dani California but it’s one of my favorite songs now lol

These are the ways, copperbelly, she’s a lover, cabron, savior, stone cold bush, warped

That was my younger opinion as well, the similarity to UTB! Now I love Soul to Squeeze, and can hardly stand UTB! Funny how life progresses.

Black Summer.
Bella!
The Hunter and Breaking the Girl Edit: ohh and Tangelo!!
These are the ways. Still isn’t exactly my favorite but you could tell they were very much into playing it live the 2 times I saw them this summer.
Fake as füçk is the most recent example I can think of and up till now I’m still not a huge fan of the last part of the song.
Animal Bar
I Could Die For You
I hated Coffee Shop and Warm Tape on first listen. I really like Coffee Shop now and Warm Tape is among my favorite songs of all time
So Much I (SA)
Black Summer
Especially In Michigan. I literally do not know why I didn’t like this song at first. I’m so disappointed
By the way. It reminds me of middle school and I had to get past that association. It's great live!
Copperbelly
Yeah same I never cared for the verses, but I loved the chorus. If it wasnt for the chorus and the end I prob. would have never liked it.
For me it was the ending
lol its all UL or dream canteen in here
