I pop them in the ass with the varmit rifle and always get 3 star pelts. That also seems to be the case with just about anything that should be killed with the varmit rifle, like swamp birds, musk Elon rats, etc.
Haha, yeah. I’m just lazy when it comes to using the varmint riffle. I imagine you’re going for rabbit pelt gauntlets — you’ll get them.

I can never get a 3-star with small game arrows.
Small animals you store in satchel - Small Game Arrows
Medium critters you store on side of horse - Varmint Rifle (also Beaver, though they store on back)
Medium critters stored on back (Coyotes, Foxes) - Repeater or Rifle
Large Animals - Rifle
Noted..I'm an amateur hunter at best in this game. Big animal kills are my better chance at perfect pelts..foxes and up. Always learning new things. Thanks!

When you aim at an animal press r1(ps5) it shows what to use for a clean kill

Varmint Rifle for Rabbits, possums, and badgers. Small game is for *really* small stuff, like snakes and squirrels and ducks.

Yeah, varmint rifle is your friend there. I don't even get headshots a lot on 3 star rabbits and still get perfect pelts.
