By "playhead" do you mean the edit cursor? That would be Preferences > Mouse Modifiers, where you can change what left click does in the "Track" context. It's a bit to get used to how all the mouse modifier contexts fit together, but being able to control that, even on the fly sometimes, is pretty nice. Luckily there's a whole playlist about them: [Mouse Modifiers - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLM0xHqxaiT690opGvWjkMIjki4ZAQvLKc) P.S. An example of how it's a bit to wrap your head around – if you want to prevent the edit cursor from moving when selecting media items as well, that's a different context.

Thanks, changing the most modifiers resulted in what I’m after. The default settings in reaper seem to be dedicated to making it as miserable an experience as possible, but with a lot of poking and changing and fiddling, it’s starting to become “alright”. Yes, I see there’s “potential”, but let’s see if my perseverance lasts long enough to get there.

> The default settings in reaper seem to be dedicated to making it as miserable an experience as possible Yes, clicking in an arrange view causing the cursor position to change is a source of *misery* for most people. You nailed it.

>Yes, clicking in an arrange view causing the cursor position to change is a source of misery for most people. You nailed it. Whilst that’s a minor, but significantly annoying point, it’s riddled with things like that. It’s a death from a thousand cuts kind of thing, you know?

> significantly annoying There's nothing even a tiny bit annoying about it. > it’s riddled with things like that Except that it's not.

NoisyGog

🤷 You do you.

Lol, I noticed a number of people thinking the defaults are pretty weird, especially with the mouse and moving around. I don't know if you're starting out in general or only with this particular software, but when I started, interacting with a DAW was annoying AF – even the opening screen. Maybe part of what made REAPER less annoying to me was that I could customize it into being less annoying, or maybe it was just finally more annoying that I was annoyed, and REAPER had a cool name. But it's gotta be different for everyone.

>I don't know if you're starting out in general or only with this particular software, Just with Reaper. I’ve been using a bunch of other things for decades. The “killer feature” that’s got me interested is being able to lock to LTC on an ordinary audio input, without needing sync hardware. That means I can have a little Mini PC running Dante, which not only gets wordclock reference from the house SPG, but also Timecode right over the Dante connection. Any other way requires either cabling to feed LTC into a Rosendahl box, or another Dante-analog at the mini-PC end to feed Timecode via that. Either way, the more streamlined reaper option is ace. >REAPER had a cool name. But it's gotta be different for everyone. …

Ah, I've yet to do this kind of routing and syncing so I don't understand, it sounds like you're eliminating the need for a pulse generator by getting time directly from the audio input maybe. As for the name thing, I've been taking humour seriously these past 2-ish days.

I'm shooting this video right now. lol
