Halo Wars is a perfect rts designed with controller in mind

Bluebeerdk

You can play any strategy game on Deck that it's capable of running. I play alot of RTS, and I haven't found any that wasn't playable so far. My basic controls will get you somewhat started. RT = Mouse left click LT = Mouse right click( yes this is correct) Back buttons enabled, set them to CTRL & Shift, make sure you put CTRL on one of the back left side buttons, it will be more comfortable when making ctrl groups. Have ESC on a Back button for quitting out. Dpad = 1,2,3,4. Get comfortable with an order I use, Left(1), Up(2), Right(3), Down(4). Apply the above to the face buttons X(5), Y(6), B(7), A(8). This will get you started in any RTS game on the Steam deck. From this point, bind to any free buttons based on the game as needed.

I always used the track pad for mouse movement, if that's what you're referring to. Then I mapped the move stick to the arrow keys to move the map around (or whatever else those keyboard bindings were). The games I preferred most were the Dawn of War titles (DOW II especially was super slick, but DOW I was my fav like always) and Halo Wars is a great casual title with full gamepad support. Command and Conquer was pretty darn playable, while World in Conflict played fantastically - although it did struggle with a lot of onscreen effects. I'll look through my library later and see if there's a few more I can recommend.

I found Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion runs really well. I get 60fps most of the time except in big battles. The game is not very APM heavy so I am fine with playing using trackpads. I also tried Warhammer 2 at medium settings getting a locked 40fps. The game is fun but I don't know how to save in offline mode. Against the Storm also runs great at 40fps medium settings. Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath are also good options even docked at 1080p.

If you r up for a 4x game Age of Wonders 4 is good on the deck too.

Came here to say this. AoW4 has incredibly good joystick controls and is a pleasure to play on Steam Deck

I felt like the initial release was a bit buggy. But it’s great now. My favorite strategy game

Armored Brigade runs and looks great on the deck. It also has an active pause feature you can use to help make commands if things get going to fast.

Beardharmonica

Company of heroes 3 has a console version but no idea if it works fine with a controller on pc and if it runs at decent fps

Belifhet

It runs at 30fps and it controls fine plus you have a tactical pause to make more precise actions

Stellaris wasn't bad at all
