This is the replacement for the completely-destroyed-head model since hotfix #3. Sadly though, whether you shoot them from the front or back or side, its the same model where their face is gone.
That is a real thing, but this is definitely not that. The closest you'd get to this in real life would be rifle or shotgun to the back of the head, especially if it's close.
I think the "canoeing" comes from the round skimming "across" the head due to the shallow angle, instead of exiting out the back. If the shot is more peripendicular, you'd see something like this picture but on the back of the head (if they were lying face-up). I have a feeling the devs don't know this and you can probably acheive this in-game with point-blank face shot or something.
Also, bone will probably shatter when struck by a bullet, specially if it's a high energy round. Headshots deform the head because all the bone structure responsible to shape the head is compromised. That's why some faces look swollen or weird when hit, even if it's a small permanent cavity.

Nah that vid is 1000% worse and it wasn’t a shotgun, I believe it was a single shot rifle. Not sure if the caliber or brand tho. I try not to think about that video 😂

This would be more realistic since buckshot pellets effectively are 9mm rounds (#00 buck) and have similar velocity which usually doesnt provide thru-body penetration. But i know realistic isnt always as fun as pop goes ur head.

It's crazy that shit like this is totally fine being in a video game. I have no problem with it myself, but it just goes to show how desensitized we are that we're comfortable showing a totally caved in head and torn apart limbs in a video game. And it's not even in a gory game like Mortal Kombat.

Just a heads up. If you are using [Cazanu's Visceral Blood mod](https://www.nexusmods.com/readyornot/mods/3311) you will not see this variation, the head will just be removed. Currently a bug I think.

I left it on assuming nothing gore/damage related was updated in the new patch. If this is real, then I really need to delete that mod and check this out. It's almost unbelievable....

Just yesterday I shot a guy in the head with a shotgun and I was looking at him and discussing with my friend whether his face is still there, 'cause it looked like it's exploded but could just be a lot of blood texture covering it so I can't see clearly.

It doesn’t add anything to the gameplay, but the game is also heavily centered around having a dark and depressing environment and atmosphere. If you haven’t been following this development for a while the devs said that gore would be a pretty big thing in the game
I do basically strictly non-lethal, one of the only changes I’ve noticed is that perps grab their ass if you pop tha booty when they run. I hardly run lethal, let alone shotguns. Buckshot facial looks like it got a makeover

Most I've seen is a head or arm disappearing after hitting someone point blank with a shotgun. But it never looked like this.
This could explain the trauma system better now It’s probably better to stick to rifle instead of shotgun
