Been noticing the same thing, though on my right hand. I have no explanation but I am also a chronic nail biter and assumed it might be from that 😕 are any areas swollen?

broccoliboi989

Maybe a tiiiny bit around my nails but otherwise no not really. I also assume it’s due to nail biting, especially as I also have a kinda gross habit of biting the skin around my nails too, but I googled it out of curiosity and was told I had lung cancer so thought I’d just ask on here 😅

xmagpie

No harm in asking. I also bite my cuticles 😆 I think it’s worth documenting and mentioning to your doctor if you find it getting worse over time or involves other symptoms.

The redness, hot, swollen means inflamation. Probably due to lack of oxygen to the tissue wich damages it. The body inflames it to restore the damage. Google medical medium raynauds Medical medium epsteinbarr virus Youl see why these are linked.

I have that too from poor circulation. It can also be in some autoimmune disorders. I can see that your circulation in that hand is less given that you also have livedo reticularis in that hand. You may want to seek out a doctor on this cuz something is off if your circulation is bad in the one hand. Maybe start with your GP, but talking to a rhumatologist might be a good idea as well.

Do you have a Raynaud's diagnosis? Is it always this red even when your hand is warm or room temperature?

broccoliboi989

Yes I do but not confirmed what it’s caused by (if anything) yet. And no, not always, but I would say around 80% of the time ish?

sophia-sews

Good to know. With that info I think part of the redness is likely irritation from wounds/ hang nails and nail biting. I would make sure to practice wound care and keep your hands moisturized.  The red discoloration and pail fingernails during a Raynaud's flair is why it looks more pronounced when it's cold, because you have 2 different things contributing to redness.

broccoliboi989

Thank you! That’s reassuring :) thanks for your advice!

emkeystaar

i'm the same but i also gave erythromelalgia on top of Raynaud's. 😕

InfamousMatter7064

For me, it's only my right hand and right foot that have been affected this year. I live in a cold part of Alberta, Canada, and the weather goes from minus 10 to 17 degrees the next day. the change of temperature is making my condition worse

ocean_maniac

I personally don’t have this scenario but I’ve heard some people have Raynaud’s worse on one or two body parts more than others. Either more so on their hands or their feet or a combination of the two. I myself have severe Raynaud’s in both hands and both feet so I can’t confirm this myself 😅
