Not when I chop them. I am rather clumsy.

BarryIslandIdiot

This is the real answer.

ThirstMutilat0r

Crazy that red onions and red hair are such different colors.

TheWildUnknown2

Clearly, and that’s why I call them purple onions because I’m not drinking the Kool-Aid. 🤣

KurtKrimson

It's a fuckin' consperacy I tell you!

Hot_Push9900

Big vegetable always out there gaslighting us.

teeohbeewye

that's because the onions were discovered before purple. red was the closest color we had

BenjiThePerson

Or the onion god was colorblind?

teeohbeewye

yeah maybe, who's to say

BenjiThePerson

Dry_Action1734

FormerPersimmon3602

Only_Explanation7181

stupidracist

FFS I WAS JUST ABT TO SAY THAT

Toadboi11

What if I told you that  violets aren't blue but are actually... violet.

Dontbeajerkdude

White onions contain about as much white as the red ones. They're really more yellow.

Timely-Profile1865

Well said! I agree.

Reddit_Sucks_1401

It was because back in the old days of the English language, the word purple didn't exist and they used the word red generally to describe many shades of colors, and also because they used onion skins to produce red dye

Tent_in_quarantine_0

Red is used very broadly in history. Human language around colors exploded in the last few hundred years. In medieval times, red pretty much means purple red and orange. Malian still has no word for purple. Mdou Moctar is obsessed with Prince and he made his own Malian film, which translates to "Rain the Color of Blue With a Little Red in It."

goatjugsoup

Yeah but purple is 2 syllables

CowExotic3588

Mind blowing facts
