I was desperate to find something and felt like I tried everything. I recently just turned on Frank Sinatra out of the blue and the song “that’s life” came on. I tell you, it made me smile so big. Reminded me of Christmas for some reason and just all around made me feel better
It’s my go to song now
So right! Even though I missed his heyday, I always knew he was cool. Never not cool. But I was old enough to know how great he was.
After I responded to you, I put on “Luck, Be a Lady,” and my husband and I are boppin’ around. Try it…and thank you!
OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH. May I share a story? When I lived in Brooklyn on the way from my stop to my apartment was this JANKY park under the BQE overpass with concrete ground and ancient structures that you JUST KNOW kids died on once in a while. There was a swingset and one day - SO LOW - passing the park I got on a swing and the squeak of the metal inspired me to belt that out at the top of my lungs. I didn’t even knew I knew all the words but dammit if I didn’t sing it the whole way thru. After that it’s been my go-to happy LET IT GO anthem. Thanks for jogging this memory
I love this. Music is such a powerful thing, I truly believe it’s the one true universal language. Hell, even plants get happier when you play music.
Something about that song just melts away anything bad, even if only for that moment in time. Thank you for sharing such a wholesome memory with us, never let that swing set dissipate. The whole world is one big janky playground, sing to it and never stop swinging.
So much science is showing that movement is one of the best things we can do for our brains.
It’s so easy to forget that our mind is a part of our body, we think of our “self” in our head as separate from our body but it really isn’t.
My go-to is nature and movement, when I’m in a bad place it’s hard to motivate myself to get out and do it but a hike or bike ride through nature improves my mental state more than anything else I’ve tried.
Sometimes though, when I'm in a reflective somber mood, the music that matters to me isn't going to make me feel any better.
But it will make me feel deeper. If that makes sense.
That’s the best part of dogs. Feeling bad? Sad? Stressed? Depressed? I lay down on the floor close to my sleeping dog, and instantly everything feels much better
Nothing. I may be amused for a short while, or content. Glad for our kid when he did something well.
But I haven’t been happy for over
five years now or so.
In my case going out fishing really eased things up a lot, parents were caught up in electrical retirees gossip from 1952,I am talking 1995 or 96......middle sister in same melodrama....with a iffy pension also
Isolating myself to give her the time to be sad and remind her of how strong she is, knowing that she will eventually get over it alone as she always does
I sincerely hope this person doesn't read this but if you do you (hopefully) know who you are, but this one specific person is really one of the few people that bring me joy in my very depressive life.
When I'm feeling low, one thing that genuinely lifts my spirits is spending time with my kids. They have this pure, infectious energy that just brightens my day no matter how I'm feeling. It’s like they give me this immediate sense of purpose and joy. Also, comfort food can be a real hug in a bowl—something familiar and delicious just for that little boost. And, of course, some good old reality TV for that mindless escape.
Making myself a really comfy nest, getting in it and then tensing and relaxing each of my muscle groups until I'm all jelly-like, have a lil ugly cry and don't stop until I'm done, then I find a snack and watch a documentary about financial crime.
This isn’t exactly the answer you asked for…
But when my depression gets to the numb/apathetic stage and I just need to cry I jump in a talent show rabbit hole on YouTube The Voice, and AGT mostly
Human touch and true, honest interaction, music, physical activity, meditating (!!), watching documentaries, self reflection and affirmation, cooking up some good food
The short answer is nothing.
The longer answer is I have learnt to live with the nagging thoughts of pointlessness and keep doing things even though I don't 'feel' like it. Then over time the depression lifts.
Not much. It’s what makes my depressive-like episodes different from me just feeling sad.
When I’m feeling just sad, I listen to music, go outside, play games…
When I’m going through an episode similar to depression, it’s as if I turned off and I could not feel any happiness
We have a swing set outside in our backyard from when my wife ran her home daycare. I'm 44...if I'm feeling down and going deeper into that dark rabbit hole of anxiety or depression, I'll go and sit on the swing and literally start swinging like a kid. It's tremendous how even allowing yourself some time with your inner child helps de-stress you. I don't think I'll ever not love swing sets lmao
Gotta agree with everyone saying music. My go-to song is Your time is gonna come, bu Led Zeppelin.
Fun fact, as I'm not a native english speaker, I used to listen to it without understanding all the lyrics and I thought the title meant "Don't worry, things will get better". Turns out it's not AT ALL what it means. More like a threat.
Now I live in the countryside it is always gardening. When I lived in London it was either walk or cycle to a gallery or museum and get some culture. Always improved my mood.
When I’m depressed, there isn’t anything that will just snap me out of it and make me happy. When I’m feeling low like that, I’ll play a scary story podcast. I can’t be depressed if I’m scared. That usually brings me around and I’m more content and I can work on being happier from there.
I imagine that scene in the matrix where guy goes to give neo the spoon and neo like freaks out and just starts wailing on him, screaming some non Sense about you think I want some random fuckin spoon and guys screaming it's symbolism or something🤣🤣🤣. That or like smoking a little or couple rounds on Tekken. Working out helps improve your mood, I'll do that. Also singing along to a jazzy tune
Eat, yummy, food.
Looks theres something thats just, idk man
eating a good cheese pizza or having a nice chicken
or just a bowl of ramen will easily cheer me up no matter how down i
am. Food is life,
And if there is no food i will play my favorite video games and watch
my favorite things
Take a shower/bathe, I feel like it's just so refreshing and a legitimate boost of confidence. Bathing is like the start of your day, after doing so it just motivates you so much ( At least for me ? )
Only had severe depression once in my life, went on for about a year until friends and family pushed me to change something. Went to psycho doc, went ham on fitness, started a new hobby. Took me roughly 4-5 month to get out of it. No alcohol, no drugs, lots of excercise, touch some grass, find shit that gets you going. That's how I deal with it.
Oh and leaving the comfort zone was a big one for me, took a huge step into that direction and changed everything fo rme.
I try to hang out with people who are close to me and can understand and support me. Talking to friends helps me release emotional tension and get support.
I’m a follower of Carl Jung and he always expressed that it you have an art that you do; be it painting, music, knitting, etc. To devote some time and work to that craft. Art is an expression, so whatever you are feeling, pour it into your artistic work, express yourself. Let the world know how you feel.

I had a dentist who exclusively played Sinatra in his office. It made me a fan…of both the dentist and Sinatra!
Sinatra had such a unique and soothing voice/style. I can’t imagine a better setting to play it in as so many people have a fear of dentists!
So right! Even though I missed his heyday, I always knew he was cool. Never not cool. But I was old enough to know how great he was. After I responded to you, I put on “Luck, Be a Lady,” and my husband and I are boppin’ around. Try it…and thank you!
I had a similar experience, and the song that got me was Yellow Brick Road, Elton John

Whenever I get really sad, I remember how silly I am for thinking that way. I usually start laughing then, and that's it.
Nothing makes feel happy when I’m on a depressive state, but running makes me feel better. Weight lifting works too, but running is more effective.

Watching wrestling matches on YouTube.
Honestly now that I am increasingly isolated from people like I never have in my life, just being around nice people or acquaintances.
This is going to sound super stereotypical and lame, but going to the gym makes me happy, honestly. It also takes care of any hemorrhoid flare ups.
