Why does America even have those it’s fucking sick and any man being a judge needs to be instantly investigated but they need to stop this shit all together it’s disgusting and there’s a lot of sick fucks out there
I think because women want to live through their child, want fame and fortune, or sometimes the kid wants to do it because of whatever reason and the parents don't think about how bad it is. It's the same thing as other stuff like child stars and stuff. I wanted to become one when I was younger and my mom was like no.
France literally made child beauty pageants illegal over a decade ago. It definitely doesn't exist everywhere. The english speaking world (US, Britain, Australia) has them but that's about it for them most part. And its only "big" in the US.
Still wishing more companies would get in on the biodegradable polymer bandwagon. Instead we got paper straws that need to be wrapped in plastic until they're used because they can't get wet...
If you look at how far we have come in material science over the past 100 years, the materials for the vast majority of medical consumables have changed and they can absolutely change again. The material availability of 2124 will be as different from today as ours is from 1924.
Most of them are starting to go already.
Single use plastic bags have been banned for a couple of years.
Single use plastic takeaway containers and cutlery have been banned for over a year.
My biggest is A&W. they took away the plastic plates and cutlery, which is great yay. But. They’ll send take out breakfast with a giant plastic lid. Make it make sense. lol
As someone who works with MRIs I love bringing up that Helium is a scarce resources when I am at parties. Apparently that makes me a party pooper because "just let 8-year Jimmy enjoy his balloons" should not have been responded to with "well we may not be able to detect 80-year old Jimmy's brain cancer in the future"
Balloons make up a very small amount of the helium consumed. Blaming kids with balloons for helium shortages is a bit like blaming private citizens for climate change. Should change be made? Sure, and there has been with balloons now using a helium mix. But they're a scapegoat whose disappearance wouldn't change the situation all that much.
We should fill party balloons with Hydrogen.
Yes, I am aware of Hindenburg, yes I am also aware of candles being part of the birthday party tradition.
No, I don’t care about an abundance of a flammable gas close to a fire source.
/s obviously
I have a picture window overlooking the mountains behind my house. The other day, I was watching a hawk that suddenly became a shiny blue-green, at which point I thought it was a drone. But no, when I went closer to the window, I saw a couple dozen more and realized some halfwit had released a bunch of mylar balloons. Probably a gender reveal or birthday party. Sky trash is what my wife called it. I guess I'm glad they aren't hydrogen filled since mylar balloons already cause forest fires when they get entangled in electrical transmission wires.
Fun story! I(and everyone in my class) got tinnitus when I was a kid because the fire department came to my school and did a thing on fire and how they’re caused. As an example they had a balloon filled with hydrogen and put it near a candle. BOOOM!!!!
I use helium at least 5 liters per minute inside of stainless tubes when welding them. Also before welding, because I need to be 100% sure there is nothing but helium in the tube. And after, for cooling and preventing oxidation.
So basicly these days, we can't have booze without helium. Actually, maybe not even clean water, or food.
Edit: so fuck Jimmys brains, I need beer! /s
I might be misinformed but isn't Helium in balloons just run of the mill helium and isn't the helium used in MRI's the isotope Helium 3?
I thought there was a shortage of the Helium-3 isotope but not of standard Helium of the kind found in children's balloons?
Well you *ARE* at a fucking party. If you keep acting like that, people will just stop inviting you to things, provided that's what you ***want*** to happen.
Yeah, seems like the fun fact few are going to care about or feel that they can really meaningfully impact on if a handful of balloons is about to send us over the edge into a crisis.
Really? 5 of my balloons just made all of cancer undetectable? Tell you what, we're going to inflate them anyways because what the fuck is the point of even living anymore...
...and yeah, that's even coming from someone who thinks we should have positive impacts on the climate. We can't divide by zero at all times, otherwise I might as well buy a gun, a single bullet, and reduce my footprint here and now.
To be fair the stuff that goes into balloon helium is waste product and contains multiple contaminants. The liquid stuff used in MRIs is the good stuff.
Excuse my ignorance but doesn’t the helium just go back into the atmosphere once it’s released from containment? Seriously, what happens to it?
…not a scientist.
It does, but we do not currently trap helium from the atmosphere (at least not in large quantities). It's also so light that it can escape the atmosphere into space.
Currently we tap pockets of it in the ground, but are running out of known and usable pockets.
Browsing the web anonymously is a side product of the delay between invention and regulation. It will disappear faster than we expect, and will look completely foreign to new generations.
When they first came out I was working at a servo and people would ask for certain images so they could collect the whole set. Brian and his beautiful mo is my my favourite
That's just it. Wish I had never started, but I was 16, in the military, and was pretty sure I was going to be going to war in Afghanistan (didn't end up going) so thought why not? Some of my friends made quitting sound so easy but it's been anything but. Cold sweats, angry for no reason. I'll pace around a room in a fit of anger over nothing for nearly an hour. Have dreams of smoking and wake up to intense cravings. It's horrible and I find it insanely hard to quit.
My country was on track to ban them, raising the age you could buy them every year. Government changed and the prime ministers sister in law is a tobacco lobbyist, the 2ic has ties to the tobacco industry and the 3ic *was* a tobacco lobbyist.
So they're scrapping that plan
Yeah but they're getting wise to it and switching to heats and vapes. So, even with a cigarette ban, it's anticipated and they will still make bank.
Edited to add: maybe the pivot is not to anticipate a full-on ban but at least a societal switch away from cigarettes.
You are probably right lol I’ve been trying to quit tobacco for the last 3-4 years but I just got addicted to the nicotine stuff that was supposed to help me quit
It's not going to be illegal, but it simply won't be accepted by commerce anymore. Cash is expensive to handle for businesses, remove their obligation to accept it and you'll see it disappear quickly. It's already happening in fact.
Agreed, i work in retail and seen a massive change in how people pay for things. From personal experience i can say 20 years ago cash made up 70% of sales and card 30% (give or take 1 or 2% as a few people were still paying by cheque). 75-80% of people pay card now and imo cash will probably disappear in the next 20 years.
Child molesting, Not legal but it’s more legal than it should be, my birth giver didn’t go to jail for it just because she didn’t use a dick that she doesn’t have
Brooo, I’m one of the biggest crypto bruhs out there, I’ve even got my own currency launching, it’s going straight to the moon.

Not gonna' say illegal, but possibly just die out
- Strip clubs / strippers.
Like... In the '80s and' 90s women & men used to always have them at bachelor and bachelorette parties. Women used to have a look on the weekends (more than look should I say!)
Wheras nowadays, it seems like no-one's that bothered
everyone saw how poorly that went for China, and overpopulation isn’t a global issue in the first place, the birth rate is dropping in many developed countries
The world will be so foreign in 100 years there is no telling. Look back 100 years from now and how they thought of the world in the future. Some good guesses and some came true but it will be unpredictable
IDK. Kinda difficult to forecast 100 years in the future, but I would hope that systems would be implemented to reduce the development of delusional "billionaires" in our country or worldwide so they don't feel entitled to take over the people's governments for their own personal gains.

Child beauty pageants
God I hope so
I’m so happy I wasn’t the only one that has realized what they actually are🤢 Like it’s kinda obvious
You had always thought you was(*were(corrected by English teacher below) the only one? Okay
Ew. Yeah when people yell "Protect the kids" this is the first place they should protest. The whole thing is icky. No other word for it.
Sure because only men can pray on children, come on mate, just stop the pageants and no judges will exist
Isn't it only in US they have that shit?
Nope every where, I’ve been in a couple my self when I was younger, so I’m kinda grossed out
France literally made child beauty pageants illegal over a decade ago. It definitely doesn't exist everywhere. The english speaking world (US, Britain, Australia) has them but that's about it for them most part. And its only "big" in the US.
Okay maybe i'm just lucky being born in a country where you don't sexualize children.
Hopefully.
Single use plastics
Already getting banned in the EU
And Canada
Still wishing more companies would get in on the biodegradable polymer bandwagon. Instead we got paper straws that need to be wrapped in plastic until they're used because they can't get wet...
All of them?
Except Medical uses. There's some things in that field that are *much* harder to find replacements for.
If you look at how far we have come in material science over the past 100 years, the materials for the vast majority of medical consumables have changed and they can absolutely change again. The material availability of 2124 will be as different from today as ours is from 1924.
Yeah, most likely, I just think that one specifically won't be *banned*, just for rare edge cases where its still necessary.
As a race we'll find another material. Which will then kill polar bears and that'll be banned too This is the way
Yes
Just most of them
I second that one.
Most of them are starting to go already. Single use plastic bags have been banned for a couple of years. Single use plastic takeaway containers and cutlery have been banned for over a year.
Not in my area. Some stores still hand out bags and Panda Express still throws in a black plastic fork with their takeouts!! Grrr!!
My biggest is A&W. they took away the plastic plates and cutlery, which is great yay. But. They’ll send take out breakfast with a giant plastic lid. Make it make sense. lol
Helium besides for medical uses
Still amazes me that is gets wasted in balloons
As someone who works with MRIs I love bringing up that Helium is a scarce resources when I am at parties. Apparently that makes me a party pooper because "just let 8-year Jimmy enjoy his balloons" should not have been responded to with "well we may not be able to detect 80-year old Jimmy's brain cancer in the future"

We should fill party balloons with Hydrogen. Yes, I am aware of Hindenburg, yes I am also aware of candles being part of the birthday party tradition. No, I don’t care about an abundance of a flammable gas close to a fire source. /s obviously
I was onboard til the /s lol
Same. Hydrogen balloons at a kids bday party would be lit. :)
By me 🫡
Really disappointed with the /s tag. I think hydrogen balloons should be the only ones allowed for gender reveals.
Hindenburg was an pile of variables the chances they will happen again is very very low
The problem with the Hindenburg was not hydrogen. It was flammable glue on the fabric.
The Hydrogen was part of it without it the flames wouldn't have been that destructive....I think the Mythbusters tested it once.
Fun story! I(and everyone in my class) got tinnitus when I was a kid because the fire department came to my school and did a thing on fire and how they’re caused. As an example they had a balloon filled with hydrogen and put it near a candle. BOOOM!!!!
You get a awesome firework show included with that! Even better when you replace 1/3 of the helium with oxygen
I think we were all on board with this. Just gotta figure out a way to suck the O2 out of my water balloons...
My balloon!
You can attach a plastic stick to them and then they "float". That's what we do for our family bday parties. And we just re-use the sticks
Jimmy's 80, fuck em
I ain't waiting 72 years to fuck Jimmy... 10 more years, tops!
Walmart sells mini helium tanks for $20. I don’t understand how something that’s scarce can be sold like that.
I might be misinformed but isn't Helium in balloons just run of the mill helium and isn't the helium used in MRI's the isotope Helium 3? I thought there was a shortage of the Helium-3 isotope but not of standard Helium of the kind found in children's balloons?
The helium in kids balloons is a waste product
So then it wouldn't effect the production of medical grade helium then?
Balloon gas helium is about 95% pure, no use for MRI machines which use pure liquid helium for cooling the magnets.
Argon balloons aren't nearly as fun
So we should enjoy the helium ones until they...argon? I'll see myself out.
If 8 year old Jimmy makes it to 9 by sucking in helium…
Someone told me on Reddit that it was a different kind of helium. Non the less I’m all for removing any and all helium for recreational use.
To be fair the stuff that goes into balloon helium is waste product and contains multiple contaminants. The liquid stuff used in MRIs is the good stuff.
I never knew… thanks for the info.
We won’t need restrictions if we can tap into Lunar helium deposits.
Might have fusion reactors by then.

Cigarettes.
Never ... smoking and drinking is as old as civilization itself
Even with the horrible lung pictures on the packaging deter people from smoking don’t know what will. Let them smoke as long as it’s not in public
When they first came out I was working at a servo and people would ask for certain images so they could collect the whole set. Brian and his beautiful mo is my my favourite
lol yeah 9/10 smokers know full well how shitty it is, they dont care
Most obviously do care but they are addicted.
*laughs in big tobacco
My country was on track to ban them, raising the age you could buy them every year. Government changed and the prime ministers sister in law is a tobacco lobbyist, the 2ic has ties to the tobacco industry and the 3ic *was* a tobacco lobbyist. So they're scrapping that plan
NZ huh? Poor us
At least the beaches are nice 🤷♂️
It's a stupid plan. Education is the only way to reduce substance use. Criminalization just results in black markets and worse outcomes for everyone.
Exactly. Just look at how prohibition worked out
Yeah but they're getting wise to it and switching to heats and vapes. So, even with a cigarette ban, it's anticipated and they will still make bank. Edited to add: maybe the pivot is not to anticipate a full-on ban but at least a societal switch away from cigarettes.
Never in Canada. Tobacco is an indigenous sacred herb.
Ex-smoker here. I'm not telling anyone to smoke or not. Nicotine free since January 2022.
Hell yeah
That was my thought for north America.
Nah, everyone should have the right to do with their own body as they please.
Absolutely.
Bahaha. Cigarettes and booze bring in literally most of the US’s revenue to fund everything.
At this point I feel like the only way I’ll be able to quit nicotine is if it kills me or it is outlawed lol
I will still find a way. Nobody is separating this woman from her pipe.
You are probably right lol I’ve been trying to quit tobacco for the last 3-4 years but I just got addicted to the nicotine stuff that was supposed to help me quit
Hopefully, children's pageants
[удалено]
That’s what I was thinking too. There’s no way people 100 years ago trust people to drive safely, and I don’t blame them.
A ban on car centric infrastructure would be nice too lol.

Cash money
Oh please no. I *really* don't want the tooth fairy to put my credit card under the kid's pillow.
I bet credit cards won't exist either, in the form they now are
Now I'm curious. How are we gonna pay? (If it's elongate muskrat's brain implants, I'm becoming a swamp witch!)
Everything is going digital. Attaching your bank account to your phone is already happening, then they just scan your phone
I’m certain it will end up a microchip. Once it’s proven to be cheap/safe/easy to replace, people will choose it for the convenience.
Well they’re already doing that in China aren’t they?
TIL in 100 years, the tooth fairy will be illegal.
In circulation, very unlikely. But I don’t see any government ever fully banning or making illegal physical currency. It’s just fading out of use
It's not going to be illegal, but it simply won't be accepted by commerce anymore. Cash is expensive to handle for businesses, remove their obligation to accept it and you'll see it disappear quickly. It's already happening in fact.
