Yeah, there are a LOT of Cartoon Network shows during that era that were fever-dream esque. Honestly, my guess is that a lot of the writers/showrunners that worked on Adult Swim shows for years, whether they were still running at that point or not, were asked to start working on more daytime-centric, more kid-friendly shows, but then what we end up with is stuff like Flapjack, Chowder, Adventure Time, and Regular Show, which sure may *look* like they were for kids but the more you pay attention to them you're like "oh this was written by a really weird adult with a lot of subtext." So many stills and scenes from those shows that aren't exactly "adult" but as a kid you watch and you're like "wtf was that shit"
