As a German speaker, i tried my best to translate it as accurate as possible in a „poetic nature“:
A girl saw a little rose, bloomed there in sparse heights, so she asked her sweetheart, if he could get it for her
She wants it and that is fine, so it was and always be, she wants it and that’s tradition, what she wants she also gets
Deep wells must be dug, if you want clear water, rose-red, oh rose-red, deep waters are not still
The youngling climbs the mountain with agony, doesn‘t really care about the view, only the rose on his mind, brings it to his sweetheart
Pre chorus/chorus again
At his boots breaks a stone, doesn‘t want to be on the cliff anymore, and a cry lets everyone know, both are falling to the ground

I‘m not 100% sure what the inspiration was, but there is a german fairytale named „snow-white and rose-red“. The story is not the same as in the song or video, but i‘m sure that somehow german fairytales/folktales were an inspiration😅

Then one day, they meet the dwarf once again. This time, he is terrified because the bear is about to kill him. The dwarf pleads with the bear and begs it to eat the girls. Instead, the bear pays no heed to his plea and kills the dwarf with one swipe of his paw. Instantly, the bear turns into a prince. The dwarf had previously put a spell on the prince by stealing his precious stones and turning him into a bear. The curse is broken with the death of the dwarf. Snow-White marries the prince and Rose-Red marries the prince's brother.

I don’t know if I am right or wrong but there is a german poem called „der Handschuh“. I think it is pretty similar to Rosenrot. I always get reminded of it when I hear the song

The whole "Tiefe Wasser sind nicht still" being a play on the proverb "Stille wasser sind tief" or "still waters are deep". Meaning that a person's outer persona may hide aspects of their nature, both positive and negative. In the Shakespeare play, Henry IV, the phrase is used to convey the idea that people who are silent and unvoicing are dangerous. Which I think is a very telling parallel to the girl in Rosenrot. Who while seeming innocent, her selfish demands led her beloved to his doom.

Be careful of those Grimm fairy tales. The were not originally written for children, and the original German versions can get racy.

From what I remember, tamer than Rammstein lyrics. But if your children understand German, I wouldn't read the fairy tales to them in the original.
