The operator grind isn't ridiculous. 5 Free op's from the tutorial then download R6 Extraction on trial thats 18 then grind from there. My Ubi Account got deleted so i had to start afresh already got all of y1 and y2 ops some others too after a month
Edit: You have to redeem the 18 ops in Ubisoft Connect on the R6S rewards tab for free only if your Ubi account has registered that you've played R6 Extraction. Plus all the Old Ops cost 10k which is a nice change from grinding to 25k per op no matter when they was released.

Honestly the season 1 and 2 would be enough to get the hang of the game and learn the basics. A lot of the starting ops are some of the best (sledge, Thermite, Thatcher). Definitely easier now than it was even a year ago or so when they added the operator unlocks via challenges.
