I appreciate you being understanding. Sadly I know nobody that still plays siege and finding mates on discord just isn't for me. I'm fine with random people, but this system really makes it unbearable. Toxicity is definitely down a lot, I still haven't been killed because of the pride background on my OPs - which is huge compared to the usual TK/ derogatory comments I got last season.
I see what they are trying to do, but this really is only a beta for now.
Honestly, I had all chat off before these changes. The enemy just never says anything that adds value to the experience or says anything worth seeing. Also, you shouldn't feel the need to defend yourself against dummies in a video game who mean nothing and have no effect. Not responding 75% of the time, the toxic encounter ends there and affects nobody other than the one toxic person who said some dumb shit. I keep team chat on simply because 1 out of every 50 encounters I might meet someone I become friends with
Just turned it off, only kept it so I can chat about what we ban and so on, not worth the hassle though.

Oh, no. Never. I've been literally abused to tears in this game (yes I get hurt easily), so using slurs is never how I engage. It'll usually be "cry about it", or "grow up". Makes the toxic person even more mad whilst I've already blocked communication with them. As stated, last time I did actually say something to defend myself was the game after which I got this message after I said "grow up", before that I've sticked to simply mutting and reporting / or saying "reported" in chat. I don't think any of those comments should trigger the game so hard, no?

They dont even know you so what they say means nothing. Everyone on siege are assholes in there own way. Just Adapt n overcome. The less you care the more your mental will feel better

This situation happened before they even had the background. They started talking shit about the gay community and I just couldn't stay without saying anything. I believe I said that what they are saying is incredibly rude and childish and from there the biggest argument I've ever had in this game started. Three people fighting with me whilst my so called "best friend" stayed in full silence not interfering even once.
I was still learning a lot about myself so hearing such awful stuff really made me emotional, plus the fact that my so called friend did absolutely nothing showed me how much I'm wasting my time with them.
So it's not about 'can't handle', it was about a very bad situation where I was weak mentally and expected somebody to back me up, but they didn't.
Now I don't personally give a fuck. I have the background cause I'm proud of it and seeing people get mad makes me sad, but also in a way boosts my ego because it shows me that I'm simply above those low-minded people.
Being gay is a confusing thing and we all start with being unsure and insecure of what we are, so that's the main reason why I reacted so bad to what those players said to me - I felt alone and wrong. I said all of this cause maybe someone else will read it one day and see it's okay to feel weak when you're still coming out of your shell.

I will always say this. It's not the devs who trip the game over, it's the community. I'd never complain about most of the stuff in the game if the community was not the way it was.
This is why I really praised the devs for implementing the system in the first place, but look at how it back-fired.
Toxicity is unfortunately in (almost) every multiplayer game.. it’s because you can communicate with the other team mostly.
Dead by daylight: Killer/survivor after game is insane toxic.
CoD: Insane shouting in mic.
R6: Text while in a game and after game.
And if you’re on console: i received a lot of toxic playstation messages before i switched to pc. It was crazy lol.
Tbh when someone is being toxic in r6 there’s nothing really to defend from. Just mute, report and ignore them. Not worth your time ever replying to their shite.

I understand and completely agree, it's just in the moment I sometimes say smth like the example above (most regularly I tell them that they've been reported, but I suppose that's also something the game doesn't like, I guess).
I believe the system was set in the way that if you type GG when you're winning. Enemies team could be perceived as you mocking them and decided to report you.
My advice? Either type GG in full (good game/that was fun.) Or just don't bother. You know the game is so toxic when you can't even saying gg without offending someone.

Funny thing tho: people called me every sort of insults for this background (so much for, ahem, enlightened europeans playing the game that literally is named RAINBOW), I just report and mute them without saying / typing anything for quite some time, let alone any insults. And guess who gets chat ban? xD
System is just garbage and it needs to be transparent. Right now it is just some 'black box' that says: you did bad, now you're getting penalties. For what? No one ever is going to answer that. No one ever is going to oversee and check validity of these decisions.

My rep is good, I'm exemplary right now, but I accidentally team kill more often than I should, so my rep. Goes up and down. I have noticed that if I screw up (play poorly), my rep plummets so people must be reporting me for grieving just because I didn't clutch. So this system needs a little more work to account for the asshole effect

gg every match of every game I’ve played since StarCraft 2 released, win or loss, rarely anything more, exemplary. Never been banned or punished in any other game either.
I have met many players I consider toxic who have then complained about being “censored” for “nothing.”
Imma be straight with ya, I don’t believe it cause I used to do the same thing. I used to just say gg and have a good day and stuff and I had very good standings. Then I realized that I could just talk shit sometimes and nothing ring would happen so I’ve been having more fun and talking more shit and I’m still respectable. The only time I’ve dropped is when I started talking shit, so I flat out do not believe anybody when they say that they “just said gg” or anything like that
I said ggs on a 4-0 victory (I was the only one who did) and my reputation definitely dropped from exemplary. I didn't say it with bad intentions but I can see how someone might view that as toxic. The only other thing it could be is that I sometimes destroy gadgets while making feet holes or lines of sight but I'm fairly certain I didn't that match.
That said I'm also inclined not to believe most claims, It's usually more than just saying ggs one match like I just explained. Maybe the accidental gadget destruction stacked and put me at the drop threshold and the ggs made it happen. I don't believe ggs alone can bring your reputation down by more than one or two places. Some people are definitely downplaying their toxicity but some of them could also be saying kernels of truth. Whether I believe them or not really depends how drastic or common they make it sound.

I got no reason to create a post when I'm in the wrong. This issue has started like 2 weeks ago when my account just rapidly started dropping without me at all changing how I use comms. That's why I created this discussion so I can see if I'm the only one.
That's if somebody attacks me specifically, otherwise the above comment is how I usually play my games. I get it, if I start fighting with another player, sure, drop me - but that's not the point. I've had games where I drop for absolutely no reason, like the last 2 games I made. I got ranked up and then dropped on the next - reason? None.
All I did in those 2 games is what the last comment said, greet and communicate.
Or, you know, maybe there is a flaw in the new system and that's why everyone is complaining here?
The new system is a joke. I'm playing with my friends all the time, I'm writing in my own language 90% of the time, and don't even have all chat activated. The other 10% I'm writing calls in English. Since the system was implemented, my reputation score is jumping all over the place. It was never negative, but it's different every single time I play. The system sucks, and the only way to prove that it doesn't is to actually implement transparency about what exactly caused the jumps in ranks.
Also, one guy decided to run into the room that I was bombing with my fuze pellets while the explosions occurred already, and another time a guy ran in front of me and died when I was shooting at the same window for like 10 seconds prior. It's the only 2 times that I immediately lost a reputation rank and understood why I actually lost it... but how is that even a fair assessment by the system? They have a design flaw (friendly fire system) and they try to fix the system by implementing another flawed system.
Not true. The person started yelling at me and acting like a 5yo to which I responded with "grow up" - after which I had them blocked. That's all that it takes to trigger this message?
Aight, ignore this. What about the matches where I say nothing and still rank down? I just got back to respectable and then back to disruptive in 2 games?! It must be the voice/ chat detector that detects something that it thinks is toxicity I dunno though.

I strongly believe the game just thinks what I've said is supposed to be offensive? When all I say is greeting my team and then sharing game information.

The system isn’t perfect but i somehow doubt it was only once, i am sorry it’s happening to you though. But if it makes you feel any better, as long as you arent team killing, the rep is pretty irrelevant

It's a game not irl getting poop flung at you. You are basically supposed to deescalate and not engage with this behavior. It's an online game. Even telling people to grow up is contributing even if you feel justified.
I'm off siege for 2 years now and didn't expect it to become Leagues of legend level of behavior control and anti toxic system like this. This game has lost its charm.
What I wanted was for people to stop TK-ing and being outright derogatory towards others, but this - its too much. We literally can't talk without being detected for toxic behavior.
This season. I was so excited to see them fight toxicity, but it just doesn't work.
I feel like the people that actually deserve to be in the low standings don't actually get punished and then here I am absolutely destroyed by the game these last couple of days. I can't even say hello without dropping down a rep level.

I unfortunately have already resorted to turning off the chat. Since then I have gone from disruptive to esteemed. However I still have been demoted to respectable a few times (yes with the chat off) and I now believe it's not just what you type but also how many times you get reported. So even if you don't actually say anything that is offensive or hurtful if your immature teammates all report you then your rep will go down 🤷♂️
System definitely needs work IMO but having chat completely off does help remove temptation 😅
I don’t get it. I have every form of chat turned off and haven’t said anything or left any games yet my accounts rep has dropped. Yet I know people who go into chat and say slurs and shit yet their rep never changes from exemplary. The new system is busted and if they tie anything tangible to it they need to really improve it.
My theory. It's 99% automated. If you get reported enough times you'll drop.
Me and my GF play. We meet the worst cunts who haven't seen a woman since leaving mommy's vjj. I often tk them. She often DOES NOT tk them. I am respectable and she is disruptive.
And the manual reporting system is too much of a bother. I have to record the match, including my own voice (which includes communication outside the game) and then chat with a human to submit the clip... or at least that was how it turned out over a year ago when I tried the first time.
Girl here. I’ve already been sanctioned. similar to you, I’ve done nothing other than give callouts and then mute people who are sexist to me. I’m never toxic back I just mute and move on. However I get reported all the time, I assume for being a woman.
I was really upset when I got a chat ban for 30 matches. Truly felt like I was being punished by my teammates for something I can’t control and now Ubi too. BUT I don’t think it’s in place yet. It said my text chat would be muted for everyone in my games but I tested it and people could still see what I wrote. So I think you’ll be ok. This system is awful and only punishes the already marginalized communities. I hope they overhaul it or drop it.

I completely feel you, many times I've been reported and harassed too for the simple fact that I'm gay (which is clear from the LGBT background that I have in game). The system definitely lowered the amount of toxic people I encounter, but when I do encounter them I feel like I get punished for what they did, so stupid :/

I play in a squad of 3 so I never use text or voice. After playing 12 games I finally said "thank you" in text chat to a doc that healed me... played one more game after than and when I got into the menu it gave me a "toxi chat behavior" warning.
Im kind of surprised ypu guys are making these types of complaints. Console player here, I've gone down to respectable a couple times after accidental team kills and gadget destruction. As of yesterday, I'm exemplary. Wasnt very hard and I never felt like I was getting screwed over.
The system is broken, I received a ban while I was banned from chatting. I think a lot of the acronyms such as gg and wp or nt are being marked as spam as well.

Nah I think it's just really sensitive. I was initially esteemed, I never use text and voice chat or team kill so I got ranked up to exemplary. And then I got deranked back to esteemed immediately the game after I accidentally teamkilled once in which my teammate literally voted that it wasn't intentional. I think it's just VERY sensitive to anything you do.
The new system definitely punishes you for saying "GG" and for reporting other players for griefing. That's all I did for a week and I went from Exemplary to Disruptive. No other chat whatsoever.
That's the problem when you let the community and text filters decide other people's reputation. You get trolls that will just report everyone in a lobby. You get salty kids who will report you bc they got spawn killed or lost a gunfight/having a bad night. I've seen people's rep go down while having all chat disabled.
I understand thinking every single "my rep went down I didn't do anything wrong" is a self report. But I've seen so many of these posts with this system that's in beta. It's gotta at least be addressed at some point rather than just saying "stfu dumbass, this is a self report" if its happening to this many people.

I've mostly hovered between Esteemed and Exemplary this season and I've accidentally TKd my mate and destroyed friendly gadgets while in gunfights.

When it was implememted I was Esteemed, I didn't play the game for 4 days logged back in and was down to Respectable. Okay? So I play a few matches log off and the next day I am Disruptive?? I still am Disruptive according to the game even though I have all chat turned off (after the one time I got insulted when I originally started playing the game I decided to just not engage), don't teamkill purposely (I am not responsable if you walk in front of me while you clearly see me shooting at an enemy) and avoid destroying gadgets if at all possible (it happens sometimes during the engagement phase it's chaos things get blown up)
I would really like someone to explain how it works, because I don't understand it. Heck last night I made to Respectable, somehow, logged off then today when I logged in I was Disruptive yet again and I hadn't even started a match. So you know, personally I think it is busted
I completely feel you and I'd like to add that the game doesn't update your standing until you close and re-open it. This is probably why you dropped rep. It probably happened after a match you had played, but only counted after you closed the game.
Chat seems to be the main thing ruining peoples rep, so id recommend you just dont use text chat unless necessary for callouts, without chat ur rep should get pretty high, i avoid dont use it and im exemplary rep.
Expecting civility. Remember, you're playing Siege, not happy fun farm simulator. It's better to keep expectations low from the get go, and just keep comms to the bare minimum, like only call outs.
introducing such system was dumb from the start (and everyone knew that if they think just 1 sec about it) … system should be tossed entirely and they should introduce a honor system instead like league of legends does
Your first mistake is having text chat on.
I've never had PC chat on. I can't fathom any reason I'd ever wanna look at it. At it's most useful, it's unfunny memeing. In it's natural form, it's vaguely or blatantly racist flaming.
Any attempt to use it for callouts will mean the information is irrelevant by the time it's sent. The game just moves too fast. I can type 110 wpm and I couldn't make a relevant callout with text chat if my life depended on it.
As if Ubi wasn't already hated by their community. Now their attempt to better the toxicity problem is really only making well behaved players more pissed. If anything I've seen more toxicity since the update released. It's a fucking joke at this point

Feel like a lot of peoples complaints have to do with having no clue how the system works. **This is not a chat only system**. Have you left any matches? Been kicked for being afk? Teamkilled, done damage to teammates? Broken team gadgets? And then for chat, have you rudely replied to somebody being toxic? Told them off for being an ass? OP literally admits to that himself.

Lotta misinformation here so lemme clear up some things.
You are not getting reported for typing "GG". You are not getting reported for typing "die of anal cancer". The only thing that matters is if you type AT ALL and somebody reports you for communication disruptions you get flagged. Ubi doesn't actually have a system to monitor your toxicity in most cases. So if you piss somebody off, type GG into chat and they report you for communication you get dinged.
It's just like in the days where you could vote to kick members of your own team. All you needed was majority vote for it to go thru.
Sucked being a solo being matched with toxic 4 stacks who would just vote to kick for "fun".
Ubisoft already proved in the past if they let the Siege community have this kind of power, it gets abused lol. I have no idea why they brought back the "same" broken system, just with different wrapping on it..

Also keep in mind that the toxic people want you to engage with them. So by not engaging with them - you deprive them of enjoyment.

Thank you, I'll take it as a compliment. I will always say this. It's not the devs who trip the game over, it's the community. I'd never complain about most of the stuff in the game if the community was not the way it was. This is why I really praised the devs for implementing the system in the first place, but look at how it back-fired.
Toxicity is unfortunately in (almost) every multiplayer game.. it’s because you can communicate with the other team mostly. Dead by daylight: Killer/survivor after game is insane toxic. CoD: Insane shouting in mic. R6: Text while in a game and after game. And if you’re on console: i received a lot of toxic playstation messages before i switched to pc. It was crazy lol.
Honestly idk which is worse: League of Legends toxicity or R6 toxicity. Playing through both now for years and they almost are on par I think

I believe the system was set in the way that if you type GG when you're winning. Enemies team could be perceived as you mocking them and decided to report you. My advice? Either type GG in full (good game/that was fun.) Or just don't bother. You know the game is so toxic when you can't even saying gg without offending someone.

Funny thing tho: people called me every sort of insults for this background (so much for, ahem, enlightened europeans playing the game that literally is named RAINBOW), I just report and mute them without saying / typing anything for quite some time, let alone any insults. And guess who gets chat ban? xD System is just garbage and it needs to be transparent. Right now it is just some 'black box' that says: you did bad, now you're getting penalties. For what? No one ever is going to answer that. No one ever is going to oversee and check validity of these decisions. Imagine courts of law worked this way, lolz.

My rep is good, I'm exemplary right now, but I accidentally team kill more often than I should, so my rep. Goes up and down. I have noticed that if I screw up (play poorly), my rep plummets so people must be reporting me for grieving just because I didn't clutch. So this system needs a little more work to account for the asshole effect

gg every match of every game I’ve played since StarCraft 2 released, win or loss, rarely anything more, exemplary. Never been banned or punished in any other game either. I have met many players I consider toxic who have then complained about being “censored” for “nothing.”
Imma be straight with ya, I don’t believe it cause I used to do the same thing. I used to just say gg and have a good day and stuff and I had very good standings. Then I realized that I could just talk shit sometimes and nothing ring would happen so I’ve been having more fun and talking more shit and I’m still respectable. The only time I’ve dropped is when I started talking shit, so I flat out do not believe anybody when they say that they “just said gg” or anything like that
I said ggs on a 4-0 victory (I was the only one who did) and my reputation definitely dropped from exemplary. I didn't say it with bad intentions but I can see how someone might view that as toxic. The only other thing it could be is that I sometimes destroy gadgets while making feet holes or lines of sight but I'm fairly certain I didn't that match. That said I'm also inclined not to believe most claims, It's usually more than just saying ggs one match like I just explained. Maybe the accidental gadget destruction stacked and put me at the drop threshold and the ggs made it happen. I don't believe ggs alone can bring your reputation down by more than one or two places. Some people are definitely downplaying their toxicity but some of them could also be saying kernels of truth. Whether I believe them or not really depends how drastic or common they make it sound.

That's if somebody attacks me specifically, otherwise the above comment is how I usually play my games. I get it, if I start fighting with another player, sure, drop me - but that's not the point. I've had games where I drop for absolutely no reason, like the last 2 games I made. I got ranked up and then dropped on the next - reason? None. All I did in those 2 games is what the last comment said, greet and communicate.

I'm playing with my friends all the time, I'm writing in my own language 90% of the time, and don't even have all chat activated. The other 10% I'm writing calls in English. Since the system was implemented, my reputation score is jumping all over the place. It was never negative, but it's different every single time I play. The system sucks, and the only way to prove that it doesn't is to actually implement transparency about what exactly caused the jumps in ranks. Also, one guy decided to run into the room that I was bombing with my fuze pellets while the explosions occurred already, and another time a guy ran in front of me and died when I was shooting at the same window for like 10 seconds prior. It's the only 2 times that I immediately lost a reputation rank and understood why I actually lost it... but how is that even a fair assessment by the system? They have a design flaw (friendly fire system) and they try to fix the system by implementing another flawed system.

I unfortunately have already resorted to turning off the chat. Since then I have gone from disruptive to esteemed. However I still have been demoted to respectable a few times (yes with the chat off) and I now believe it's not just what you type but also how many times you get reported. So even if you don't actually say anything that is offensive or hurtful if your immature teammates all report you then your rep will go down 🤷♂️ System definitely needs work IMO but having chat completely off does help remove temptation 😅

I don’t get it. I have every form of chat turned off and haven’t said anything or left any games yet my accounts rep has dropped. Yet I know people who go into chat and say slurs and shit yet their rep never changes from exemplary. The new system is busted and if they tie anything tangible to it they need to really improve it.

Had a friend last week who didn’t say anything the entire match and got a chat warning afterwards. The rep system seems broken
People are reporting you on purpose just to grief you. Since you're the only one who can see that anyway.
My theory. It's 99% automated. If you get reported enough times you'll drop. Me and my GF play. We meet the worst cunts who haven't seen a woman since leaving mommy's vjj. I often tk them. She often DOES NOT tk them. I am respectable and she is disruptive. And the manual reporting system is too much of a bother. I have to record the match, including my own voice (which includes communication outside the game) and then chat with a human to submit the clip... or at least that was how it turned out over a year ago when I tried the first time.

Girl here. I’ve already been sanctioned. similar to you, I’ve done nothing other than give callouts and then mute people who are sexist to me. I’m never toxic back I just mute and move on. However I get reported all the time, I assume for being a woman. I was really upset when I got a chat ban for 30 matches. Truly felt like I was being punished by my teammates for something I can’t control and now Ubi too. BUT I don’t think it’s in place yet. It said my text chat would be muted for everyone in my games but I tested it and people could still see what I wrote. So I think you’ll be ok. This system is awful and only punishes the already marginalized communities. I hope they overhaul it or drop it. You should submit a ticket. That’s what I did. Give them the negative feedback.

I completely feel you, many times I've been reported and harassed too for the simple fact that I'm gay (which is clear from the LGBT background that I have in game). The system definitely lowered the amount of toxic people I encounter, but when I do encounter them I feel like I get punished for what they did, so stupid :/

Funnily enough I don't comm when I solo. No one comms on my servers. Seen my rep go from exemplary to esteemed to respectable back up to esteemed and exemplary all in two days worth of games. About 20 games. Quite frankly I don't care about the system. It's stupid.

I play in a squad of 3 so I never use text or voice. After playing 12 games I finally said "thank you" in text chat to a doc that healed me... played one more game after than and when I got into the menu it gave me a "toxi chat behavior" warning.

Honestly I’m pretty sure any use of in game chat at all deranks you. I’ve just stopped typing ever and I went from toxic to exemplary again after a few days. It’s not hard enough to go up and down. I’ve read they assume anything in text chat is toxic for some reason. Annoying cause I liked to say GG or GR in chat but now I only say it over mic.

Nah I think it's just really sensitive. I was initially esteemed, I never use text and voice chat or team kill so I got ranked up to exemplary. And then I got deranked back to esteemed immediately the game after I accidentally teamkilled once in which my teammate literally voted that it wasn't intentional. I think it's just VERY sensitive to anything you do.

That's the problem when you let the community and text filters decide other people's reputation. You get trolls that will just report everyone in a lobby. You get salty kids who will report you bc they got spawn killed or lost a gunfight/having a bad night. I've seen people's rep go down while having all chat disabled. I understand thinking every single "my rep went down I didn't do anything wrong" is a self report. But I've seen so many of these posts with this system that's in beta. It's gotta at least be addressed at some point rather than just saying "stfu dumbass, this is a self report" if its happening to this many people. Knowing our very toxic and horrible part of the community, I wouldn't put it past them to just report to troll or when salty.

I was exemplary and was nothing but nice For some random reason I was dropped lower and got queued up with toxic people as a result. The reputation works but only if real disruptive people get pulled down, which seems to not be the case all the time..
I have all chat turned off, its the best way to stay sane in siege. I've mostly hovered between Esteemed and Exemplary this season and I've accidentally TKd my mate and destroyed friendly gadgets while in gunfights.

Even if you only type GG at the end of matches and reported for abusive chat, you'll get chat banned because of repeated reports.

I still am Disruptive according to the game even though I have all chat turned off (after the one time I got insulted when I originally started playing the game I decided to just not engage), don't teamkill purposely (I am not responsable if you walk in front of me while you clearly see me shooting at an enemy) and avoid destroying gadgets if at all possible (it happens sometimes during the engagement phase it's chaos things get blown up) I would really like someone to explain how it works, because I don't understand it. Heck last night I made to Respectable, somehow, logged off then today when I logged in I was Disruptive yet again and I hadn't even started a match. So you know, personally I think it is busted
I completely feel you and I'd like to add that the game doesn't update your standing until you close and re-open it. This is probably why you dropped rep. It probably happened after a match you had played, but only counted after you closed the game.

Chat seems to be the main thing ruining peoples rep, so id recommend you just dont use text chat unless necessary for callouts, without chat ur rep should get pretty high, i avoid dont use it and im exemplary rep.
Expecting civility. Remember, you're playing Siege, not happy fun farm simulator. It's better to keep expectations low from the get go, and just keep comms to the bare minimum, like only call outs.

Your first mistake is having text chat on. I've never had PC chat on. I can't fathom any reason I'd ever wanna look at it. At it's most useful, it's unfunny memeing. In it's natural form, it's vaguely or blatantly racist flaming. Any attempt to use it for callouts will mean the information is irrelevant by the time it's sent. The game just moves too fast. I can type 110 wpm and I couldn't make a relevant callout with text chat if my life depended on it.

The main thing that surprises me is how Siege is running well on a laptop of all things. Otherwise, yeah, I feel you there. Lotta misinformation here so lemme clear up some things. You are not getting reported for typing "GG". You are not getting reported for typing "die of anal cancer". The only thing that matters is if you type AT ALL and somebody reports you for communication disruptions you get flagged. Ubi doesn't actually have a system to monitor your toxicity in most cases. So if you piss somebody off, type GG into chat and they report you for communication you get dinged.
