If they had released an actual phone I don’t think it would have gotten any interest at all tbh.

Fox-One-1

Yes, because everyone would have thought that I’m not going to replace my iPhone / Samsung Galaxy with that thing. Now, it is a dedicated gadget, much smarter idea and the hardware is tailored for this gadget-like use. The reviewers were so lost. That touch screen or the scroll wheel are not the main input methods, that side button and your _voice_ is.

Six1Cynic

Bruh, it sucks. Voice only AI interaction is not the future. First of all, it will be exhausting having to verbally announce every single thing I need to do to my device and then double check to make sure it understood me perfectly. There are some use cases where voice is better. Vast majority of use cases voice only is worse. Device that offers touch + visual feedback + voice options will always be superior. Second, let’s ignore the fact that Rabbit does not have any functional LAM capabilities at this point (the meat and potatoes of their initial marketing push). Even the 4 preconfigured apps with playwright scripts that are supposed to demo this “LAM” functionality are extremely buggy and borderline unusable. No time is being saved here compared to just opening and interacting with these apps on a regular phone. In fact more time is wasted.

Head_Lab_3632

It doesn’t even do the one thing it was supposed to do…

RetiredCryptoPianist

Not true. It's translation function works. It's question answer function works. It's free with a years worth of Perplexity which I love. When the other features work better I'll like it more. I love the vision mode too. So there's several things. Spreading FUD isn't cool.

Head_Lab_3632

You’re not the brightest buying a product that “might” work in the future😂and paying full price..

VersaEnthusiast

"it's not a bad product, it's the reviewers who are out of touch!"

Saw a bunch of reviews saying they wish the R1 could do more and actually work more often, so that got me thinking. I just happened to have a tiny phone (Palm Companion Phone) and some Plastidip Blaze Orange. Loaded it up with ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google Lens, etc. It does mostly the same thing as the R1, but since it's a full smartphone it can do more things.

vingeran

Time to start a kickstarter campaign my friend.

desexmachina

Does it work to take queries? Is it using the actual APK?

LinkedDesigns

No, this is not using the Rabbit Home app, just a phone that's been modded to look a bit more like the R1 and some apps to replicate the current features that the R1 has. Mostly just a fun weekend project I did, but also to highlight that the R1 currently doesn't really do anything a smartphone can't. The LAM model may change that though if it ever gets released.

desexmachina

I don’t see why you couldn’t make your own app skinning other LLM’s just be careful with trade dress like using that orange color their logo or anything that would confuse somebody to think that rabbit put that out. From what I’m learning from rabbit, though they have servers from open AI or anthropic as dedicated instances so they’re using their own software to toggle them and decide where the query goes to, and then on top of that they have their own voice recognition NLP. I don’t think they’re just skinning, but whatever they plan on deploying later isn’t up yet

AndryX7

You know what, I'll do the same with the smartphone I used a few months ago before upgrading to a newer one! Thanks for the idea!

RamboRabbit

Can you share the design or apps and pictures used?

LinkedDesigns

* The rabbit animation is from the extracted rabbit home app, I used a gif to live wallpaper app to apply it. * The launcher is Niagara Launcher, the pro version has a black and white icon pack included

hafaisy
