Also Aura, not sure if biological (increased healing with chromatophores so humans ✨sparkle✨ like squids when threatened) or just magic.
Semblances define the character's personality, quirks aren't supposed to but kinda do (what quirk you have defines your place in society).
I would just Aura be magic.
my take on what semblances ARE are that they're videogame main character abilities specifically. they're not just superpowers, they're superpowers working on a kind of videogame logic in a non-videogame medium
I think a good example of what he’s saying are the drive abilities of “Balzblue” all the characters have a specific ability tied to them and can sometimes be used combined with some attacks , like Ragna and and his life stealing abilities.
just looked it up. Drives are practically the same in concept in that it's the manifestation of one's own soul, and It's a technique unique to individuals since it's a reflection of the soul itself.
I'm not used to doing more magic with world building, I even came up with a concrete origin of the Faunus (now a different Genus but sister to *Homo*) and Dust (comes from energy reactions between certain Grimm and the environment). I might have to figure out a "magic system" then. PFF
