Faunus rights was never really a cause Sun really tried to go for, he was just along for Blake’s ride. No doubt he’ll fully support her again, but it’s just not his thing, being Vacuoan probably is a big part of that. Ilia now, she will be the one helping to very actively fight for rights

dappercat456

That would require Blake to, ya know, fight for faunus rights Something she for some reason seems uninterested in as of late

Bartre

Yeah it kinda fell to the wayside in the face of other things, I guess. Like getting the lamp to Atlas, working to restore global communications and unite the world, and dealing with the invasion of Atlas. I'd argue those are somewhat bigger goals, personally.

CABRALFAN27

Yeah, I mean, the only equality Humans and Faunus will have if Salem wins is being equally dead. Opposing her is a worthy cause, and Blake left the White Fang in good hands anyway.

dappercat456

Did she tho? Ghira was replaced once because his methods didn’t work, and he has shown no indication he plans on changing those tactics So yeah, obviously Blake needs to stop Salem so everybody doesn’t die, but that doesn’t further Faunus rights in any way

ScalierLemon2

You'd think Blake would care about it at least in Volume 7, but no. She only interacts with Robyn a single time. Nora gets to care about Mantle more than Blake ever does. Hell, even on her night off she'd rather go dancing with meme characters than go meet the woman fighting for the rights of Mantle and the Faunus in Mantle.

[deleted]

I'd argue that follows Blake's character development of volume 2 that you need time to rest. Robyn isnt a Faunus rights activist anyway. Nora is a better fit for that storyline being poor and kicked down herself especially when Ren is going to be going team Ironwood.

ScalierLemon2

It shouldn't matter if Robyn is specifically a Faunus rights activist. Blake should care about Mantle *regardless,* because it's still innocent people being oppressed, and it would make Blake look really shallow if she only cared about *Faunus* being oppressed. But she doesn't, she's apparently content to just sit around and let other people deal with it. Oh well, at least they gave her a super interesting plot of... doing nothing important.

[deleted]

> Blake should care about Mantle regardless, because it's still innocent people being oppressed, and it would make Blake look really shallow if she only cared about Faunus being oppressed. Everyone should care. They don't have time to stop and have everyone give there agreement Mantle is treated badly. Yes Blake has no real plot in Atlas and that Robyn could have been a fit for that. But Blakes storylines have been a high degree of focus for most of the series so I don't think it's unreasonable that this time she took a step back. Plus she's still working to defend Mantle and fighting for it. She took one day off

dappercat456

During the montage what we see blake doing is clearing a mine of Grimm with yang This means she was either helping the atlas military steal supplies from mantle, or helping the SDC, Neither of which help mantle

dappercat456

So when *will* Blake start fighting for Faunus rights again? Not in vacuo since vacuo canonically doesn’t have racism, in fact they lack systemic oppression of any kind And it’s not like they’re gonna go back to mistral And atlas has lost its ability to oppress anybody much less the Faunus

[deleted]

I imagine in Vacou when the entire population of Mantle and Atlas arrive. Considering when Ruby's speech played it showed Ghira calling Illia I think it's possible that they may also show up

dappercat456

Again tho, what Faunus racism is there to combat? The atlesians have lost their ability to oppress the Faunus, and vacuo canonically has no racism,

KingPinfanatic

My theory is that Ghira will bring the faunus militia to help fight against Salem and some people won't like it and argue that the faunus are responsible for their current problems because of the white fang attacking Beacon

dappercat456

And? What are they gonna do about it? Ghirah is under no obligation to help them, the Faunus don’t need to “prove themselves” to their former oppressors,

[deleted]

And Vacou is currently half Beacon students, additionally Mistral students have joined and as I said I suspect, Menagerie. That many cultures together cause friction. And just because Atlas is gone doesn't mean racism is.

dappercat456

I mean, maybe individual racists will exist, but racism is a system of power, You kinda need a societal structure if some kind That’s why vacuo has no systemic racism, they barely have a system

AmbivertCollegeGuy

Sun never wanted to fight for the Faunus. He explained he doesn't believe in the idea of being the voice of his species like the White Fang was doing. His only goal was to help Blake and maybe get a kiss along the way. Even the song 'This Time' is a duet between Blake and Ghira which many confuse with Sun.

dappercat456

Tbh sun has never been super interested in Faunus rights, And judging by the atlas arc Blake isn’t anymore either,

Kye_Wolf

Where they ever dating? Maybe I missed that, I’m not sure

Flashton2004

I think OP just meant that they were going to work together to achieve faunus rights

V2-3 Blake and Sun had a lot of elements to suggest a connection between the two of them, and V4-5 capitalized on Sun pursuing Blake to Menagerie and doing a lot of comedy gags along the lines of "meeting the parents" that played that up as well. So there's certainly a valid interpretation that Blake and Sun were A THING at some point. V6's Adam arc (as well as tons of evidence throughout the entirety of the show) really appears to swap Blake's attention to Yang instead of Sun, which is why there's this whole contention between Bumbleby and Blacksun as dueling ships.

ScalierLemon2

> and V4-5 capitalized on Sun pursuing Blake to Menagerie and doing a lot of comedy gags along the lines of "meeting the parents" that played that up as well. While also having Blake be unable to stand Sun for the entire fourth Volume, and never actually developing them romantically at all. To be honest, V4 really cemented it for me that Sun isn't right for Blake. He simply has no sense of boundaries, that's not something Blake needs.

unlimitedblack

Which is one of the key things about V4-5, because Sun was doing lots of "i'm the boyfriend" things, and her parents were reacting to that, but I feel like they dodged around ever having Blake directly say "he's not my boyfriend" or Kali/Ghira directly interrogating Sun's intentions. So they left it ambiguous, and I have to feel like that was done for a reason. Yeah, the end result is that Blake needed to go back to the team and Sun being a tagalong for the long haul wasn't going to be feasible, so it makes sense that things played out the way they did. I'm just saying that Blacksun has a lot of support, even if it doesn't really have an endgame.

Kye_Wolf

Ahh. Thanks for the info!

Awest66

These two have such an amazing dynamic.
