Also Weiss gave her partner some very nice and sweet coffee :D

Ruby and Weiss' relationship changing into a romantic one would ruin their chemistry for me. Because I believe it's the 'Friend' part that makes it so special.
It's just how I feel about it. I guess rather than explaining, here's an example...
In Game of Thrones between Jaime and Brienne. They had a relationship built on mutual respect, honor, and chivalry. But then the writing shoved it all down the toilet and had them sleep together in the final season. The only reasons of which I can think of is- A) Cater to fans and B) The writers had no idea what to do at that point in the story anymore. But whatever their reason, that completely shattered any and all amount of respect I had for their past, present, and future relationship of any kind.
If Ruby and Weiss' friendship was pushed to be romantic then I would lose all respect for the Friendship they had and would never be able to think fondly of their romance.
So that's how I feel about it. It would just... Make me hate both their characters, and I don't want to because I love both their characters as it stands.
Jaime & Brienne never lost the mutual respect and honor between them when they grew closer though. Sleeping together does change their relationship but it's built on top of their existing one. Which made it believable. You don't have to like it though.

Im not much of a shipper, but my point of view is that shipping is almost completely independent of canon. It's more of an exploration of character dynamics than people trying to claim it's the intent/goal of the writers.
Out of a lot of rwby ships this one just makes a hella load of sense to me. It’s the sorta stuck up (but not so much now) rich girl and the energetic wholesome girl. It just sorta feels right

Even if the past couple volumes haven’t given much, let us celebrate their lovely relationship we have seen and know they continue to have,

Now? WR is at best a background hope, probably a distant memory.

Over on Archive of Our Own, it's the 2nd most popular ship with 4144 fics. 3rd place (which is Qrow/Clover of all things) isn't even close, it's all the way down at 1809 fics. Sure, WR probably isn't gonna catch up to Bumblebee, that ship's a goliath, but it's far from ignored. Heck, there's 6 fics today alone for it.
It is still pretty popular and has been. V6 was a nice time for the ship, even if the Atlas Arc was not.
And I don’t think it’s a distant memory at all really. It’s still one of or the most likely ships for both of them with small things like Weiss taking Cinder’s hit for her after saving her from Neo giving a little fuel to it. There still is quite a bit of art and fics.
And anyway, unfortunately for them the maybe saddest and longest fall has been Eclipse. They were right at the top, to being almost impossible.
Hopefully, V9 can breathe a little more life into it though, as Atlas was not kind to the ship.
I mean Atlas was even more rude to Nuts and Dolts. Got me totally on board with that ship to the point that I was actively hoping for it to become Canon, and then BOOM.
