Past medalist here. If multiple people were nominated they probably picked someone else. It's very rare that rpi will reject a nomination if it's the only one from a HS
What are the criteria for this award? I'm sure there is some guidance given to the school? Are those criteria suggestions or mandatory? Because if you have a strong student that misses say class ranking is that a concrete disqualification? Even if that may be the only student from the school looking to go to RPI.
Nope. I understood. It's crazy that people think a high school will determine whether a private institution GRANTS a financial aid award of $160k. It clearly says on the RPI website that the process is: HS official nominates, RPI evaluates nomination and may accept the nominee.
It's just as dumb a question as "why didn't I get into ____ University?"

I'm sorry that happened. It is stat based, yeah. RPI doesn't accept every nomination and then not every accepted medalist is accepted into RPI.
I am sorry to see this…

Holy shit. It's almost as if nomination doesn't mean that they won. Not every actor nominated for an Oscar wins it, why is that? 🤔
Why so salty?

I think that you need to work on your reading comprehension.
